  • "LOVELY property in a truly idyllic setting."

Fantastic place to unwind and reset. Swam in the Menai straits every day at high tide (don’t swim at low tide; you will get stuck in the mud!

  • "This an amazing property in the most fabulous location!"

We have stayed three times there and whilst we’re there it really does feel like ours! When we show photos of the views from the garden they think we’re on the Riviera!

  • "Beware – there is a rental property above Glan Dwr!"

There is no mention of this in the description. Menai Holidays claimed they had no obligation to inform prospective guests of the rental property above and when questioned about this, prior to our holiday, we were categorically assured by the owner that there would be nobody above us during our stay. On this basis we continued with our booking. Had we not received this assurance we would have cancelled. But guess what? We heard the occupants of two separate lets during our week and when we complained we were told it was the owner himself! Unbelievable. Like other reviewers we found the place needed a facelift and a deep clean; tired, uncomfortable sofas, antiquated bedroom basins and some heat in the master bedroom would have been nice. It’s patently obvious that the view sells the property but don’t be fooled. It’s far from luxurious and seriously overpriced.

We are sorry to hear that you did not have a good time staying at Glan Dwr but, as advertised on the website Glan Dwr can be booked with the smaller apartment above, Glan Dwr Bach. At the time of your enquiry there was no booking in the apartment, though this changed, as Menai Holidays informed you it may do (no assurances were given that it would be empty). As no adverse comments have been made, during the long time we have been letting both the properties, we have not felt the need to inform guests when both are occupied. Much work has been done over the winter to up-date and refurbish the property including a beautiful new kitchen but not to the detriment of the style and comfort of the house, pictures will be forthcoming. • "We loved the property and intend to return."

It was a quirky, warm property with amazing views and access to shoreline. The only suggestion I would make is to have some new foam cut for the two sofa's seat cushions as they were not comfortable to sit on. We used the comfy leather single chairs, it meant we couldn't have a cuddle but was not a major problem for us. We were enchanted by the property, garden and views. Thank you for renting your family holiday home.

  • "The location of the property is stunning re views however the property was in need of a good clean and refurbishment given the four figure sum for rental per week !"

We had major difficulty in contacting Sykes re information with calls made but no calls to resolve situation returned before and during the stay . As senior people felt the steps down to the property were difficult to use and created a mobility issue not prepared for this situation re restricted parking and unloading the car using this path .We were not informed of a rental on the top floor of the property . There were issues internally re Wi Fi connection instructions all in all the house was very tired and would hesitate in any recommendations or customer service re Sykes

  • "We absolutely loved the property, and we were extremely lucky with the weather."

The view is incredible and we spent most evenings sitting outside. We know there are plans to update the kitchen. The new bathroom is excellent, as is the new decking area. The house could do with a real good *spring clean*, as there was a smell in the kitchen and dining room, and downstairs generally seemed dusty. The two largest bedrooms had very comfortable mattresses but the twin and double had very uncomfortable mattresses that need replacing. The road noise was to be expected considering the position of the property, but overnight it was quiet. You can hear the residents upstairs walking around, but only when they are in their kitchen. We would have definitely like to book again, but looking at next years prices, they have nearly doubled! £1700 for the first week in September.

  • "The view was lovely and that's about it."

The property was heavily overpriced for the condition of it. I can only assume that covid has made this owner want to cash in. The pictures on the website do not reflect the tired state of the property at all. We will be looking for some kind of refund. At £2400 for 6 days we expected luxury not tired, faded and grubby.

  • "The house itself was really quirky and interesting."

We found this added to the experience. The decking was fabulous and a great new addition to the house. We appreciated the lovely gardens. The bedrooms were every comfortable and the main room in particular was stunning. The family had a wonderful time and would recommend this property as a relaxing and welcoming venue.

  • "This was the 2nd time we've stayed at Glan Dwr so knew what to expect."

The location, garden and view can't be beaten - they are breath taking. The new shower room and deck exceeded our expectations and we loved them both! The house has great character and some wonderful original features however, it does need some modernisation, especially in the kitchen - though I understand that a new one is going in next year. The only other comment I would make is the same one I made last year, i.e. the mattresses in the twin room need replacing and the one in the small double is extremely firm and could perhaps benefit from a good quality foam topper. Sadly, we won't be coming back next year as when we went to book we saw that the cost had doubled!! I appreciate that a price increase is likely but this is far too much for us to consider coming back. :(

  • "Just back from a very enjoyable weeks stay at Glan Dwr."

This house really is a very special place right on the edge of the Menai Straits with amazing views over the water and to the mountains of Snowdonia. You can even see the top of Snowdon on a clear day. There are views from every room and the lounge is a great place to sit when the weathers not so good and watch the comings and goings through the straits. The landlords have recently installed a large sundeck which is the perfect spot to enjoy the views with a drink or meal. The garden is a delight to be in. When the sun is shining you'd be hard pushed to beat this place for a magical holiday. We noted a couple of minor things to the landlord which I'm sure will be worked on and we would add that the electric oven in the kitchen is probably past its sell by date but these really shouldn't detract from the overall unique experience that that this property offers. It's well situated for Beaumaris and lots of walks at Newborough Forest about 30 mins drive away but well worth the visit. Also a great beach at Llanddona and you can walk right around Red Wharf Bay for a well earned stop at the Ship Inn. We got the impression that the landlords have worked hard to keep up the standards in this property continually adding/improving the property. Overall we would highly recommend a stay at Glan Dwr and thank the landlords for making our stay so special (and the welcome bottle on arrival!!). Merv and Denise, Dorset

  • "Glan Dwr is a wonderful house in a spectacular location overlooking the Menai Straits."

The house is obviously a home and has been carefully looked after and maintained. It is equipped with everything you could wish for - and more - and the views are mesmerising. There’s a fairly steep descent down to the water but at each level there are decks with tables and seating - so much to see and do in the area but hard to tear yourself away. We were so lucky with the weather but in poor weather it would probably be lovely to cosy up and watch the elements! We only have one little niggle, it’s a bit tricky to find the house in spite of the directions as there’s only one little sign outside. We kept driving past especially when coming from Menai Town, easier from Beaumaris (delightful yachting town). Perhaps a larger sign somewhere would help but it’s only a tiny point. It’s a long long drive for we Londoners and family from Hampshire but we all want to return. Can’t praise this place highly enough. Thank you.

We found it hard to tear ourselves away from the stunning views of the Menai Straits. The house has all you need for a restful stay, especially the very comfortable beds. We loved the way the house retained features of its obviously glamorous past. I pressed the bell but sadly no servants appeared!
