  • "Really lovely quiet location."

Comfortable beds, good cooker with all basic cooking equipment. Loved the layout and space it provided. One down side was the bathrooms. There was a notice in the downstairs bathroom asking us not to use the shower. The upstairs shower had a good powerful head but the cubicle was very small, which made it awkward for the older member of the party!! One shower for 8 people is difficult and I think this needs looking at. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely return.

Thx for the feedback. The house has an upstairs standard size shower in the bathroom and a downstairs bathroom with a bath, an over bath shower (with curtain) and a handheld shower off the bath taps. There is NOT a sign saying do not use the downstairs shower. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place to stay, especially if you have a dog."

Plenty of safe space for your dog to roam and lots of public footpaths to use. Games room great for kids/teens. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would recommend shanklin (near shanklin chine) for dogs on the beach. Lots to do in IOW and all in short driving distance. If there was a hot tub, we would be back over Christmas!

  • "The accommodation was exactly as we had expected."

The barn is light, airy and comfortable. The down stairs over the bath shower was broken, we informed the owner and the cleaner was supposed to leave a note. Nothing was done about it during our stay. The beds were very comfy, it's so quiet we all slept incredibly well. The garden is fantastic. Our dogs loved it. Sadly the weather wasn't great so we were unable to enjoy it. But we made use of the games room which is a great addition. The wild life in and around the garden is amazing. Red Squirrels, Woodpeckers, Herons and numerous birds of prey. The only negative comment would be concerning the road leading to the barn, it's full of pot holes and definitely needs repairing. All in all we loved it, and would happily return.

Thank you for feedback. The shower situation had now been resolved. The property has an upstairs bathroom with shower. The downstairs bathroom has a free standing bath with a shower (with curtain) over it along with a handheld shower off the taps. Property Owner

  • "Lovely setting for property."

Kitchen has very little worktop area for size of house. Smoke detector is set of by frying on stove. Inadequate extraction in kitchen. Needs decorating and could be cleaner, tile grouting in shower unsightly. Windows also very dirty. We enjoyed stay and walks in the area. Plenty of games and great barn for pool, table tennis etc. We had no dog with us, but lawn had dog faeces on it.

  • "This is our 3rd stay in 3 years."

The barn and location are perfect for our family. Other guests have mentioned the flooding from the main bathroom shower and this is still happening and does cause water to seep into the lounge, which is a slip hazard and really does need to be addressed. The plastic garden chairs are broken and unusable and dangerous and again really do need to be replaced urgently before someone gets hurt. Apart from the above, we had another lovely stay and can’t wait to come back.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your third stay with us. We appreciate you booking so many times with us. The shower is over a stand alone bath and we provide this to give extra flexiblity to customers. There is a shower curtain to use to prevent any issues. Thank you for your comments, we will address these straight away and look forward to you coming back again in the future Property Owner

  • "The barn was fantastic!"

We all loved it, the garden was large and secure, the games room entertained the teens for hours, the house was lovely, the beds were comfortable and everything was well presented. Kitchen was well equipped. I loved that the house had 2 separate upstairs bits. The bath took a while to run, but you could just set it running a bit earlier to solve that problem. The bad reviews I felt were really clutching at straws. I dont know what some people expect when they go away, especially to a dog friendly family sized house. The only small issues were the showers: the downstairs one got water everywhere somehow, and the upstairs one didnt work. If we were to return to IOW I would definitely use this place as a base; it's a fantastic location down a dirt track and away from other people, so you can have music on and play outside later without worrying about annoying people. It's easy to get anywhere on the island aswell, nowhere seemed to take longer than 45 minutes to get to.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the property and your stay. The showers are in perfect working order. The downstairs shower is over a free standing bath. We provide this to give extra flexibility to customers and leave a shower curtain to prevent the water from escaping. Once again, thank you for your comments. We really appreciate you booking with us Property Owner

  • "We stayed here 3 years ago and loved the place."

Unfortunately the place is tired and now needs some tlc. Broken wine glasses, broken outdoor furniture which resulted in my sons girlfriend having hot tea spilt over her. Wet floor in the downstairs bathroom when using the shower (needs mastic). Hot tap fitting broken. Upstairs shower trips , cleaning not up to standard, loads of insects . Upstairs rooms need a fan...mouse in main bedroom upstairs.

Hi Thank you for raising these issues. They have been passed onto the property management and have been addressed. Property Owner

  • "1. The dishwasher cutlery tray was missing, so we had to wash up our cutlery after every meal."

    2. Cushions were covered in dog hairs. We were not pleased to find dog hairs in our clothes. 3. We got a lot of interference on the TV. There were no instructions to help us make adjustments. 4. The home information pack told us that bags with drawstrings would be left in the kitchen for us to put bedding etc in at the end of our stay, but no such bags were to be found. 5. The hot tap on the basin in the downstairs bathroom is broken, probably because it was installed wrongly in the first place, turning on clockwise and off anti-clockwise. 6. The bathroom floor floods whenever someone has a shower, so we have to be on our hands and knees mopping up afterwards. (We do know to keep the shower cutain inside the bath at all times.) I'm not going to ask for a full refund but I do think that these complaints should be recognised financially, perhaps half the cost.

Hi Thank you for taking the time to raised issues. The dishwasher is new this year (2022) and has a pullout cutlery try at the top of it - no basket needed. The hot tap was not broken - some taps turn one way and some taps turn another. The issue with lack of bags was addressed during your stay my my property manager - it was just an oversight by the cleaners. The TV and shower both seemed to be fine after your stay so we are not sure what the issue was here. Regardless, we have addressed all the issues raised and checked everthing over. • "Found the cleanliness of the property very poor."

We cleaned the fridge, toilets, floors, unit tops on arrival. The cushions and furniture were covered in dog hair so did not use the main sitting room. The downstairs shower flooded onto the floor even with the shower curtain round, so mopped for a second time! Real shame as the location and quiet was lovely and the games barn perfect. However, do not forget any belongings as I did and after two and a half weeks I got it posted back on 2nd class unrecorded post and with no contents.

The Barn was clean and well equipped with a large enclosed garden where the dogs could run around in. The games barn was great to play table tennis, pool or table football in the evenings. The Barn is on a Farm/Nature reserve so is rural and nice and quiet. The track leading to it is unmade and fairly long, so you need to drive slowly but we had no problems with three cars.

Really comfy bed. Well-equipped. Some things need attention. Access was one star: difficult to open the key store in the gloaming in early February and no heating, so the house like an ice box. Heating timing apparently not working. Insulation clearly not good: temperature dropped immediately when heating was off. Cleaning poor: mouse droppings in two rooms and dog hair around the sitting room. Dishwasher on the blink (no rinse!?) and no rinse in the cupboard. No instructions to sort out dishwasher or how to figure out the tv system (Now is useless if you can’t find a way to log in). It would have been helpful to have been provided with more / up-to-date information about the island, especially walking. Very easy wi-if access. Fantastic for a family or two families in summer. A bit more problematic in winter. Nonetheless, a fun stay.

Hi Thank you for raising these issues. There are lights in the playbarn where the key safe is and the light switch is right next to the key safe. There are full instructions for the boiler/heating even though the property only has a few radiators off the boiler (boiler is mainly for water). Every bedroom upstairs and every bathroom has an electric radiator which can be swtiched on and and left on with temperature control on the unit. Also there is a wood burning stove which works extremely well to heat the whole property. There is no need to log into the TV. Just find the right source/input for the freeview box. We have since replaced the dishwasher and dealt with the mouse :). Property Owner

  • "Following 2 weeks of storms, the track is now only 4 wheel drive friendly."

The hot water tap in the kitchen cannot be regulated and goes to full power unexpectedly. The bathroom tap was loose and leaking. A plumber was called and the problem solved efficiently by Sykes. 1 guest slipped and fell on mossy pathway at rear of house, probably not a normal issue but gutters did not cope with the rainfall. We had read reviews of a small kitchen so were prepared, however, it was the lack of storage space for food that was a problem. Only 1 small cupboard in the kitchen was available for storage, all the others were filled with an unnecessary abundance of crockery. There was a lack of storage space in 2 of the smaller bedrooms. The ground floor bedroom only had a small understairs wardrobe, a bedside cabinet with 2 small drawers and a small dresser with 2 small drawers, difficult for 2 adults. A lot of our clothes had to be stored on the window ledges. The small upstairs bedroom only had a chest of drawers which we couldn't access because we had to put up a travel cot in that room. All toddlers clothes were laid out on the spare bed which wasn't too much of a problem, but might not be quite as acceptable for older people using that room. We loved the space both inside and out. The location was quiet and close to walks. Contacted Sykes re the possibility of an external washing line rather than using the tumble dryer, with 8 people this would not have been environmentally friendly. We were pleasantly surprised to find, on our arrival, that a line had been installed, plus pegs. We were staying for 2 weeks and were pleasantly surprised that after the first week, someone came in to change bedding and towels. The only thing that would prevent us from using this holiday venue again was the narrow lane that leads to the track because there are few passing places and there were often bottle necks where we had to spend a lot of time either reversing or waiting for other people to reverse. Whilst this was frustrating, it wasn't as frustrating as coping with people who didn't seem to appreciate that you have to slow down on small country lanes when you cannot see around a bend.

Otherwise this lovely, spacious, well-appointed barn sitting in a large enclosed garden provides a perfect setting for a family or group holiday. The splendid isolation makes it a tranquil location yet still handy for getting pretty much all around the island. We enjoyed trips to the beach, the steam railway, the Needles, Osborne House, the Roman Villa and the Garlic Farm. We were surprised there was no 'welcome pack' in a property of this calibre but would definitely stay here again.

BUT the track leading to it is extremely rough with deep potholes that are unavoidable, on a slope that was slippery after the rain. We skidded and my son's Volvo grounded a couple of times. Definitely not a place to go with a low slung modern car. A Landrover would be better. Sykes staff unfortunately have no personal knowledge of the properties they let. Unsurprising in such a large company. I did phone with a couple of inquiries and although perfectly polite and courteous staff only repeated what I already knew from the printed details. On the day we arrived we had a problem with a tap that would not stop gushing water. The property manager who we phoned, was brilliant and found a plumber who came within an hour or so. Not bad going on Saturday night just before Christmas.

The beds were comfortable, however there was a lack of decent mirrors/full length mirrors. Even though I am on holiday I like to be able to check that I look OK. The sofas were comfortable, which was good, some cottages are lacking in comfortable lounge furniture. The kitchen was cramped but very well equipped. We enjoyed the table tennis and having the outside eating area. The barn was generally clean but the windows were filthy. We were lucky with the weather and had some beautiful sunsets behind the barn, however these just proved to show up how dirty the windows were. Be aware that it is in a valley and phone reception is bad, but ok if you change mobiles to internet phone settings.
