The lodge had Christmas tree, decorations etc and we manage to cook a full Christmas dinner with everything in the kitchen. The lodge is comfy and clean and we loved our walks around Rudyard Lake. We have now booked for NY next year as we loved it so much.

The hot tub was huge and well maintained. The beds were comfy. No expense was spared on the heating of the lodge, it’s a nest system so I suppose you could let Matt know if it’s too hot or cold. Smashing walks straight from the lodge door. Our dogs enjoyed themselves in the enclosed garden and exercise field not to mention the lake circular walk. This was our second time in the lodges here, 1st at Kipling lodge. We would definitely return.

Thanks for booking the sunshine. The enclosed garden in addition to the extra grassed area was great for the dog. Beautiful shaded walks in the area including round Rudyard Lake which has rowing boats for hire or pay a launch fee for your own craft or SUP. Lovely big hot tub and despite a previous review, there was an oven glove. The washing machine meant little washing to take home. The BBQ was great to use as a stand for our disposable tray. Things we missed from past cottage experience was a hairdryer (we would have taken our own but assumed there would be one), a pint of milk (but we could have taken some if it had been noted that there was no welcome pack). Mark & Matthew were very helpful.

Stunning location and the enclosed garden was great for our whippet, although the squirrels tormented him daily. Hot tub was much appreciated after a stressful few weeks at work, very relaxing. Loved the easily accessible walks and views from the lake walk are incredible. Highly recommend Primo Piano in Leek for a meal out - something for everyone on the menu and one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve eaten at. Must give a mention to the bar staff at the Rudyard hotel who are very welcoming. All in all a great location, great lodge and I wish i were still there! We’ll be back.

The hot tub was fantastic. The beds were comfy, tv perfect. The only issue that we had was the fact that the parking area for the cars froze and we couldn’t move the cars as it is on an incline, maybe have a bag of salt stored somewhere for customers to use as everyone seemed to know this would happen except us of course, However, minor detail. We had a great time

Having taken 2 dogs the private garden was great but also the huge communal area was excellent. Easy walk to the local Hotel for a meal and a few beverages. Excellent covered enclosed balcony with hot tub and table/chairs. Garden area really good for our dog (7 month old border collie) and field beyond even better! There is a stile at the bottom of the field that leads straight to the path round Rudyard Lake. Really good, dog-friendly pub within easy walking distance and lovely walks/miniature train ride for us and the dog. We will definitely be back. Sykes Cottages state there is a shop on site, which there isn't and check out is 9am, not 10am, which slightly caught us out. Other than that, a perfect mini break for our family.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and will definitely be back. We are sorry to hear that there has been confusion over check out time. Check out is 10:00am not 9:00am. Not sure how this confusion has arisen. Look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

The cabin was well equopped and evwn had your basic necessities such as handwash, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, spare toilet rolls and more. The fridge freezer and good size. Albeit the wifi wasnt the best which after speaking to the lovely owners who were attending to the hot tub, is due to location and the phone company but it was still usable. All the appliances in the lodge were very high standard and the hot tub was fantastic. The only little issue is if you have little children like ours (3 years old) they can easily unlock the doors and escape. A bolt or something similar at the top of the door would have made us worry less.

The lodge is very near to the lake but at the same time far enough away to be private. The hot tub and giant Connect 4 were very popular with our grandson! The welcome bottle of wine waiting in the fridge was a lovely touch too. The only words of caution we have are that the lodge does get very warm at night, there is a big portable fan but we could probably have done with another one. Plus, please be aware that this is a remote spot, there is no local shop, the one advertised as being on the adjoining caravan park closed over a year ago! This did not spoil our stay but would have been good to know in advance.

Useful to know - there are no shops in the local town, nearest supermarkets is approx. 10 minute drive. You do need to seek out activities/places to go and visit. Perhaps one small suggestion would be an information pack with activities/places to visit/ supermarkets/ takeaways etc. as you find in many holiday homes. Peaceful, relaxed and chilled time had by all. Garden and decked area are both gated and were ideal and dog friendly for our beagle. Thanks for a lovely stay x

The attention to detail and the little extra's going that extra mile are what I feel make a holiday that little bit extra special. Soap, cleaning products, cloths, dish washer tablets,T.towels were all provided. It doesn't state that there is an iron and ironing board provided but there is. This lodge is beautifully refurbished to a very high spec. The beds and pillows are pure luxury are extremely comfortable, the best weeks sleep I've ever had. The kitchen goes beyond being fully equipped as there is an extensive range of crockery and utensils. We loved the heated hot tub, especially after long walks and despite the colder November weather, it was heaven to relax in the secluded hot tub. My two youngest children didn't like water on their faces but after a day in the hot tub, they both had the confidence to dunk their heads under water. The children particularly enjoyed playing with the giant Jenga game and the giant connect four. Set in a stunning, tranquil location along Rudyard Lake. Sainsbury's superstore is 7-10 mins by car for everything you need and Leek is 3 miles. Mathew (Matt) was the perfect host and he and Mark's hospitality was great! • "For the three of us, all over 60, admittedly, Kipling Lodge is now the benchmark other lodges will have to live up to and it is clear that the owners have not stinted in its refurbishment."

The lodge is incredibly high-end in terms of the quality of the fixtures and fittings. The kitchen is superb. The dinner service and matching oven to tableware is just beautiful and encourages the user to make the table presentation for meals more like a five-star hotel than a holiday lodge. The saucepans etc are also good quality as is the range of cooking utensils. The main bathroom is excellent and the shower is big enough for anyone to get in easily. The showers themselves in the main bathroom and in the ensuite are identical, but the cubicle in the ensuite is more challenging for those who are less flexible. Two bedrooms have 5’ beds and the third is two bunk beds. The underfloor heating can be zoned, so that the bedrooms remain cool whilst the main room is warm underfoot. The furniture in the main sitting area is also good quality and comfortable with a pleasant view over the well-maintained garden and grassy area beyond. The outside eating area is secluded and next to the hot-tub. We found the adjacent lakeside excellent and the Rudyard Light Steam Railway, which runs alongside the lake is an enjoyable resource, although we found it fabulous for walking the dog early in the morning before anyone else was up. Within easy reach is Leek, a charming market town which has a substantial Sainsburys and a big Lidl will opening soon. 30 minutes away is Buxton and Chester is about an hour and twenty minutes drive. We loved it and we will be back

The lodge has been taken over by new owners & as such has undergone extensive improvements, including new bathrooms, kitchen & furniture throughout, even the hot tub was new !! All this made for a fabulous stay & we would happily return in the future.
