  • "We had an excellent week at Shepherds Hay."

The village is absolutely beautiful and so quiet - more horses passed our front door than cars. The local pub is highly recommended, great food and friendly staff who made us very welcome. The cottage was warm and had everything we needed and the enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. Would definitely come back

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Shepherds Hay. It sounds like both you and your furry friend had an enjoyable stay with us. It's a great spot to get away from everything and we are so pleased you enjoyed it. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The property was a very pretty cottage."

However, the arrival time of 6 pm was too late in the middle of winter. Don't normally take one but I had a torch in my handbag which without that I could not possibly have seen the key safe as not only was the property in darkness there are no street lights. Three very precarious steps to get up to the property with no handrail is dangerous and on finally entering the light in the small hall was not working. The central heating was very iffy with it coming on and off all the time so the cottage was cold which resulted in me having to light a log fire just to keep the sitting room warm and the other rooms just warm. Very expensive way of heating all day for us. On the plus side the garden was great for the dog as fully enclosed. Would not stay again though.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Shepherds Hay. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed the cottage and thank you for your feedback. We have spoken to the Owner with regards to your concerns. The Cottage does have 3 steps leading to the cottage, but they are not precarious, they are just normal steps, maybe it was more the fact the area doesn't have street lights and if your used to them. Lots of little villages don't have street lights, but on the plus side you can see some amazing stars on clear nights. With regards to the light, we will get maintenance to check this and if the bulb is out, we will of course get this replaced. We will add details for guests and suggest they bring a torch with them, although most people tend to have lights on phone these days to. We will also get the Housekeeping Team to look at the instructions to see if we can simplify them for future guests. We hope you had a wonderful time and made the most of the area. • "We absolutely loved the village of Stanton and the cottage's location."

Considering it was our first time in the Cotswolds it lived up to the hype. A really nice local pub which did good food and were very friendly. Right in the middle of miles and miles of countryside to explore, pitted with lovely villages. Our only negative's if there were any are as follows; The Cottage was fairly clean apart from the second bedroom where my daughters slept. The bedding has bugs in them, which we removed and the sheets themselves smelt musty. The main bedroom was fine. The central heating didn't work for the first couple of days until an engineer came out. It appears that the control module doesn't always sit in the craddle which meant the heating didn't come on most mornings without me having to push it back in. The previous occupiers hadn't emptied the bins so when we came to put rubbish out they were already full. The instructions for putting bins out was also outdated as it was a different council who were in charge of the bins. I had to find that out for myself. The back garden was very well kept. Unfortunately for us it wasn't the time of year to be able to enjoy it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're glad you loved the area and surrounding amenities. Thank you also for bringing to our attention some issues you encountered which have been passed on to the Property Manager and will be addressed. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

One other point why say logs are provided when there was no such thing.

Thank you for your feedback. We will pass on your comments to the Property Manager regarding information about rubbish and recycling, and ensure that logs are provided. We hope this didn't impact your stay and that we can welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The village of Stanton is beautiful and I would recommend going to the village hall in the evening as they make you very welcome. The telly in the cottage is very small and the plug in the bath did not work! However, these are minor issues which did not spoil our stay in any way. Would recommend this cottage.

I could not have asked for a more beautiful place to stay. I hated to leave! Just two very small things for the owner - I could not find a broom or dust pan which would have been very helpful. Also, for those of us who are walkers, it would have been very nice to have more books in the cottage on walks near Stanton. I bought a book and left it in the cottage but I think a few more would be very useful. Thanks again for a lovely, perfect stay. Dale

  • "Very comfortable cosy cottage."

..had a very enjoyable stay. A couple of small points... Sykes entry details i.e. Can't get into property until 6 pm is apparently incorrect. I contacted the management number as initially we were promised a starter firewood pack for log fire which was not there when we arrived and was told during the conversation that access time was 4pm and Sykes had repeatedly got this wrong. Refuse bins were overfilled with loose refuse bags crammed down the side of bins but after mentioning this, the management team did arrange for rubbish clearance when we were there. We never did receive the logs and the suggestion to break of the lock on the log store was never taken up...we just bought some ourselves from the Co-op in Broadway . As there was no one coming into property after us we were allowed to check out later in light of the fact that entry time was incorrect which was appreciated. Would stay again.

We apologize for the issues that you have experienced. We would never ask you to damage a lock. We are sorry for any miscommunication. The check-in times were changed during COVID and have yet to be updated within some welcome packs, but we are working on getting this rectified. The correct time for check-in was 18:00 as relayed in your key collection details. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back again. • "Wonderful stay at Shepherds Hay."

A very cosy cottage with plenty of character. Games on the shelves which we enjoyed playing and a beautiful garden to sit in. Even a carton of milk on arrival. Having stayed only 3 nights I wish we had booked for a longer stay. Having taken 2 children 7 and 9 with us I was worried they may have got a little bored but they loved exploring both the house and the village, especially the church. The cottage itself was incredibly clean and tidy with everything you could possibly need from tin openers to jugs, dab to high chairs. Only a couple of little things that may need looking at for future holiday makers. Bin didn't stay closed but we popped a tin on the top. We noticed there is a bee hive in the guttering above the kitchen. This didnt bother us (somehow knowing they were bees and not wasps made them a lot more friendly) and we still sat in the garden but some may find it a bit unnerving especially as the odd few snuck into the house. Also noticed the kitchen door lock is a bit temperamental but a little gentle attempts and it worked. Overall would love to go back again. Thank you for letting us stay for a few days

Thank you for providing us with feedback on your stay. We are so glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay and appreciate you informing us of the issues you encountered with regards to the bin and kitchen door. We will make sure that the bee hive is looked into and thank you for letting us know of it. We hope to one day welcome you back again. Property Owner

  • "On arrival we noticed straight away that the front windows were very dirty."

The lawn desperately needed cutting, the household waste ‘wheelie bin’ was full (on departure, the lid wouldn’t close after putting our one small bag of waste inside.) The kitchen bin lid was broke, we had to place a tin of soup on top to keep the lid shut. The toaster pop up handle is practically impossible to use. Although we have a touch induction hob at home, we couldn’t get the hob to work at all, the individual hobs showed the selected heat number (1-9) but no heat came out, even after giving enough time. The fridge light worked randomly, and the ice box was badly iced up. The television is woefully too small for the room. One cable was trapped between the plug and socket, believed to be for the aerial booster box, hence the signal kept failing. The main wardrobe and under stairs cupboard were cluttered up items. Finally the cleanliness was very poor, and the property was in desperate need of redecorating, the bathroom is a disgrace. Disappointing to just have a packet of biscuits, no milk, hand soap or a even a couple of dishwasher tablets. We have taken photos should you require evidence.

The old bed was the only thing we would've changed. It's a lovely comfy bed now. The only things we want to mention is the wall next to the kitchen adjoining the village hall has collapsed onto the patio area, you may already be aware of this. On previous visits someone used to come into the garden and put out the wheelie bins when due for collection, but when I went to put rubbish in the bins they were both very full and didn't look as if either had been emptied for a while. I looked in the cottage binder and it said there was a bin day collection chart in the kitchen but I could see it. I couldnt find anymore bin liners mid stay, or black bin liners to put bedding etc in on our last day. I did find an Ikea bag and used that. It's also been our first stay in colder weather and the heating never came on once. Apart from these minor niggles as ever we had a fantastic stay and will be back next year. We love shepherd's hey and it's always spotless. Thank you.

Many thanks for your feedback. we have spoken to the housekeeping team regarding the bins, as they should be emptied before your arrival. we have also spoke to housekeeping re: Black bags, heating and refuse collection. We were unaware of the wall, so thank you for bringing to our attention. Property Owner

However it’s starting to look a little tired and needs some refreshing. The lounge sofa and chairs are looking quite battered. Further the mattress on the double bed seems a little old, and is not super comfortable. It would be worth getting a king size bed in that room, it’s big enough, along with a new mattress, or at least replacing the current mattress with new. There were a few cobwebs around the place and dust on the back edges of the sofa. Either it has been empty a while or had not been cleaned thoroughly. Not dirty, just dusty. Generally he kitchen is well stocked with decent quality items but it does need a frying pan. Lots of positives too, and would happily stay there again, but would be good to see some more upkeep / TLC ...it’s due.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on Shepherds Hay Cottage. The Owners take all feedback very seriously. The double bed will be replaced with a new King Size Bed and Mattress for guests arriving after the end of January. The Sofa and Chairs are less than a year old. The village is like a dream and the house is just gorgeous, exactly what you hope for when staying in the cotswolds. We only have a few issues, the master bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress felt old and the duvet was too small for the bed and definitely too small for 2 people to sleep in the bed, with better pillows needed too. We ended up sleeping in the guest room most nights as this was more comfortable so I would really recommend they change this to some more luxurious bedding. Also, outside dining table and chairs were dirty and because it was summer, we would expect this to have been cleaned off and ready to use. Lots of the glasses has lipstick marks on them too. These were small issues really but would make the world of difference to someones stay if improved. If the bed was replaced, I would definitely stay there again. The Village is quiet and the footpath runs right through it. The pub is great although a little expensive but the food is good, make sure you reserve as it gets very busy!

About the location

STANTON

Cheltenham 14 miles; Gloucester 25 miles.

Stanton is arguably one of the prettiest and most idyllic villages in the whole of the Cotswolds, located at the foot of the Shenberrow Hill in the Northern reaches of the Cotswolds. Without doubt it has one of the most stunning high streets in the region with ancient houses dating back to the 16th Century built in typical Cotswolds style with steeply pitched gables, mullioned windows and honey coloured limestone walls. The village also boasts two magnificent manor houses as well as a restored medieval cross and a church dating back to the Norman period.

The village has an Open Gardens Day which normally takes place in June, when the many beautiful gardens can be admired. There is a plethora of lovely walks including the famous Cotswold Way which traverses for 100 miles between Chipping Campden and Bath - that tracks through Stanton.

And for relaxation, the Mount Inn pub stands on a hill at the top of the village with spectacular views across the Vale of Evesham towards the Malvern Hills and Welsh mountains beyond.

Note: This property requires a Good House Keeping Bond of £200

Please note: There is a honey bee nest in the roof in the extension (first floor). If left alone, honey bees will not bother people. The nest will be removed and relocated in the Autumn.
