  • "Great location."

Nice place but quite tired and probably in need of someone just to check things are in order: a loose electrical socket in a bedroom; a loose shower fitting; etc

  • "Great property and great location."

Used it as a base with a group of friends to walk in the mountains. Spacious, clean, beds really comfortable and towels lovely and fluffy! Thank you.

  • "Positives: Good central location with easy access to pubs, restaurants and bakery."

Spacious accommodation for relaxing, dining. Comfortable seating, good TV. Decent kitchen. Negatives: One bedroom is right over the bakery so the occupants of that room were woken during the night by loud music and machinery. Shower/hot water system struggled to cope with 7 residents i.e kept going off mid-shower. More clarity needed on what to do with the rubbish, or whether there was recycling at all. Specific instructions needed on what to do with bed linen – leave on beds or strip. A dispute over missing linen took weeks to resolve after we had left.

  • "Lovely, spacious apartment in a good location on the High Street, within walking distance of some good pubs and places to eat."

The beds in particular are very comfortable. Would recommend the food at the Bear across the street, but advise to book as they were very busy when we visited.

  • "We had an absolutely brilliant time and enjoyed bread and cakes from the bakery, and the delicious smells floating up."

The flat was very well appointed and suited our family down to the ground. The only things we can mention are one cracked window and the lock was a bit dodgy. Also we could have done with serving spoons, a decent pair of kitchen scissors and a bigger cafetiere. However generally the kitchen equipment was good and the beds were very comfortable.

  • "Noisy room above bakery."

Being woken up at 3 am is not fun. Needs to be mentioned in particulars. That room also has a very mouldy window. Please sort this, it's unhealthy. Kitchen ok but lots of dirty pots and pans and cutlery and lots of worn non stick pans which need replacing. Providing some basic condiments like salt and pepper would be nice.

  • "A lovely comfortable and clean property."

The beds and bedding were especially good. We had a great week in a lovely town. The only niggle was the access, no light in the passageway, slightly daunting at night. All in all a great stay, and very reasonably priced.

  • "Clean and comfortable property."

Plenty of space and well equipped kitchen. The only issues that concerned us was the poor lighting on the outside of the property and it would be helpful if there was a warning before hand about the steps to the property which could be difficult for the elderly or people with mobility problems. Also we were unsure about the recyling rules and what to do about waste food.

  • "An excellent well equipped property in a top location As our stay was in November and it did rain a little perhaps could have better lighting down the passage and especially at the top of the stairs."

You probably would not notice most other times of the year but it did get dark by 4pm.

  • "A lovely apartment."

Very clean and comfortable. Perfect location in the town within walking distance of local shops, cafes and pubs made this very convenient. Also a great base for trips further afield. Would definitely stay there again.

Well equipped apartment with shops for anything else we needed just a few steps away. Thank you

  • "Great place to stay in the centre of Crickhowell which has shops, cafes, pubs."

Very well equipped and lots of space for our group and dogs. Perfect place for exploring Brecons and Black Mountains though be aware some traffic noise at the front and bakery noise at the back. Wasn’t a problem for us and 10% off in the bakery more than made up.

  • "What a great flat in the centre of Crickhowell,."

The flat is very big and well equipped with 2 smart TV's with Netflix (if you have your own Amazon/Disney etc tv account you can log yourself in, remember to deactivate when you leave). The kitchen is clean and fully stocked. The bedding and towels fluffy. Parking although not available was not an issue as other roads nearby allowed for free parking. Nice pubs and shops within 100m and if you have a dog with you they can run off the lead down by the river Usk. If the owners need to make any adjustments my recommendation would be some lighting in the alley way to the flat. Oh and last of all don't forget to treat yourself to some cakes and bread from the Bakery below. Thank you we will be back.

Alleyway unwelcoming and uneven. More handrails needed. Bakery excellent, as was the welcome goodies on arrival. Couldn’t work TVs. Very dim light to eat by, as the table nowhere near. Lads of extras, much appreciated. Left three phone and iPad chargers behind, still waiting to see if they have been found, can’t use the phones until we know they are being returned.

The property

Sitting in a prominent position lies The Maiflour Bakery, a charming duplex apartment above the owner's bakery in the centre of Crickhowell, Powys, where you'll wake up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread.

Ideal for a family or group of friends looking to explore the nearby Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) or the bustling town of Crickhowell, the property boasts four bedrooms with an open-plan living and dining space.

Arriving at the property, stepping through the traditional arched alley and up to the first floor, the kitchen welcomes you, fit with an electric oven, gas hob and a dishwasher, certain to entice any budding chefs of the group.

From here the cosy snug, or affectionately known as the cwtch room, invites you to snuggle up in front of the Smart TV, while the sitting room hosting another Smart TV, is available for the group to catch up on the day's events or enjoy a delicious meal at the dining table.

Moving through the apartment, the first bedroom, a double, rests on the first floor and offers fantastic views across the town centre and over to the Brecon Beacons.

Climbing the stairs to the second floor, the remaining three bedrooms invite you to retire after a long day of exploring the surrounding areas; there is a king-size, again offering delightful views, a twin room, and a twin zip/link, for a more flexible sleep arrangement throughout your stay.

Staying on the second floor, the family bathroom offers a bath, shower over and a walk-in shower as well as a basin and WC where you can freshen up between activities; back on the first floor there is a handy cloakroom with a basin and WC, so you will not be short of places to prepare for your day.

Give the chef of the group a break by heading out to eat at one of the local eateries, In Crickhowell you’ll find The Bear, and The Dragon, and in Abergavenny, The Walnut Tree, The Angel, and The Hardwick.

There are also a whole host of bistros, cafes and Indian and Chinese takeaway options in both towns.

In the nearby area there exists an abundance of opportunities for both active or more sedate pastimes.

The Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and Black Mountains are famous for their walking and cycling routes, Llangorse Lake has both sailing and canoe options whereas the River Wye at Hay offers kayaking.

This town, once a year, hosts the Hay Literary Festival where authors from around the world gather to talk about their latest books, whilst Llangorse also has a climbing and pony trekking centre, the former ideal for rainy days with active children, and Fly fishing can be arranged on the River Usk, with the right permissions.

A scenic car journey will bring you to the town of Abergavenny, known for its annual food festivals, the town is also home to Sugarloaf Vineyard, based on the Sugar Loaf Mountain in Abergavenny, the vineyard is open to tourists offering tastings and a coffee shop for a well-rounded day out.

Day trips from Crickhowell to local Gardens, museums (Brecon and Abergavenny), castles, markets, Big Pit Coal mine museum in Blaenavon, or even a visit further afield to the Welsh capital and the St Fagan’s National Museum of History, are all possible.

For lush greenery, take a stroll around Linda Vista Gardens or enjoy a round at West Monmouthshire Golf Club, both are hard to resist under the impressive landscape.

For a spot of history throughout your stay, Bronllys Castle and Crickhowell Castle are beautiful ruins dating back as far as the late 11th century while the Welsh Overland Safari holds guided tours of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
