  • "What a wonderful cottage to spend a relaxing break in."

Bull cottage has everything one could wish for, it’s well equipped and extremely comfortable and located in beautiful Burford. We could not have found a more perfect retreat.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Bull Cottage and its location in Burford. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Only one minor issue was there was never enough hot water for four showers."

I think this should be highlighted in the welcome folder to avoid cold showers and advise people to wait a half hour or so in between the first two showers and the last two! Otherwise a fantastic cottage and short break and we will definitely use Sykes again and probably return to Bull Cottage!

Thank you for providing this feedback. We're so glad you loved Bull Cottage and enjoyed your break. Thank you also for bringing to our attention the issue with the hot water for showers which we will pass on to the Property Manager. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We were very pleased with the house but would like to comment on some points:There was no green box in the garden for food rubbish."

The chairs in the kitchen could be more stable as the floor was very uneven. Lighting in the kitchen was inadequate especially at night. It would have been nice to have a flexible hose shower in the downstairs Showerroom instead of a fixed one. No cupboard space for dry food in the kitchen IE for cereal etc. However it was the oldest house we have ever stayed in and we loved the original features and the pretty yard with scented roses.

It was a pleasant change to have more than just a salt shaker in the cupboards for cooking with as well as everything you needed for cleaning, washing etc. The building work next door looks set to continue for some months but we did not find the noise intrusive. Would definitely recommend.

  • "I was assured after particularly asking the question that certain provisions would be provided in the cottage - ie milk, coffee, tea, orange juice, biscuits, crisps, loo paper, logs etc."

NOTHING had been provided when we arrived late in the afternoon at the cottage. So embarrassing and disappointing for me. As they say you don't know there is no loo paper until it is too late. The cottage itself was beautifully furnished clean and comfortable. I was also originally told parking was available and it is advertised as having on street parking which is slightly ambiguous. I originally decided not to publish my disappointment as the cottage itself was so lovely. I have been offered a discount for any future bookings but my confidence has been dented as you can imagine. This is a new request for feedback so here it is.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're so sorry to hear the welcome pack was missed on this occasion. This is very unusual and we do hope this won't deter you from taking up the discount to return to the lovely Bull Cottage. We look forward to welcoming you back. • "Great cottage and very well equipped."

Being January, it was nice to have the woodburning stove, albeit no starter logs on our arrival. (This and a few other issues were addressed early on day two.) Unfair that we weren't warned about the major building works going on right next door. (I know it's in the TCs that you cannot be held responsible for noise from neighbours or construction works, but it would have been great to have a heads up rather than being woken at 7am by rocks being thrown into a skip right next to the bedroom window.) Unfortunately on street parking was an issue for us with 2 cars, luckily you can unload right outside the cottage. Burford is a lovely town with many places to eat and drink and we all enjoyed ourselves.

  • "It’s a beautiful, comfortable and interesting cottage and was very convenient for the shops."

However It was hard to get help when requested in app - a very stiff shower knob meant it was very hard to adjust the temperature on the upstairs shower which was uncomfortably hot. In the end we phoned to get them to help because the app said it had been sorted out when it hadn’t . The building work right next door was very noisy. It disturbed us often and the builders often parked on the double yellow lines right in front of the lounge window. It was an expensive cottage and we were disappointed by the building work and customer services.

Thank you for providing this feedback and we're glad that you found the cottage to be so comfortable, and the location convenient. We're sorry to hear you encountered an issue with the shower which has now been rectified. Regarding the building work next door, unfortunately this is beyond our control and we hope this didn't impact your stay and that we can welcome you again. Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful old 13th century cottage with all its quirky features including the uneven flagstones in parts of the dining room floor."

Very smooth and shiny after years of wear which had sunken a little. We felt we were living in a bit of history. We did not find the floor a problem at all but I guess some elderly people might. The kitchen was well stocked even for someone who bakes and it was relaxing sitting in the courtyard. I did water the plants as we were having a very dry spell and some pots were dying. The bedrooms were lovely, spacious with comfortable beds and several fans were provided for the hot weather. The parking was not problematic- two roads around the corner had parking spaces and there is a free Car park three minutes walk away. We loaded and unloaded in the double yellow lines outside. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that you found the cottage atmospheric and had all the amenities your required for your stay. We would love to have you visit again. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Overall we had a lovely time but I think the listing should draw attention to the fact that this property is not really suitable for old people who are unsteady on their feet and young children."

The floor in the entrance room is very uneven and there are lots of steps upstairs and down which could trip people up. The parking situation is definitely a nightmare. Saying parking is on street and unrestricted is misleading as there is little nearby without double yellow lines and we always had to park at a distance as there were never any spaces. The town car park in Burford restricts parking for more than 12 hours in any 24 hour period so is not suitable for residential use. We took the risk but may have been lucky. Finally we suggest more attention to maintaining the courtyard and its furniture. I had to clean the furniture when we arrived as it was dirty and the area looked neglected. Such a pity when it could be a lovely feature. This can be easily rectified of course.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and we're glad that you had a lovely time at Bull Cottage. This cottage is one of the oldest in Burford, dating from 1390 with many of the original features, making the uneven floors and steps part of the character. We're sorry if this impacted on your stay there, together with the parking issues. Burford is a beautiful location but is consequently very popular and parking can become an issue due to the sheer amount of visitors to the Cotswolds. We have taken note of your comments regarding the courtyard furniture and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would love to welcome you again. Property Owner

  • "Bull Cottage is just wonderful."

The sense of history is astonishing, the decor comfortable and stylish. Both bedrooms were very generous. The kitchen was well-equipped, though might have done with an electric mixer, candlesticks and some cloth napkins, but these are minor points. The dish washer and washing machine were of good quality. Our stay was from mid January to mid February, so we didn't use the back garden but could imagine how charming it would be in fine weather. Just next door to the Angel pub, in which we enjoyed having drinks and a few meals, we were surprised by how quiet it was. Our guests invariably said that there were good vibes in the bones of the house. We agreed. The location was perfect for us, just off the high street, yet a two or three minute walk to the countryside with rolling hills and farmland. Manor Cottages does a great job managing the cottage On the first day we couldn't find the compost container and were flummoxed by the modern shower upstairs. Almost immediately someone came around to help. We rented the cottage for a month and were so pleased with the weekly bed linen change and tidy up of the cottage. The young women who came were lovely and conscientious. That was a huge plus as we had a few couples and our grown children at the weekends. If I have one suggestion, it would be that the mattresses (at least in the bedroom with the TV) could use a topper. And the pillows were a bit flat. Easy fixes to make a fantastic cottage perfect. We do hope to rent Bull Cottage again.

Thank you for providing us with such lovely feedback. We are so glad to hear that you and your guests enjoyed your stay at Bull Cottage. We are so glad that you found the Manor Cottages team so helpful and we have taken your suggestions for improvement into full consideration for future bookings. Thank you once again for providing us with your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back to Bull Cottage any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Bull Cottage."

The home was beautiful and immaculate, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone considering the Buford area. As a family with four children, it was great to find a 6-person accommodation with 4 twin beds and a king (instead of the 3 queens). Arriving late at night, it was a nice touch to be welcomed with cake and milk. \ The pros: 1. A 600+ year old building with all the character you could imagine along with all of the modern conveniences you would want. Interior doorways and nooks in walls have stone arches that one would normally see in a church (there are rumors that stonemasons who built the local church were housed in this cottage and practiced their craft on this house). 2. Plenty of places to congregate (large den with TV, living room, dining table, and breakfast table). 3. The furnishings are a nice mix of antique pieces and newly upholstered chairs and couches. 4. Kitchen has new appliances and is well stocked. 5. All three bedrooms were large with plenty of space to stretch out. 6. Two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a shower/tub. 7. While it's literally 30 seconds from Burford's high street, the cottage is very quite. We never heard any noise from the crowds on high street nor even from the pub next door. 8. The Co-op market is a one minute walk away, and it stays open until 11pm. 9. Plenty of lovely shops (antique, clothing, etc.) as well as restaurants within a few minutes walk. 10. Some nice Cotswolds walks through the countryside start right from the front door. The (only) con (which was minor and wouldn't cause us to hesitate staying at Bull Cottage again): - was the lack of parking right outside the cottage. The closest parking space is about 100 feet away; but it's more likely that you'll have to park 300 feet away on a side street. It wasn't an issue for us, but it's something to consider if you have mobility restrictions. There is no problem stopping at the door to unload and by later afternoon the street clears out so parking is easy...it's just daytime parking that's a bit tight. \ Victor, June 2016

About the location

Burford

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
