Clean, comfortable with just about everything you need and more. Hosts could not have been more accommodating. Highly recommend.

  • "A lovely property!"

Very spacious. Thank you for the cream tea welcome gift - much appreciated! A very peaceful place to stay. We enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels. Well equipped property with comfortable beds.

  • "Great base for our holiday."

The conunication with the owners was excellent. We were able to drop our bags of a bit earlier. The cottage was spacious and comfortable.

  • "Very secluded spot (other than the owner neighbours next door!"

) Google maps got us to the right spot - in car satnav got us very close! Very narrow roads, so not practical to walk directly from the property anywhere. Excellent Totnes nearby for all food needs and lots of other attractions within easy reach. Owners were really friendly and helpful with any problems (only minor ones & dealt with quickly.) 3 of our party were over 60 and had no problems at the property!

  • "Stert Mill is all you could possibly want in a holiday cottage!"

It is extremely peaceful-you’ll certainly sleep well. The location is perfect for exploring Devon, with lots of beaches-some dog friendly, only 30 mins away. I loved its rustic style which actually has every mod con you could possibly need. The owners are very friendly and can’t do enough to help. I also thought that the sustainable approach to their choices for the mill were great.

  • "A fabulous spacious and comfortable cottage."

Everything available, like “home from home”. Sam and Simon were very friendly and welcoming and we arrived to a lovely Devon clotted cream tea. Very peaceful, lovely to hear the birds and the running of the stream. The picnic area across the road by the stream was wonderful, very idyllic. The only small disappointment was the advertised circular walk through the woods was not really available, although the owners did say we could walk up the steps and follow the path but it was out and back, not a circular walk. A great place to stay to enjoy peace but also easy access to the coast and the moors.

  • "We had an amazing week in this absolutely beautiful cottage (which was much larger than the photos made it look!"

). It had all the comforts to make it feel like a home from home, and was the perfect base from which to explore Devon. The road leading to the cottage is narrow with passing places, but was very quiet so easily navigable and rarely happened upon another car (I think we did once in our week). All in all an incredible find and we will certainly be back again

  • "Thanks for a great stay."

We loved Stert Mill and were so grateful that we were able to walk our nervous dogs around the little woodland to the rear of the house. What a great place to spend a week.

  • "Lovely cottage, however would not advise anyone over 60 yrs old due to lack of local amenities and exceeding narrow roads / path which to drive in."

. Walking locally is a no no due to narrowness of lanes and local traffic and woodland walk is not for the faint hearted. But beautiful cottage and very well fitted out and clean

  • "Lovely bright and cosy cottage with very welcoming hosts in delightful setting."

Local dog walking limited, not really a problem for us as we went out every day. The narrow lanes, although extremely pretty in May, make for slow and arduous driving. Good location for many coastal walks in South Hams.

A lovely week. All amenities were perfect. The scones and jam were a lovely addition. The cottage was clean and there was plenty of cleaning products available.

  • "We visited this property in September 2020 and enjoyed a truly wonderful week away."

It is set in a beautiful, quiet location, down a small track. Fields and farmland surround the property, it's very tranquil, perfect to unwind. The property was clean and well presented, it had everything we needed for our stay. The small garden at the front was perfect to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, whilst listening to the birds. Each room is spacious and bright. Whilst there are no local amenities close by, Totnes is a short drive away with plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Within 30 minute drive you can reach lots of stunning beaches, many secluded and also pick up the south west costal path. There are many fabulous walks, beaches and places to explore nearby, we would definitely book to return to this holiday cottage.

The property

Stert Mill is a sunny cottage attached to the owner's’ house on a hedgerow lane 1½ miles from Diptford.

Surrounded by woodland and with simple but smart décor with pale walls and wood floors, this is charming and relaxing accommodation for enjoying the peace and beautiful countryside.

Take the steps up to the front door and you will find yourself in the hall.

Off this, you have your spacious sitting room where you can snuggle up beside the cosy traditional open fire, and a dining room with another snug wood burning stove for which all the logs are provided.

The kitchen with its slate floor is well equipped for cooking family meals using delicious fresh Devon produce.

Head on upstairs to a quiet space for reading beside the balustrade on the landing, or to sleep peacefully in the three comfortable bedrooms which look out across trees and where you will be lulled to sleep by the chuckling stream outside.

The bedrooms share a choice of bathroom or shower room.

Outside, the stream which once turned a mill wheel passes your enclosed suntrap garden where you can light up the barbecue, or go across the lane to enjoy a good book or a picnic in the peaceful grassy area beside the stream.

You are also welcome to enjoy a circular walk around two acres of woods.

This is idyllic countryside where you can walk or go fishing in the River Avon or head to the open space of the Dartmoor National Park.

It is not far either to wonderful beaches at Bigbury-on-Sea and Thurlestone for bucket and spade seaside fun or surfing.

If retail therapy is your thing, visit Dartington where the fabulous shopping village has all the treats you could wish for, as well as good eating places.

Alternatively, the old towns of Totnes and Dartmouth have attractive streets to wander and boutique shops to browse.

With coast and countryside and interesting towns all around, Stert Mill is a lovely base for exploring Devon.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
