  • "I stayed 10 days and the location was just what I wanted."

The view was great and the barn is lovely. It's short walk to Hathersage and only. assort drive to lots fo great places. The path down to the barn is steep with steps, gates and gravel. To do this every day was a good fitness builder, but it is not suitable for everyone. There were some small things that could have been better - having to empty the dishwasher from the previous person to find the cutlery, the bathroom bins not being empty from the previous person and no replacement bin bags available.

Hi Charlie, Many thanks for your kind feedback and we’re glad you enjoyed your extended staycation, Please excuse the cutlery still being in the dishwasher etc. We’ll pick this up with the house keeping team, who are usually pretty good. We’ve ordered more bin bags too. Sincere regards Andrew & Lynn Property Owner

  • "Beautiful barn conversion."

Steep walk down from parking area. This path was well lit in parts but the had no lighting in the middle section of the path, where there is a very big step. This needs attended to as soon as possible. Luckily we had a torch on us and would not have been able to manage in the dark without one. We received a fantastic welcome pack in the cottage and the owner sent us an email informing us of local amenities in the area. Could do with more coat hangers in the wardrobes. The kitchen was well stocked apart from dishwashing tablets. Second time we have stayed here and would love to go back preferably in the summer or when the nights are lighter.

Thank you for the feedback.. We have installed a new step out of a large section of dressed local stone, which has helped address the issue raised. We’ve put more lighting in the middle of the path and brighter bulbs in the existing lights so the whole path is better lit. Noted regarding the dishwater tablets, we’ve restocked the barn with a large bag under the sink. Best wishes for the holidays Andrew & Lynn Property Owner

  • "This property is in an outstanding location."

Stunning views and accessible to so many towns and villages and lovely walks. The sofas were comfy as was the main bedroom bed. Cows arrived every evening at the lounge window and were lovely. The property is down a steep track which would be a challenge for older people or pushchairs. The property could do with a bit of tlc we felt .. peeling paint outside, and dirty windows gave it a bit of a tired feel. The pots and pans needed a good wash before we used them and there were dog hairs in the oven. We spent a while cleaning cobwebs from every room. We noticed that this had been commented on previously. Bedroom two and three .. beds .. one had broken slats and one squeaked badly. With a bit of care and attention to details this could be a really stunning place.

Hi, thank you for the feedback and yes the location is stunning. We’ve ordered new beds and will install them asap. Having not slept in themselves we didn’t appreciate one squeaks! We’ve also requested a deep clean, however we know our house keeping team does a good job overall though period properties in winter do require a little more TLC. Once the weather improves we shall attend to the painting outside also. Best wishes & regards. Property Owner

Super house for our 4 people and 2 dogs. Area is stunning, you lucky lucky owners. The house was clean, warm and came with great instructions and guides for all appliances. Modern and characterful inside with everything we could have wished for. I would echo that the steps and slope from car to house are challenging but it's fabulous to see improvements over the week in our health and number of stops we made to the top. Would suggest visitors eat and drink everything you bring with you so there's less to carry back up at the end of your holiday

The Barn itself, the location, the views and being able to bring a dog are our main reasons for coming back so often. The communications with the owners are very very good. We had an issue with a smell in the kitchen and they send a handyman in record time. When we returned in the afternoon of the same day the smell was gone. However in our opinion the house starts to need a bit of attention in some places for example the bathrooms and the worn out sofa in the lounge. And please more/better lighting along the path and especially down the steps to the courtyard would be useful. But all in all still a beautiful place to visit the Peak District.!

Many thanks for your kind comments and for leaving the property in good order, it’s always appreciated. We have installed a new toaster and microwave for good measure and we hope the agents have returned the good house keeping bond accordingly. The barns are in a good location and ideal for walking holidays. The barn was very comfortable and homely. The outside space was secure and great for our 2 dogs. It has a very well equipt kitchen, the only things that were missing was a bottle opener and could do with some bigger drinking glasses. The path down to Muddy Boots is very steep as it explains in the description, in the day it wasn't a problem to us but when it was dark the lights on the path down were not working and made if quite difficult. Overall, we loved out stay and the views from the barn are amazing.

Thank you for your kind feedback, we’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Yes the path is a little steep down to the barn though normally it’s very well lit. With all the wet weather the system had tripped, however this has all been repaired by our electrical partner and so is working well. We’ve ordered another bottle opener and more large glasses. The outdoor furniture was very much appreciated as we were lucky with the weather and enjoyed being able to sit comfortably outside. And the views are spectacular! The property was generally clean and well equipped but we think the previous occupants had allowed a dog on the sofa as there were dog hairs and a very doggy smell on the cushions. Also more storage would be great - both for food in the kitchen (maybe a cupboard to replace the over-sized freezer?) and drawers for clothes upstairs. None of this detracted from a really lovely holiday though, and I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

To access the barn you have to walk down a steep path which wasn't a problem for our party which included a toddler, but would be an issue for those with mobility difficulties. The barn was spotlessly clean, had a dishwasher and washing machine, as well as microwave. Having read previous reviews, I took dishwasher tablets and bin bags - items I would have hoped would have been supplied. We did note the water when running in kitchen was I believe to have an air lock as it bumbled throughout the Barn when water used, bedrooms very clean as well as the beds, the first bedroom was very tight for space and would be better to have a single bed. The en suite toilet seat was loose, bathroom could do with de- moulding around shower door and tiles on bath. There were a lot of cobweb webs which have been there a long while in dining area toward kitchen on beam and on stair well window I do have photos if required, Candles look alike need to have new batteries and on outside fairy lights. The Barn information sheet should be left in the Barn as not many people will print off a hard copy ( I left mine for the next group). The most noticeable problem was the access to the Barn I appreciate this is the nature of the build but instead of building a new patio area I feel a new parking area closer to the office (old diary) would be more practicable as it is a long steep hill back and forth with luggage, you are defiantly fit after the stay!! Nicely positioned above Hathersage with just a short downhill (15 - 20 minutes) walk into town where there are plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. There is also a pub a short walk uphill (5 minutes at most). There are a few things needed in the barn such as more mugs. There are only 6. No cups or anything else. The sink could do with a bowl. The mattress in the main bedroom is very soft. It is important to know that anyone with mobility problems would find the path down to the barn very difficult and toddlers would have a problem. Just getting our luggage and shopping up and down was a major issue. Fortunately we had 2 large and fit sons on hand to help. I booked the barn and farm for a family get together. We are a fit 65+ Couple with no health issues so disregarded the warning about the path. Do so at your peril! Finally bring earplugs. Beautiful barn, and the owners responded quickly to our few queries. Loved it, beautiful location too, well placed for lots of exploring/walking/pottering. Would definitely recommend/return.

  • "Access to the property would be a problem for the less than fully fit due to the steepness of the access path."

I believe the owner has already amended the website accordingly.

  • "Such a lovely barn to stay in with absolutely stunning views in every direction."

The barn had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It was perfect for us and our family/friends that came to visit. The gorgeous private walled courtyard was a great place to sit and enjoy the peaceful countryside. The inside of the barn was lovely, modern bathrooms and a spacious lounge. There’s a lovely pub within a few minutes walk and everything we needed was provided. We even had sheep coming up to the windows which my daughter loved. Couldn’t recommend this place enough and I’m sure we will be back soon.

About the location

HATHERSAGE

Castleton 5 miles; Curbar 5 miles.

The attractive village of Hathersage (‘Heathers Edge’) is situated within the Peak District National Park at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking at Edale. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John” (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide! Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and railway station. A great centre for exploring the Peak District!

Broadwood Barn 952359 may be booked with Broadwood farm 952361 which sleeps 9.
