Extremely clean & tidy upon arrival. Great location & just a 5 mins walk to pub & shops etc. Despite the very cold weather the cottage was very cosy & warm and the log burners were a nice feature to have(take ur own logs though). Would book again if it’s still being rented out as it’s currently up for sale sadly.

For the six of us the lack of a second toilet was a little bit of a problem. That was our fault because the description of the cottage made it clear there was only one bathroom. Despite the November weather we had a great time especially as the Christmas lights were switched on. Good selection of pubs/restaurants added to our enjoyment

The best location for heading out for walks & hikes. We have stayed in the Peaks numerous times but Buttercup Cottage has to easily be the best location. Everything on your doorstep and literally a couple of miles from Mam Tor etc.... The cottage itself was so well equipped. We enjoy self catering and rarely eat out so this cottage was fantastic for that. A great place to relax in too and a very welcoming dog home :) We hope to come again!

A short walk to the centre of Castleton (5 mins) but with countryside views to the back made this a wonderful place to stay. The cottage was nice and clean, a decent shower and kitchen facilities too. Parking out the front was available for one car. There were lots of nice touches from the owners of the property such as a book shelf for swapping or sharing books, games and DVD's available and a little folder of information about the cottage itself and it's history, but also the local area and amenities. Would very much recommend staying here!

The garden looked very inviting from the listing and we were hoping to use it even though the weather wasn't ideal. However it looked a bit sad and neglected and the front of the house was unswept which meant dragging in dead leaves etc every time we entered. We loved Castleton and would definitely recommend it for a holiday.

We were somewhat disappointed not to have the welcome pack waiting for us, having read about it in the reviews, and also in the feedback book. The photos give a distorted view of the cottages actual size and it appears a lot sunnier than it is especially the front entrance room, but none for all of that we found it delightful and Castleton is a very pretty village with plenty of pubs to choose from. However we were surprised to read that it sleeps 6, which would be tight.

Thankyou for your comments and feedback. Your comment regarding the additional T towels will certainly be taken into consideration, as this will indeed help with keeping the electricity bill's manageable. We are very sorry that you did not receive a welcome pack, but we rely on Sykes' contracted cleaners to provide this service and we will be highlighting this failure to them. Many of our guests appreciate our facility to accommodate 6 people but of course it's the choice of the customer. It is so reassuring that you found Castleton so delightful, and we wish you many more happy travels. Property Owner

Always very warm, comfortable, fab facilities, truly dog-friendly, superb views of the Dales and Shetland ponies out back. The location was perfect as it was a 5-10minute walk away from every shop, bakery or pub you could need, but as it's on the outskirts of the village it is quiet, peaceful and looks directly onto the hills. The shortbread, ready milk in the fridge, dishwasher tablets and bottle of (delicious) wine were a welcome touch after a long journey and on a cold day. I will be booking this cottage again for sure.
