Quiet rural retreat perfect for recharging the batteries. Neil was very welcoming and helpful, and was happy to go the extra mile to ensure all went well with our stay. Had an excellent days fishing and an enjoyable round of golf both within easy reach. Thoroughly recommended.

Neil was there to welcome us and show us around when we arrived. The cottage has two very good sized bedrooms with plenty of storage and coat hangers and a very comfy double bed! The garden has amazing views of the sea and countryside. It’s about a mile into Aberdaron all down hill but all uphill coming back! Would definitely come back to this cottage! Thank you !

  • "A lovely place to stay."

Cottage very clean and comfortable. We stayed in early January 23 and found it a little cool inside. luckily we had taken a load of extra throws and blankets. In a warmer time of year I have no doubt it would have been fantastic, it gave us just what we needed peace and quiet, time to relax and read. The landscape / seascape is beautiful, we were looking for wind and high seas, that is just what we got.

  • "We visited the cottage in August 2022."

What a beautiful cute little cottage. We loved staying here and it is literally a stone throw away to Aberdaron little town and the beach. The owners are so lovely and they take great pride in making you feel very welcome in the cottage. They make sure you have the home from home experience but the holiday feeling. The beds are comfy, there is all you need in the cottage dishwasher, towels, bbq, bedding and even pegs for the washing line outside. The views from the garden are amazing, I sat in the garden most mornings to have breakfast while looking out at the coast… it’s so quiet through the day and night which is prefect when escaping a very busy life and city life… we will certainly be booking to go again next year (if they have availability). We loved it and Aberdaron is so beautiful. Thank you again to the lovely owners for making our stay perfect.

  • "Lovely cottage and a really warm welcome."

The property is no longer on the market and Fiona and Neil have taken over from his parents. A huge effort has been made to make this cottage nice for people to stay in. Two major points Wi-Fi is reliable and the bed is king-size, comfortable with good quality bedding. Note it is quiet and has very thick walls. Great location about a mile from Abadaron centre and beach. Fairly steep so not everyone could walk it but no turn offs just a straight drive. Everything works and everything has been thought of so you don’t need to fill the car and your suitcases with all the silly little things: Washing up liquid towels tea towels kitchen utensils, clingfilm, torch in the bedroom, washing line, pegs, indoor airer, needle and cotton. Even dishwasher tablets, washing machine tablets and bin liners. Bring a scourer yourself if you like to use one but there is a reliable dishwasher. Iron and board. I could go on. Full-size fridge and freezer - American style, microwave toaster kettle cooker with grill. Good quality pans etc. The doors lock securely and the central heating and water are on a modern hive system so they work very well and water is instant any time of day, albeit a minute or 2 to wait for it to come from the boiler to the tap in the kitchen. The cottage is charming and very lovely but please remember it’s an old cottage so if you’re looking for a new build with a sterile plastic air about it this is not it. It is in the countryside and is absolutely charming and has character. The views are stunning and look right out to sea. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Thank you so much for your comments and feedback during your stay. You were wonderful guests and gave us constructive feedback to help us make the cottage even better. Welcome back anytime both of you. You were a pleasure to have! Property Owner

As the property is on the market there doesn't seem much point in saying more. Just to highly recommend to anyone staying on the Lleyn peninsula that they use https://thefarmgatemynytho.co.uk/ - a farm shop that delivers fruit, veg, milk, eggs and bread. They were very helpful.

  • "Negatives: the cottage is a little tired."

It is in need of a freshen up in terms of decoration. There are too many ‘Nicknacks’ which if removed would make cleaning/ dusting more effective. The door in the bathroom to the boiler kept opening and inside the boiler cupboard was a mess. As per the last review we smelt cigarettes emanating from cupboard? I had to put a piece of cardboard in the latch to keep it shut. Lights in kitchen are still not working per last review. Flooring in passageway is loose with foot pinching gaps. Positives DO outweigh the negatives. The sofas and beds very comfortable and the property is warm and well equipped. Plenty of hot water , lovely bath , enclosed garden for the dog with lovely plants and shrubs , a fantastic location with sea views to the rear and a short walk (20 mins) into the village. NB: I was very concerned re last review stating there were rats in the attic. We saw NO evidence of rats in or around this property.

  • "We were looking forward to this break so much but there were several issues with the property consequently, we only stayed two nights."

I have been in contact with the owner to discuss this further and was left feeling that she either did not believe me or she didn't really care. Bathroom: 1. Hot water tap in bathroom very difficult to turn off, continually dripping. 2. Awful smell in bathroom coming from the boiler, smelt like someone smoking in there. Kitchen: 3. Twin lights facing kitchen table did not work. 4. No hot water, had to boil kettle to wash up. I even left the water running for some time in the hope that it would run hot but it did not. 5. Could not open the door leading from the kitchen to the garden. 6. When leaving the property had great difficulty locking the front door. Garden: 7. Previous guests washing left on washing line - a pair of white socks. Cleanliness: 8. Dog treat on floor under dining table in the living room. 9. First floor mezzanine sitting room - all games covered in a thick layer of dust. 10. Cobwebs and not fresh ones, on ceilings and ceiling lights, walls and in corners at floor level. In some of the rooms you could scoop them up in your hand. 11. RATS - in the attic. This was why we cut our holiday short. Good points: 1. Plenty of towels. 2. Very comfortable bed. 3. Cottage was warm. 4. Nice location. 5. Garden good for dogs. Summary: The cottage does have a rustic homely feel to it, however, the cleaner needs to be more thorough.

  • "This lovely cottage is in a superb position, with wonderful views of the sea and coastline from the bedroom windows and the private garden, which is itself a suntrap."

The cottage is bigger than it originally appears, with good sized rooms. The area is beautiful, and the great hosts, Glyn and Beryl, who know the area very well are able to give great ideas for places to visit eg Mynydd Mawr, from which the views are stunning. There is Sky Q which was a lovely surprise, and the WiFi was good. We had amazing weather all week and so were able to dry washing outside. It's worth noting that if it had been wet weather it would have been a challenge to dry thing, which in our situation is an important consideration. It is worth planning to take soap and washing powder/liquid, washing machine tablets and toilet rolls, which we've found are sometimes supplied with self catering rentals, but weren't on this occasion. We are definitely considering booking this property again, and it's the fourth consecutive property we have booked through Sykes Cottages.

The cottage is in a great location, so quiet and peaceful in rural surroundings but only a 20 minute walk into Aberdaron.
