  • "A beautiful property with everything needed for a Christmas family get together."

Decorations and tree were perfect. The only thing that would have enhanced the stay is having an extra set of keys. Sometimes, it's more convenient to come in through the front door and not have to go round the back to the key safe. We would have no hesitation in recommending Dolphin House.

  • "This is a wonderful house, spotlessly clean and comfortable."

Very well equipped kitchen, loved having tea towels, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid there for us. Also tea and coffee and a super welcome pack of goodies! Thank you! Information on website needs to be updated, we arrived at 4pm as per instructions and cleaning staff were expecting us at 5pm. Also the garage is available to use and there is space for two small cars which would have been worth knowing beforehand. Apart from these small issues it was perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. We're delighted you loved the house and found it to be so clean and well equipped. Thank you also for bringing to our attention the issue regarding check-in time which is confirmed as 4pm - our apologies for any misunderstanding. We would love to welcome you again. • "Dolphin house is so well situated as a base for the surrounding area, and is in a lovely town."

The furnishings, bedding, and kitchen equipment etc, are a very high standard, and the cottage was very comfortable. Being on the main high St of Burford, local shops were most convenient, and quite a few excellent pubs with good food.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time away and took full advantage of the beautiful Burford! We hope to welcome you again one day soon! Best wishes, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Great location. Do think the dining room chairs are a little low for the height of the table.

  • "We loved Dolphin House."

We were a group of 8 (four couples) who gathered for 5 days over New Years. We were without cars, so the location in Burford was unbeatable -- we could walk to myriad restaurants, stores, and local scenery. The house is in terrific shape, is beautifully decorated and maintained, and provides a very pleasant stay. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking -- though there were a few additional items we would have appreciated, such as a drip coffee maker (there is a Nespresso for making one cup at a time), and many supplies were extremely limited in quantity (dishwasher detergent, bin and recycle bags), which required us to purchase more. While a number of reviews mention street noise, we really didn't notice! Skyes was reasonably good (particularly over the holiday) about responding to a few maintenance issues -- the front door lock was sufficiently sticky that there was one night we couldn't get into the house, they offered a small refund for a non-working fireplace, etc.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that your group enjoyed your New Year's celebrations and stay at Dolphin House. We agree, the location is so convenient and Burford is a bustling town. We will pass on your comments regarding the coffee making facilities and the front door. We do only provide an initial supply of sundries for use in the property. We hope we can welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Great property & great location."

The house had everything we needed, including towels, kitchen appliances & board games. The house was very cosy & a great size. The conservatory part was a little dirty, however the rest of the house was very clean. The front door is very stiff so would have been helpful to know the trick to get in. However, overall lovely house & would stay again! Thank you

Thank you for providing this feedback. We're so glad you loved the property and location. Thank you for bringing to our attention the issue with the front door which we have noted. We hope to welcome you again. Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage in a great position."

We all felt that the in and out times were unfortunate and certainly differed from other companies we have used. There was no ‘welcome pack’ so the note saying there would be one should have been removed. There was a distinct smell of drains which unfortunately prevented us from using the conservatory. Expecting guests to strip their beds is going a little too far, however despite these negative details we all felt we would return.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a constructive feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Regarding the conservatory smell, its been dealt with right after your departure, We ask a local provider to put the welcome pack, we went back to them and they misplaced it. With the check in & out times, we are working hard to try and guarantee earlier check in without compromising the cleaning. We hope to welcome you again soon. Manor cottages Property Owner

  • "Dolphin House is a beautiful property all finished to a very high standard."

The cottage has ample space and the photos don’t do it justice in that sense - it fits a group of 8 very comfortably. They provided lovely welcoming touches such as a fresh cake from a local bakery, milk and coffee. The location is amazing, right in the centre of Burford access to all the shops and restaurants on your doorstep. We loved our stay and are very much looking forward to returning.

  • "Not really."

As it is located on the main road it is very noisy but that is not unexpected. On the other hand, at the time of a fuel shortage it was handy being that close to the High Street. Just one thing: It is a bit ridiculous not being able to find the cutlery!

Apologies, the cutlery is a little difficult to find. More and more modern kitchens have the drawer within a drawer for cutlery to maximise use of space. We're pleased to hear that you were perfectly situated and had the opportunity to enjoy the lovely local area. Property Owner

The photos do not do this house justice. It was such a beautiful home to come back to after a day of walking and wandering along the high St. Only downside is the traffic noise that is there all the hours of day and night.

  • "In many respects the property has met our expectations."

However, a number of problems needed attention, which meant it was not been all we wished for or might reasonably have expected. On arrival there was an offensive drain smell from one of the 1st floor bathrooms. We found there was no coffee pot or teapot provided. Action from the management company remedied these problems the following day. First one, then both ovens ceased to operate between the third and fifth days of our stay. After a visit from an engineer arranged by the management company we had one oven which intermittently worked and then stopped altogether. This affected our ability to cater as we had planned. On the fourth day of our stay the kitchen tap unit came apart, leaking water when used and requiring a plumber to visit and repair it. I do not think it it reasonable to have encountered so many separate problems in a property marketed at this price point and by a company of your reputation. These issues were raised with Sykes in emails on 15th June and 22nd June. No reply has been received as of 1st July

We apologise for the issues you experienced during your stay at Dolphin House. At every changeover we attempt to check and repair any issues to avoid maintenance visits during a guest’s time on holiday. Unfortunately we were not aware of the issues prior to your stay but feel we acted quickly and to the best of our ability. The problem with the ovens was particularly unfortunate as the ovens are less than two years old and the Neff engineer subsequently confirmed the fault encountered was very unusual. Apologies that you didn’t hear back from us on the emails sent on the 15th and 22nd June, but for some reason we never appeared to have received them. We hope the subsequent contact with the management team has explained the situation to your satisfaction. Manor Cottages Property Owner

About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 2.4 miles; Little Barrington 3.5 miles; Minster Lovell 5.6 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, it is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located midway between Oxford and Cheltenham, it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits! With little change over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all within ten miles.
