G, none of the following: Washing up liquid, Coffee, Salt / Pepper, Milk, Matches, Hand soap, Kindling, ......these are basic items There was a Sky box but no viewing card? Not enough hot water for a decent bath, and no complimentary shower gel All of the above I would have expected to be in the property, all other cottages I've rented supplied these as standard.

Thank you for your feedback. As this property is self catering accommodation welcome packs and supplies are not provided as standard. • "The location is lovely and the cottage generally fine, but let down by a number of shortcomings."

We had to download from the internet instructions for the wall heaters, as the wrong booklet was in the welcome pack. The loo seat in the ensuite was loose on its pedestal. The safety torch in the hallway didn't work. The deepfreeze was so iced up we could not open the drawers and had to defrost it. Rainwater is leaking in through the top central panel of the sitting room picture window. The storage rack at the base of the fridge door had broken off completely. Several of the curtain hooks were missing. Some of the cutlery, crockery and glasses were in sets of three for a four person letting. There were four handsets for the TV and no instructions how to work them. Despite the defects, we did enjoy it and might consider going back

  • "Had an amazing week stay at the cottage."

Despite having a 32 hour power cut, we still had a lovely time. We just bought extra logs, coal and candles for the evening, and went out walking and exploring during the day. The cottage itself is settled at the bottom of Helvellyn. We had rain most of the time and I was worried about the dogs and cleaning them, but as you come in the front door there is a little area to hang your wet coats etc and dry the dogs off. We took loads of dog towels, and made sure the carpet area in the lounge had towels on them for the first hour we were home. There were plenty of dishes, large juice glasses, a little box with bin liners dishwasher tablets and a sponge and a dishcloth. All the reviews I had read had said nothing was provided, so I bought my own, but took it all home again. The cottage heated up very quickly as well. The washing machine has a tumble dryer as well, which is not listed in appliances so that was a welcomed suprise. Just a few little things that would make this cottage perfect, it needs more teaspoons, wine glasses, and a dustpan and brush. We also noticed the large dinner plates do not fit in the dishwasher unless you lay them down flat. Also the one frying pan is too big for the electric rings. Two medium sized frying pans would be so much better. Also it would be useful if a box of candles and a torch were provided in case of a power cut. Luckily I bought two Yankee candles with me, but we had to go out and get a whole box of candles, the next day. Apart from that, the cottage was amazing. The photos on the website do not do the cottage justice, especially the size of the kitchen, and dining area. Just a little thought, the little dressing room could be used as a 3rd bedroom with a sofa bed. We would definitely recommend staying in this cottage. And Sykes dealt with our power cut with no internet or heating very efficiently. (Husband had to climb a hill to get signal to ring their emergency number) We are about to book our next stay with Sykes for 2026 for my 60th, but in a different location as we like to stay in difference places.

  • "We had a wonderful Christmas break at Thirlmere cottages."

It was very cosy and comfortable especially considering the challenging weather and crazy winds. The views from the sitting room window are spectacular no matter what the weather is doing, especially with an open fire adding cheer. The cottage is very well equipped, with everything we needed to cook Christmas lunch and the beds are very comfy. Always a relief as a bad back sufferer The walks from the door are fabulous we hardly got the car out all week. The waterfalls just over the road at Wythburn Swirls were spectacular in full flood, and the Boxing day respite in the weather allowed us to walk up to Blea tarn. This might be some of the best views in the Lake District. We also appreciated the wealth of local books to plan walks for better weather in 2024 :) Just a few points that need addressing, provision needs to be made to defrost the freezer from time to time, and the dishwasher wasn't working as no salt and plus it looked rather dirty. Bathroom plug holes should also be cleaned regularly, they looked rather unpleasant. These were just a few issues to bring to your attention and certainly didn't spoil our stay. Finally we loved the visit from the local Herdwicks on our last afternoon that were being particularly truculent for the local farmer!!!!

Thirlmere Cottage is a beautiful hidden gem…..we really couldn’t have asked for anything more. On our first morning we were greeted by sheep at the window who joined us for breakfast which was adorable. The local hikes were amazing and we truly found it all absolutely stunning. The cottage had everything we could possibly of needed and it was clean and spacious and we were very sad to leave. It really was beautiful. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful. We did have a problem with the TV but after contacting your office this was resolved but as we have to activate the on button on the reverse of the TV each time we watched it there should have been instructions to this effect. Also the pop-up plug in the bathroom should be repaired not just a temporary plug available otherwise we enjoyed our time and the local pub food went down well especially the Horse and Farrier Threlkeld Sunday lunch

Kitchen knives for example - how old! Sky box and TV very out dated. Should have a smart TV these days so people can log on to Netflix on the wet days if they choose to do so. Also, yes it was a wet July, but the cottage is cold and feels damp. Clothes coming out of the wardrobe in the main bedroom felt damp. Gaps between window frames in living must make it very draughty in windy days. Great remote location if that’s what you want. Plenty of walks from the door and great bus service at the end of the lane to Keswick, or Grasmere and on to Ambleside and Windermere. Overall, decent, but needs some TLC

The cottage is comfortably furnished and suitably equipped. We would happily return here. The only (very slight) gripe is having to buy washing up liquid and extra loo rolls as only one was provided per bathroom, which seems a bit stingy.

Thank you for your comments, we are pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay, and the lambs! Items such as washing up liquid are not always provided as the property is self catering. • "We enjoyed our stay at Thirlmere cottage especially the walks from the door."

Our first impression was of disappointment that there wasnt even a single teabag, milk or any form of welcome at all, nothing. In every cottage we have ever stayed in there has been a wide variety of things like scones ,coffee or biscuits, flowers etc. and when you have travelled a distance its a lovely touch. This lack of welcome was penny pinching. The steep steps in the master bedroom meant we couldnt sleep in there as I couldnt manage them.I am not disabled nor do I have arthritis etc they were just too high.Consequently we had to sleep in the bedroom with the twin beds. In the details these beds were said to be twins by default and could be ziplinked if asked in advance. They were already made up together and covered in quite shockingly poor bedding. The duvet was probably 3 feet longer than the bed.The beds were worn out and and very uncomfortable. I would probably have returned to this cottage if the bed had been better . I can live with the very thin bedroom curtains and non opening louge windows, and the difficult to operate tv with its 4 remote controls, or even the freezer that was full of ice, but not the poor sleep.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Not all properties leave a welcome pack or any gifts for guests. We take all comments on board. We do find beds and mattresses to be down to personal preference. Thank you. Property Owner

Great kitchen and dining space. Comfortable beds. Cosy front room. The cottage could do with some modernisation, the main bathroom is dated, alongside many of the furnishings and light fittings throughout the property. The kitchen would benefit from additional equipment i.e. there’s only one frying pan, no blender and knives need sharpening. As there’s no utility room, cleaning our dog after a muddy walk was challenging - we had to make use of the bathroom sink, not ideal. Some complimentary fire wood for the fire would have been a nice touch, akin to many other Lakelover cottages

Also the location is stunning and very convenient for Grasmere. In terms of kitchen facilities, it would have been handy to also find salt and pepper in the mills and mills that actually worked. Also there were no ice cube trays in the freezer. Both these things would normally be standard. However, Lakelovers HQ and the local housekeeper were very prompt in resolving the issues we had with the kettle, the missing bath mat and also the ice cube trays! These items delivered on the same day as we contacted the office was very impressive! Finally, we knew that there was no Wi-Fi or signal at this cottage but actually this proved to be a bit of a pain in this day and age. As the neighbouring cottages obviously have a signal, it seems that this would be an easy upgrade to make.

Nestled at the bottom of Helvellyan and Borrowdale on the edge of Thirlmere the scenery from the cottage is just beautiful in every direction. The cottage is warm, cosy and welcoming but kitchen equipment is a little lacking and the bare minimum (milk drawer in fridge missing) but still a great kitchen and it had everything we needed to cook in each night (we didn’t want to leave the cottage it was so nice). There is no phone signal at all or wifi so you really are cut off - we loved it but others might not. Only little niggle is the front door, it’s a Yale lock with a glass panel so didn’t feel to secure and we were paranoid about locking ourselves out. Please can you update the description on your website to explicitly tell people it does not have Wi-fi internet to the property and you also cannot get phone signal. We luckily saw this from another review and so took lots of DVD's but in this day and age it does cause inconvenience if you don't know about it in advance.
