  • "This is the most beautiful cottage, with the most wonderful views."

It has everything you could wish for and more. The attention to the small details shows that the owners really care that you have a fantastic holiday. From the fully equipped kitchen, to the luxury bedding and super comfy beds, to the secret garden and fresh flowers on your bedside table! It is an old cottage and so full of character but please note if you have mobility problems there are a lot of stairs. However this did not detract one jot from our enjoyment. Jacqueline and Richard were so helpful and we appreciated the welcome pack especially the prosecco!! :-) They even arranged the sunny weather for our weeks stay! Many thanks xx

  • "We would highly recommend a stay at tros yr afon."

Jackie was an excellent host from the point of booking to when we left and sent us a very useful app after booking with all the info we needed before and after our stay. The house itself is beautiful, it has wonderful views over the straits to snowdonia beyond. The house is very comfortable, and well equipped especially for children. We have a 3 and 5 year old and there were loads of toys to keep them entertained. We look forward to staying again in the future!

  • "Well what an experience!"

! From the moment we walked in to Tros Yr Afon we knew it was special. It is a beautifully and tastefully presented home that goes without saying. But it is much much more It is a sanctuary, a place set apart filled with love. We could all actually feel it. The atmosphere is incredible. Tros is so peaceful and comfortable it’s like a giant hug. Jackie and Richard are the most amazing hosts ever! Nothing is too much trouble - from the flowers by the beds to the goodies in the kitchen, the books , games . DVDs , the fantastic beds , pillows and linen Everything you could possibly want or need is here. They really do go the extra mile thank you Jackie and Richard. And I am thrilled that they are preserving the old fisherman’s cottage in its original state- it honours the folk who lived loved and worked here all those years ago. The secret garden too just magical. It has a wonderful atmosphere and deep serenity and peace can be found in its wild beauty. The sense of history is palpable and the whole place has been sensitively cherished. We loved sitting in the window seat with a good book when the rain poured! And doing yoga as the sun came up from over the mountains was a total joy. To stay at Tros Yr Afon is such a huge privilege, it fed us body and soul and gave us precious family memories. Jackie and Richard we cannot thank you enough. We found it hard to leave and we are already looking forward to returning. Thank you so so much. Xx The Wright family

The property

Tros Yr Afon, a Grade II-listed Georgian cottage in Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey, is ideally located for outstanding views.

With period features, two gardens to choose from, and thoughtfully created with families in mind, this house makes an excellent base from which to explore this picturesque region of North Wales.

As you arrive at the cottage, you will be greeted with off-road parking and breathtaking views of the sea and mountains.

Drop your bags and make a cup of tea before admiring the scenery; the front yard is well-kept and suitable for alfresco dining with an unrivalled backdrop and a  wilder garden with at the back of the property gives a pleasant space for the youngsters to play while you gain some shade on hotter days.

Inside, a delightful playroom continues the fun with a variety of age-appropriate toys, which the owners generously swap out between visitors, and a Smart TV to keep the kids entertained.

The character then moves on to the kitchen/diner, where the group's chef may prepare a home-cooked meal for the family to eat at the dining table for six.

Ascend the classic wooden staircase next and relax in front of the coal fire; the living room is conveniently located on the first floor to take advantage of the expansive mountain and sea views, making it the ideal site for a relaxed day after a leisurely stroll.

Once your eyes tire, retire to the bedrooms for some well-deserved rest; a twin for your group's children is on the first floor, as is a bright and airy king-size that, once again, takes advantage of its location, allowing you to wake up to seascape and craggy mountaintops.

Having returned to the ground floor, the last bedroom, a super-king-size, lets in plenty of light through the French doors, providing the lucky guests in this room with another lovely wakeup to the Menai Strait!

Visit the surrounding region and fill up on necessities at local shops, boutiques, and bakeries.

Go out on foot to discover Beaumaris's charms, such as the magnificent Beaumaris Castle and historic pier.

Penmon Point provides the best view of Penmon Lighthouse and the charming Puffin Island, as well as going past the ruins of a priory and fuelling up at The Pilot House Cafe.

Further afield, Anglesey's coastline spans for miles and provides a variety of watersports, with beaches and outcrops strewn along the way; why not explore by bike or car and venture out a little further?

A bike tour with Green Lane Bike Tours is the ideal day out.

Returning to the mainland, the Snowdonia National Park offers a plethora of outdoor activities in a picture-perfect environment for your travels.

Whether you prefer to stay in and spend time with your family or discovering the stunning Isle of Anglesey, Tros Yr Afon is the perfect base.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

BEAUMARIS

Menai Bridge 4 miles.

Beaumaris is a well known historic town on the Isle of Anglesey situated on the Menai Strait and overlooking the Snowdonia mountain range, making for the most stunning of sunrises. With its medieval castle (now a World Heritage site) dating back to the reign of Edward I and its Victorian pier, gaol and courthouse, it is also known as a major centre for yachting. Beaumaris is rich in history and retains much of its medieval street pattern. It’s setting, diversity of architectural styles and periods, differing scale, open spaces, varying roofs and overall quality contribute greatly to the town’s character. There is a good selection of shops, restaurants and public houses, as well as fishing opportunities and boat trips in the town, plus a golf course nearby. Along the coast is a large bay called Red Wharf Bay; its Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets. The bay is very shallow and at low tide, almost 25 square kilometres (10 sq. mi.) of sand is uncovered providing safe bathing, perfect for wonderful family fun, fishing and miles of stunning scenic walks. Further afield is the port of Holyhead, which has regular ferry links to Dublin. Beaumaris is a good central base for touring Wales, in a beautiful location on the south coast of the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, within easy reach of the spectacular mountains of Snowdonia.
