“This cottage was definitely not up to the standard of other Sykes cottages we have visited.”

Although quaint and old fashioned there were several major grumbles. The kitchen was the main problem here. It is in need of modernisation. It's quite dingy and would benefit from more light. The cooker was the main problem. The oven took so long to cook anything, 1hr 30 mins to cook a pasta bake which should have been done in 40 mins. The hob also took a long time to warm up. There were several items I washed up before using them and the tea and coffee containers had definitely not been washed out since the last use. The bedroom was very small, the main problem being that the bed was against one wall which meant that both of us were disturbed during the night for toilet visits. I basically had to get out of bed to let my husband get up. Difficult to make each morning too. An old fashioned bathroom with a very stained bath, which was OK to stand in for a shower, but wouldn't have fancied a long soak in it. There was no welcome pack, just a few notes on a card. We only discovered the brown food bin on Day 2. Same with the recycling box out in the garden, which was full so we ended up taking the bottles out one day to find a recycling bin and took all the plastics home with us! The one redeeming factor was the garden which we enjoyed sitting in, on the 3 sunny afternoons we had. Definitely wouldn't return here. It had the feel of an old persons house which hadn't been touched for years.
