  • "I agree witrh others that the pictures and description do not do this place justice."

Very comfortable cottage. the first impresion with not being able to open the front door as we could not turn the key was quickly amended when we found a spacious cottage which was clean and comfortable. The two bathrooms one with a bath and one with a shower made life very easy for us staying and the good sized kitchen quickly became a family focal pointy. Even tho' I was relagated to the lower bunk. ( I am 68 BTW) this too was comfortable One final but minor grip was that the ,arkings on the oven had over the years worn away so that operating the oven was guesswork. We finally sorted it by our last day and suggest that the owners keep some guides for this and the washer and other equipment 8in a convenient folder. Other than that would and have already recommended this cottage

Penrallt Farm had everything we needed for our holiday even a few dish washer tablets were left out for us. The locality of the cottage was perfect as a base to visit the local attractions.

  • "As previous reviews have said, the photos do not do this place justice and the listing needs updating."

It was much bigger than we were expecting, I believe it is what is called a Welsh longhouse, the foot print was huge. It was clean, spacious and well equipped and one of the best we have stayed in (have stayed in quite a few). There is a fantastic raised decking area to the side of the property which we used on several evenings, enjoying the fabulous views across the Menai Straits. This is not even mentioned in the listing and was one of the biggest assets. There are also no photos of the bathroom and shower room which put me off slightly when booking but fortunately my worry was unfounded. The location is perfect for visiting both Angelsey and North Wales and the village has several good places to eat just a short walk away. Would recommend the pub and Thai restaurant. Only criticism is the track leading to the cottage is rough, especially if you have a low car. There was also no visitors book which would be a good addition. Overall a great stay, thank you.

It is far more spacious and comfortable than I imagined. We were 2 families staying together and this worked well with the boys sharing the bunkbed and adults having a double room each. The views are amazing despite the wet weather we had. I would follow the advice and go into Y Felinheli before heading to the cottage as it is a very narrow single track the other way. The one thing that would be an advantage is a tumble dryer. There is a washing machine and a clothes airer available. We would definitely recommend the Hydeout smokehouse on Anglesey a short drive away and also a rib ride on the Menai Straight. The owners were very friendly and accommodating and came promptly when we needed a light bulb replaced. An all round fantastic stay.

Loved the views and the peaceful surroundings. Owners were friendly and helpful. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would definitely go back for another stay. Just wish they accepted dogs as we would have loved to enjoy the company of our two dogs there. It was home from home.

  • "Amazing cottage with great views over to Anglesey."

Cottage had everything you could need, although the WiFi was a little spotty in the bedrooms. The bed in the end bedroom was very hard. No leaflets or local information (maybe due to COVID?) but google was great and loads to do in the area for our 11 and 15yr olds, Greenwood family park and Aber falls well worth a visit. Hydeout smoke house on Anglesey is definitely worth it, food was great with relaxed welcoming atmosphere.

The view is stunning from Penrallt. There is a lovely sundeck, not pictured, that was a great addition. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We were lucky to have great weather, very warm and settled the week we were there. Penrallt is a good base for driving to Anglesey and Llanberis/Snowdonia. It is located in a beautiful, semi rural setting. We would definitely go back there. You cannot go wrong

Had a job to work microvave but in the end worked it out. The things l didn't like was the very heavy duvet being used to a feather light cover. And the bumping up and down the track to the cottage became a headache. Needs the whole area smoothed over. In all we had a lovely time. Thankyou.

  • "The location was cracking; the accommodation lovely."

Warm and cosy when the chill set in and sufficiently stocked with immediate essentials Y Felinheli is a lovely little coastal village that I know well, so to spot this cottage on Sykes was great! In addition to the high quality accommodation, on the doorstep you’ll find: farm land, coastline, footpaths, Thai food, fish and chips, tapas, two pubs, and a coffee shop all within 10 minutes of the front door. There’s also a local convenience store with a post office, or a large Tesco 10minute drive away. All that and a cute elevated verandah with sunset views out along the straits......what more could you ask for?! We’d had to move the booking from our original dates in March due to “you know what” so we were really pleased to have this stay to look forward to - the cottage was great, and we would be very happy to recommend to others. Thank you.

  • "We had a lovely week at Penrallt Cottage."

We’ve been holidaying in Wales for years but still discovering new places. Newborough woods and beach were amazing, parking in the woods to get to the beach is a long walk but you can take bikes which we did. We also cycled to Caernarfon on the Lon Las Menai cycle route which was nice and flat, great for the kids. The cottage is very well equipped, great living space and a lovely big kitchen with everything you need, we cooked most nights. The shower is great and the wood burner was lovely and cosy in the evenings. Not shown in the pictures is a beautiful raised decking area where we sat and had dinner most nights taking in the gorgeous view of the Menai Straight and Anglesey, and watching the sun set. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and easily contactable. The only thing that would have made it a perfect stay was the beds, the bed in the far bedroom was very hard and it really could have done with one king size bed at least. The children could feel the springs in the mattresses in the bunk bed and had to sleep on the duvets for comfort. Overall though we really enjoyed our holiday.

Thank you for your feedback and the owner has confirmed that the two single mattresses have now been replaced. Property Owner

  • "As we were away at the end of November/beginning of December in North Wales, the weather was more than likely to be cold!"

However, the Cottage was superb and WARM! It is the first time in 50+ years that we have visited Wales and not felt rain! The Cottage is ideally placed overlooking the Menai Straits - what a view for meals! There was every amenity included that was necessary for a relaxing break. It was great having the owners close by - and delightful to meet him. Thank you Sykes - and thank you to the owners of the Cottage! We hope to return again to recharge our batteries!

  • "The cottage was fine and the views splendid."

The addition of a free standing viewing platform with table and chairs added greatly to the overall enjoyment of the holiday. The shower was great although the doors to both the shower room and the bathroom were a little ill fitting. The beds were comfortable although we would have preferred king size rather than double sized beds. The provision of cutlery was poor - both in terms of the amount and the quality. Drinking glasses also need to be up-graded - there was a mixture of fairly poor quality glasses, very few of which matched - especially the wine glasses. The TV is also rather old fashioned. Overall, however, these were small issues. We had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the environment offered by the cottage.

  • "Lovely cottage with a view of the Menai Strait, our hosts were very friendly and helpful."

The Cottage is up a hill with a very sharpe turn, and to walk to the village has a sharp incline down although further along the road between the houses is a pathway with steps. The cottage itself is lovely, although none of the inner doors close properly especially on the shower room. It was great having two bathrooms, one with shower the other a bath with hand held shower, this perhaps would have been better with shower over bath.

The cottage is in a beautiful setting overlooking the Menai Straits. Certain improvements could be made: - Mattresses in bunk beds had uncomfortable springs - Most of the internal doors were ill-fitting and several were impossible to close - External door locks need renewing (a comment also made by a previous occupant some time ago). Owner did come round with some WD40 style spray when requested but this is likely to be ongoing. - Grab rails in shower and bath would be a great help A lovely, well equipped cottage with pleasant owners.

  • "Property is generally very nice, however, both external doors were difficult to lock and unlock especially for older persons or those with less hand mobility."

Also the bathroom and bedroom doors although quirky, were warped, again, making difficult to open and close. The shower/wc door is of a sliding type in similar construction to the others and was difficult to close and also very noisy especially at night, as the bottom of the door rubbed on the plaster adjacent. Also, on the last night when trying to get a good sleep for a long drive back, the owner's dog decided to bark and eventually stopped at 12.20 am. An apology was forthcoming the following morning but this didn't really help having spoiled what had been an enjoyable week. I would now think twice about going back!!!!

This cottage, however, exceeded even our expectations and we’d recommend it to anyone. Lots of room, privacy, facilities, view, location – marvellous! Should we choose to be in North Wales again our first act would be to see if the cottage was available and be rightly disappointed if not.
