  • "On my journey to Anglesey I had car issues and pulled into a service station where I rang the owner called Paul to let him know what was going on."

He was so concerned he offered to come from Manchester to take me and my son and daughter to the property if needed. What an amazing offer. Thankfully I managed to drive but really appreciated such a kind offer. On arrival we had a welcome pack which was a nice touch. The accommodation was as described and we had a wonderful time. We had some slight problems but Ronnie had them sorted within the same day. One being a few nails from the carpet grippers sticking through the odd place on the stairs and he sorted them. All in all we had a fantastic time for the week we had, and have already booked again for next year. Would highly recommend.

  • "First of all, I would like to say why I chose the property."

First and foremost I needed a house not only with the correct number of bedrooms for our family, but also one that had downstairs facilities for my elderly parents. This, along with the close proximity to accessible beaches was why I booked Regent House. The number and layout of bedrooms and bathrooms/toilets is excellent. The very large living and dining space is great for big family gatherings such as ours. The bathrooms and toilets were well thought out and pleasingly modern. However, the lack of thorough cleaning throughout the house spoiled our experience and meant that I spent time cleaning that shouldn’t have been needed. Also, I didn’t feel relaxed sitting on the soft furniture as I was aware that it wasn’t as clean as it should have been. Specifically: - a number of sheets were stained - areas in the kitchen; cooker switch, cutlery tray, fork stuck under washing machine gathering dirt, in cupboard next to dishwasher (dirty and smelled awful), pan cupboard, mop head so visibly grubby that I didn’t use it, cup cupboard wet with cups loaded in rim down so all had to be re washed and cupboard cleaned, fridges were not clean and we had to clean them before using - old door mat thrown in ‘garden’ - gravel area outside of fenced space was full of weeds - picnic tables covered in green slimy mildew, probably due to wet weather but should still have been scrubbed off - window frame on landing dirty - stained towels - cracked sanitary ware in a bathroom and a toilet - side panel chipped on bath - old plaster and toilet roll left behind a cistern - black ‘mould’ around upstairs shower The stair and upstairs carpet was dirty - well hidden by its dark grey colour but obvious because of how dirty socks quickly became. The carpet is also well past its useful life, with grippers pushing through on at least two of the treads. At the entrance to one of the upstairs bedrooms, the carpet was lifting away from the door strip. Looking back at reviews from previous occupants, I can see that the age and state of the carpet/grippers was raised by an occupant in September 2021. As I knew, window handle broken off. Ronnie said this would be replaced during the week but it was not. The complete lack of wardrobe space meant there was not sufficient storage space for our clothes and belongings. This was noted in a review by a previous occupant of July 2022. Absolutely no space for food storage in the kitchen was a real problem , especially since we had a good delivery on the day of arrival. Net curtains in 3 separate bedrooms had holes in them. In the downstairs bedroom next to the front door, the walls were very wet this morning- possibly due to the amount of rain overnight but maybe indicating a problem. I’m sure that fishing groups or hen/stag parties potentially have lower standards than others but do not believe the house to be fit for purpose for a family holiday.

No need to worry about parking it’s there for you. You are I the middle of the high street so have supermarkets, cafe, pubs and take always all walking distance and all were brilliant…….just remember you are not paying Ritz prices, thought it was excellent value and we will certainly be returning. • "The good stuff: The people who rent out and the man who manages this house are good people."

When I spoke to them they were kind and accommodating. The coast and countryside around Amlwch are breathtaking and the people are sweet and friendly. This house has a good sized lounge with decent sofas. We were able to park 6 cars outside most of the time. You can go on foot to buy food any time, it’s so close. There’s also takeaways, pubs and a petrol station, and a beach all in walking distance. The local tackle shop and co-op have loads of great stuff for water sports and household items. The house has plenty of bin bags, loo roll and cleaning products, which was appreciated. The house has a hose outside. It’s cold water but it was a help. The small patio space was secure enough to keep dogs and children in and away from cars. The bad: All of that being said, this house shouldn’t be for rent really, even for a low ish price, in the state that it’s in. It’s unfit and detracts from the enjoyment of a holiday. As a start, the cleaners need to be brought in for an actual deep clean and then to properly clean after every visit. The thick hanging cobwebs all over the ceilings are a good sign of how long it’s been since that’s happened. The gravel patio outside is grubby, full of old dog poo and fag ends. It needs ripping up and sorting out and then maintaining. Someone should come and clean the bird poo off the windows. Someone should sort out the mould around the baths and showers. The house is deeply uncomfortable, particularly when full. I have actual bruises from the bed springs digging into my legs and side. Many of the beds are like this. This isn’t about the perfect night’s sleep. It should be physically possible to sleep in a bed in a house you’ve paid for. So much of the house is broken. Every door sticks or catches on the floor or creaks so loud you wake everyone. The shower downstairs has such a badly broken door you can’t fully close it so water pours onto the floor and then you get trapped inside it. There are whole floorboards which slide and can trip you. The crumbling sharp tiles on the edge of the kitchen working surface need to be repaired. The stained and dog hairy mattress protectors need to be replaced, along with most of the mattresses. The door into the shed needs to be fixed so it actually closes, so children and animals can’t get in amongst all the paint tins and chemicals. A house this size by the sea in Wales has to have a large modern washing machine (the house has an old one) and a dryer. 14 people and two dogs going to the sea or walking in the rain in a cold country can’t cope without a dryer and be comfortable. People in rooms need somewhere to hang things like wet towels or clothes. A room with just some drawers leaves you nowhere to put stuff after a shower or get stuff off the floor in very cramped spaces. The towels provided should be large enough to dry one standard sized adult human. This house isn’t dangerous levels of dirty, and no one got hurt while we were there, but it was a bit grim. The whole place is so badly done up and taken care of. The amount of broken stuff, old stuff, cobwebs, surface-only cleaning, and super shoddy DIY in this place was depressing. If you don’t mind this stuff that’s fine, but the listing should be honest that the house is like this and that nothing is going to be done about it. The house has decent proportions. If it was ripped out and started again they could charge double what they do now, but they need to start from scratch. Sykes are relatively charming before you book but when I called up afterwards with questions they were brusque and dismissive. Their cancellation policy is also rubbish, particularly after the last two years, but this is well known.

  • "The holiday house was dirty and had not been cleaned properly in some time."

We found food spills inside microwave, on kettle, splashed up kitchen tiles, dirty cooker, dirty toilets, dirty shower downstairs. Someone's make up sponge underneath coffee table, an earring in the sink, the stair carpet is worn down and the gripper caught my daughters foot at the back, so no underlay. The garden area had weeds, no flowers or shrubs so not a nice sitting area. The pans required a wash prior to use. Manager entered the property to leave us 2 bottles of wine to say sorry for the dirty house, this felt invasive. Very expensive for the conditions and not worth half this amount. The whole house needs painting and some quality beds and furniture, The upstairs bannistar on far side is loose, house needs a refurbishment. Never paid to stay somewhere so bad before. I have pictures btw.

  • "Despite having a lovely family holiday (6 adults and 4 children aged 10 8 6 and 4) spending quality time together and enjoying many of the beautiful beaches that Anglesey has to offer, Regent House sadly did not fulfil our expectations of the quality expected from a property booked with your company."

As a family we have used Sykes before on numerous occasions either as couples, individual families or our larger family group; most recently in May this year. Prior to the holiday I had raised issues about the exterior appearance when driving past the house and informed your company who forwarded these to the owner and an attempt to rectify them had been made. The house was close to amenities -we used a good co op store, had a pleasant meal in the Trecastell Hotel in Bull Bay and visited a lovely cafe for breakfast on the last morning. Unfortunately we were too close to the pub opposite! Nothing can alter the location however, family groups like ours need to be aware that the noise level and unsuitability of some of the language could be an issue as it was for us. The house was just about adequately equipped for eating together but we did find the oven rather limiting for cooking for 12 people and noticed the fridge had been leaking at the end of the week. We cleaned the dish washer and the washing machine and used them. We felt that a dryer would have been useful if not a necessity. There were enough beds all made up but poor quality mattresses and bed linen and a few of the covers smelt musty. The overall state of the house was definitely not ‘superb’ as advertised: it was generally not clean enough some rooms and kitchen cupboards smelt musty and there were damp patch marks on the walls and peeling paint It looked very tatty, being in a poor state of decoration and repair. We coped with what looked like unfinished building work around loft entrances and ceiling plaster not painted, loose electric socket and light fittings, broken and sharp bath panel, loose dangerous carpet fixing by door and dirty extractor fans but couldn’t face using the disgusting toilet brush! More importantly we were concerned about upstairs windows not having restrictors fixed to them and wondered whether fire regulations were adequate. It was also difficult to get out of the kitchen door carrying a small child due to proximity of fridge rubbish bin and a table. I do have photographs should you wish to see them but can’t seem to attach them in this comment box

  • "Amlwch is not the prettiest of towns but please don't let this put you off!"

It will initially make you think "OMG this is rough" but the people really are lovely and real! What we liked about Amwlch is that it is not pretentious and the locals will help you deal with things. This property is ideally situated for pubs/restaurants and shops etc. It is right in the centre of things and a fabulous base for travelling around the island, along with some great walks and an interesting heritage. The house is colossal. There is so much space. Paul, the owner is such a lovely man and he even allowed us to stay for an extra night free of charge as he had some free spaces!!!! Ronnie the caretaker/maintenance man is a local and can tell you lots of things. He is a minute away and is very quick at getting back to you if there are any issues (not that we had any!). Don't expect the Ritz, this is a fabulous home but it is a work in progress, it has everything you need and is very clean and Paul is continually trying to improve it, from talking with him as he is very keen on constructive feedback! This is refreshing as many owners only care about getting the money in! Whatever you want/need Paul/Ronnie will sort it out almost immediately! Anglesey is magical, please try this place and see wha you can experience!

Had a few little issues with the hob but Paul dealt with it efficiently and was very apologetic. Also had a power cut but that was due to a wagon taking out the power line in the street but was back up and running in no time. We would definitely book to stay at Regent house again.
