Hi Ron , We are sorry you did not have the best time with the wi-fi at the cottage. We haven’t had any other complaints and when we are there as a family of 4 we haven’t had any problem. It was a pity as you mentioned you were trying to work so that must have been frustrating, again our apologies. I messaged promptly to try and help and we messaged back and forwards when we could. We were on holiday abroad and were experiencing dodgy wi-fi too at the same time so it wasn’t the best combination. Trust you understand. Regards J Property Owner

  • "Amazing cottage, lots of space, downstairs bathroom was very welcome."

Shower was hot and powerful! Washing machine was very effective and there was enough space upstairs to dry things. Huge kitchen, more than enough room to get round even with the wheelchair. Internet was really useful as the phone reception in the seatown is patchy at best. Cullen was amazing, as always! There was a loose kick strip by the kitchen door - I happened to have an odd screw and tools with me so I repaired that as it was a bit of a hazard. For wheelchair users , I don't recall seeing it on the listing but it would be useful to know that the kitchen entrance has a small step down inside, and the other entrance has a small step outside. Other than that, an excellent cottage, would definitely book again.

  • "This review includes comments from a previous review from our last stay."

The other visitor reviews have provided a good accurate summary regarding local amenities that will be interesting for a stay in Cullen. Take note of the comments below that are specific to the property. This is our third time at 85 Seatown. We found it to be clean on arrival. Be mindful of the issues surrounding parking. We parked our car on the kerb outside the property. You may be offered a parking space at the front of No.146, as parking outside the house made it difficult for passing vehicles. The Seatown streets are narrow, so be mindful if you have a large vehicle. You will find the bins of the property right at the very end down a narrow passage. Worth checking with the locals on the bin collection day. We tried to keep the cottage clean throughout the week. There is a broom available, but a wider broom would have been really useful to sweep out the house properly. Please can you change it. The same goes for the hoover, which had difficulty sucking anything up. I was happy to hoover the house, but had very little success. I think having access to the house via two doors is a great idea, especially when cooking in the kitchen or needing a cool breeze to pass through the rooms. Cullen is about getting out and discovering places, but there are days when we just wanted to watch a bit of T.V. The wifi did its best to cope with all our devices. I will briefly touch on a couple of things to consider in Cullen. We were disappointed with the local fish and chip shop. Try the fish and chips in Portknockie. First class. Chinese takeaway in Cullen also really good. The co-op is really handy, with a Tesco available in Buckie for a big shop. To summarise, all of my comments are only a slight, with suggestions that could only improve the experience. I think many would agree that 85 Seatown is a lovely little cottage, ideal for a family wanting to get away. I believe that it is good value for the quality of the cottage in the summer period. For this we wish to thank the owners. We have booked again to return in November.

Fabulous base for the local area, with lovely walks from the property itself, along the sea front and coastal paths to other villages. Excellent property with everything you could reasonably need especially in the kitchen (though would suggest good quality bath sheets rather than the small towels provided - only real negative for the whole stay). Finding the property was a bit of an adventure, but this is part of the areas charm. (Nothing to do with the property itself, but the local fish'n'chip Linda's shop was overpriced, very bland - not sure where everyone else has been! Walking tour was excellent but whilst allegedly free it's became rapidly clear it's really not) Overall a great place to stay in a lovely location with lots of history If staying here, it's worth trying to get to Cullen House when it's open - believe it's a Friday but worth checking. Thanks for taking the time to feedback - we always appreciate that. So sorry you felt there was no-where to dry your washing. We have an agreement with Mrs Mair (146) that guests can use the outside line to dry washing - but this obviously wasn't explained (apologies). We also had an internal drying rack available, but it seems that has gone missing - we will replace this. • "Have stayed in a few Seatown cottages which we’d gladly go back to - it’s a beautiful area however - I can’t see us staying here again."

The cleaners had done the very basics prior to arrival and we had to clean the place as it was a bit grubby. Good sized kitchen. Lack of outdoor space and no parking is a real minus. Arrival info needs updating- it really isn’t clear where the outside bins are- the supplied info says in a courtyard behind #146 but there’s a mobility scooter parked there now and the bins (some of them at least) are round the other side. Other cottages were using our bins. Nobody pays any attention to the parking “rules” - there’s meant to be a private spot for this cottage but any time we used it we were (rather rudely) blocked in- after that there was just a car left there all the time so we parked by the sea wall. Not the best experience.

Dear Peter many thanks for your feedback. We always appreciate insight into how we can ensure guests' holiday experiences can be improved to ensure a superb relaxing holiday. we have just finished a week there ourselves (owner booking) and had noted 2 of your points as needing attention. The arrival information does indeed need updating, a task we are looking to complete this week. Which in turn will address the wheelie bin location update. Its likely we will move the location of the bins to a more suitable and convenient location - your feedback is timely. Regarding the parking issue, we had no issue parking across from the cottage all last week, however given the tightness of the Seatown area we also have an agreement with the owner of 146 that the 'private parking' directly in front of their house can be used at any time by 1 car from the cottage guests (this will be included in the updated arrival information). Finally regarding your issue with the cleanliness of the cottage, we are so sorry and disappointed it doesn't meet with your expectation. We took time over the lockdown period to refresh a significant amount of the cottage (new carpets throughout, new towels, new linen and upgrading of the appliances in the kitchen). We also changed our cleaner around 1 year ago and have had nothing but full star feedback since then on cleanliness. Please reach out if you want to discuss this further, and let me thank you again for taking the time to give us this feedback Stuart & Joy Property Owner

This is a surprisingly spacious cottage, with a large dining kitchen, comfortable sofas and beds, good wifi and extremely well placed for the beach. It is set amid a maze of pretty and quirky wee fishermen's cottages, many of which are now holiday homes. The cottage is less than a two-minute walk from Cullen's fabulous beach and there is a caravan selling excellent coffee at the edge of the beach. We found miles of scenic walks without the need to get in a car and even saw a pod of dolphins from the coastal path. The town has a good range of small shops and cafes plus great ice cream and fish and chips. We will definitely book again. We met the owner who asked if there was anything that could be improved and I can honestly say we couldn't think of a thing.

We have listened to your feedback and are using the current lockdown period to make a number of changes. 1) we have replaced the range cooker & the fridge/freezer in the kitchen. We agree they were starting to become temperamental 2) We are replacing all carpets through the cottage (Stairs, landing and all 3 bedrooms) 3) We are updating a number of the softer furnishings to ensure we retain the cosy cottage feel, but have refreshed anything beginning to show signs of wear and tear Hopefully you can plan a return trip to see the fruit of your feedback thanks again Stuart & Joy Property Owner

The big kitchen was a delight. To be able to walk to the beach, to the harbour, to the town so easily made it an ideal place to be. Cullen is a good centre for exploring the Moray Coast and there are lots of great walks close at hand too. Eating out was a bit harder, but Rockpool cafe, the Loft Coffee House on Seafield Street were perfect places for a tasty light lunch and of course there is Linda's Fish and Chip shop and the Ice cream shop. absolutely not to be missed. We would like to thank the owners very much for a wonderful relaxing and most enjoyable holiday.

Dear Mr Bourne Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on the cottage. We appreciate it and are glad it exceeded expectations. Parking at the property was a little tight. It was quiet, but parking may be an issue in the summer months if all the properties are being used. We have been to Cullen on three previous occasions and have always found the village to be very quiet off-season, possibly due to the high number of holiday properties in the area. If you want peace and tranquility, Cullen is the place to come. The property has two points of access; one into the hallway and one to the kitchen. This is really useful when taking out rubbish and needing fresh air when cooking. The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials and the owner provided a few bits and pieces, and left items from previous visitors which was very helpful. The kitchen is very spacious and has a lovely family table to have dinner together. The kitchen and lounge are separated by double doors. Sky-lights throughout the property show that it has been modernised. Also, with the property being close to the beach, having wood laminate floor is a nice idea, so that sand can be brushed away. Central heating is excellent which is controlled by a thermostat in the hallway. All bedrooms were clean, with bedding and sufficient towels provided. The bedrooms have blinds on the windows that block out the light completely! Ideal for a good night’s sleep. A small collection of books are available with a toy box. WiFi works fine. Good 4G signal in the property too. There must have been signal improvement in the area, because we visited Cullen in 2016 and had no signal at all! To summarise we cannot really fault the property. The owner has made efforts to modernise it and provide all the comforts that you need. Ideal for any family that just want peace and quiet. Great opportunity to do some beach walking. Check out the cliff walk to Portknockie, or head the other direction to the pet cemetery. The village is limited for shops with no cash point machine. However, there is a mobile cash machine that pops into the village and you can get cash-back from the village co-op. Great Chinese take-away. Head out to Buckie or Elgin for more shops. Tesco store at Buckie just off the main road. Baxter’s shop and Spey Bay are nice. The bridge giving you access to the beach at Lossiemouth is closed so it’s worth checking this before heading out there. Thank you for a great holiday. Hope to visit again. Highly recommend.

We knew this because we took our to children to Cullen every year in the 1980's and early 1990's. Our children are raising their own families. We are now in our 70's and came up to refresh our memories of happy days of long ago. Reasonably good weather, Great scenery, beautiful sunsets, and looking at the lit sky in the North at Midsummer midnight. What more could an older couple ask? Yes, a corker of a macaroni and cheese lunch at Christie's Garden Centre, Fochabers. And the local people are friendly and helpful. WiFi fine. Broadband so-so but that would be outwith to owner's control. Being used to gas cookers, we had initial problems acquainting ourselves with the electric oven. We reported this to the owner. We had our car. Necessary because the 35 bus is I think one per hour. There is no baker, butcher, petrol station or bank in Cullen; and no ATM. Buckie is 5 miles away. Drive, or catch a bus, or go on-line (that won't fill your petrol tank). Or walk - if you are fit! To recap, there is plenty for the older client to enjoy e.g. Glenlivet, Portsoy, Baxters on Speyside. But - Cullen is a child's paradise. About the location

CULLEN

Elgin 21 miles.

The Moray coastal town of Cullen is situated on Cullen Bay, an inlet of the Moray Firth, and is an extremely attractive town, originally built around the mouth of the Burn of Deskford. Modern Cullen comprises the delightful fishing village of Seatown and an ‘inland’ area, which stretches up an imposing main street from Seatown, underneath a spectacular viaduct. Although the wealth of Cullen was built on textiles in the 18th century, the town is best known for its fishing heritage, its name being given to a rich, creamy haddock soup known as Cullen Skink. Visitors can enjoy Cullen’s lovely sandy beach, the famous Ice Cream Shop, regarded by many as Scotland’s best ice cream parlour, a fine selection of shops and restaurants, and the historic city of Elgin is within driving distance.
