  • "Fantastic location, 8 minutes to Lee beach, 11 minutes to Ilfracombe."

Games room and lots of games for children was an added bonus. Beautiful house and countryside views. If it included towels and bedding would have definitely given five stars.

  • "Firstly a huge thank you to the owner for accommodating us so quickly and to Kathy for doing an excellent job of cleaning and getting the property ready for us in a very short space of time."

It was very much appreciated. We were already half way to Devon when the owner of the original property we booked called to say we couldn’t go there because it was flooded. Sykes booked us into this property and the owners pulled out all the stops to get it ready by 3.00pm the same day which was just two hours away. Brilliant. Would definitely recommend this cottage. Lovely place, central for all of North Devon. Huge safe and enclosed garden for our dog. Lovely friendly olde worlds pub just down the road. We stayed in winter and it was lovely and warm. The only constructive comment for a winter stay, it needs a rug on the laminate floor. In spite of the cottage being warm, the floor was freezing. We had to wear shoes or put our feet up on the settees to keep our feet warm. It was very cold for bare feet or even with socks on. It did warm a little by the end of the week. But that is all, otherwise it was all great and would highly recommend.

The cleanliness was excellent. Very comfortable and warm once the owner sorted out the timing on the heating. Lovey area and great walks. Would definitely recommend staying at The Stables if you like a cosy cottage in a quiet village with countryside views.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Stable cottage."

The owners were so friendly and helpful and the location was perfect for our needs. Ilfracombe is near by which we really enjoyed with our 8 year old twins and Lee Bay which is just down the road is a stunning place to visit especially when the tide is out so you can explore the smugglers steps and rock formations. The shared garden is beautifully kept and has lovely views at the bottom of the sea in the distance and the games room was enjoyed by us all. The cottage was lovely and clean on our arrival and the kitchen had everything you needed. Other reviews have said the space around the beds was very limited but this didn't impact us as there was plenty of storage space for your belongings and clothes but if you have mobility issues this could be a problem. My only constructive feedback was that the patio area we used to sit out on could have done with a little tidy up as it didn't quite match the well kept garden and I did find the double mattress not the most comfortable as I could feel the springs but then that could be because I'm used to a memory foam mattress! This didn't however spoil our stay and we hope to come back again one day.

  • "The sky TV only gives digital channels, limited cooking utensils (no tongues), no room in kitchen to store food."

Fridge very small especially for a property that accommodates 5. Main bedroom so small you can just about walk around the bed. Bedding poor quality. Property cold, light in bathroom doesn’t work, mould on bathroom blind, coffee table kept falling apart, dining chairs rickety, no broom or mop. The games room was good for entertaining kids on wet days.

  • "We enjoyed a lovely few days at Stable Cottage."

The cottage is fairly basic but has very thing you need for a comfortable stay. Richenda and Kathy were very welcoming and on hand should you need them. The jewel in the crown is lovely, very large, well tended, enclosed garden..... our puppy loved running around and around the flower bed! The only thing to mention is that the bathroom is downstairs. There are basins in each bedroom, but the bathroom is accessed through the kitchen, downstairs. This wasn’t an issue for us but might be for some. The cottage is off the beaten track so is quiet, it’s about a mile down a steep hill to the local pub, The Grantham. The pub was serving food outside and we enjoyed a superb dinner and lunch there. Not your run of the mill pub menu, and really delicious food. The walk back up the hill was welcome afterwards, but you need to be fit to manage it! We would recommend Stable cottage for anyone wanting a quiet few days away.

  • "Fantastic base for those who love to walk."

Stable Cottage benefitted from it's own garden with fabulous views, so worth paying the extra. We thought we would eat at the local pub, but this was a mile away and a steep walk back, so we didn't try it. The lady who looked after the cottages was extremely helpful and made our stay more enjoyable. Looking forward to staying again.

  • "The Stables is a lovely cottage that sits above a wooded Coombe that leads to the sea at Lee approx 1 mile down a steep hill (it's where the pub is too)."

The cottage itself has two small bedrooms and a small but well equipped kitchen. The living dining room is a good size and the games room and beautiful garden are a bonus. The hosts were welcoming and have gone to great lengths to reassure holidaymakers in the current climate. Highlights are Saunton Sands, the south west path views at Mortehoe and Wollacoombe beach, all amazing.

Clean, comfortable and perfect size for two adults and two teenagers. Stunning garden which was nice to sit out on patio and admire the beautiful view and all the family enjoyed games room. Owners very welcoming and helpful. We took quite a lot of chilled food as staying for the week but Fridge is quite small so had to put some food in freezer which wasn’t a problem but something to note if taking a lot of food. Just one note and nothing to do with cottage but Sykes advise pub on doorstep which is misleading. To long of a walk down a narrow, sometimes steep in parts road. Safest way would be to drive, definitely not on doorstep !

The best thing is the wonderful garden our hosts, Richenda and Kathy, shared with us. We looked forward to our evening G & T in the swinging garden seat watching the sun setting behind the fields. The view is stunning and the garden is large and well looked after. Our 7 year old son and our dog loved to run up and down the length of it. There is a picnic bench in the main garden and in the cottage's own little patio although it was a bit too chilly in October for alfresco dining! From our 7 yr old's point of view the highlight was the Games Room/Barn. He loved it. Thankfully we had beautiful weather but in October (or any time of year in the uk!) it provided peace of mind that if our plans got rained off we had options. There is wi-fi but the signal is intermittent. Fine for web access and social media but not good enough for streaming There was lots of good local information available. The dog friendly attractions/beaches/ cafes were particularly appreciated Kathy and Richenda were very friendly and helpful.

  • "We really enjoyed the week at the cottage and found it well equipped and particularly well set out for dogs."

.. e.g.hard floor in living room, leather sofas, big secure garden..and the owner Kathy was a real dog lover and even looked after our dog for a day so we could make a boat trip to Lundy. The district is full of great things to do within easy striking distance by car. Don't expect lots of easy walks (with or without a dog).. There are narrow lanes with high hedges and some traffic and the cottage is situated at the top of a mighty hill with a mile long walk down to the magnificent Lee Bay.. and a mountain climb back... Limited parking by the shore.

Cathy and Richenda are so welcoming and friendly, we enjoyed our chats in the beautiful garden. We had a private terrace, overlooking the garden, which had all day sunshine and a picket fence and gate. Our little dog was happy to stay out there and enjoy any attention. We had trips out to Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, both within 15 minutes drive. The cottage is well equipped and spotless, lovely views from the garden and back bedroom. We would highly recommend a break at Stable cottage, we will return for another stay.
