  • "The cottage was lovely, warm and comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay."

The bedroom is a bit cramped but that wasn't a problem to us. We were there in February and would love to come again in summer so we could enjoy sitting out on the south facing patio.

  • "Really enjoyed stay a quirky property which was warm and completely adequate."

Very refined space in bedroom so wouldn’t suit some. Stables very close and fine with us “pet” horse Barney part of the story and wanders about freely. In full control of electricity supply by inputting same £1 in meter. Val the owner very friendly and available if required. Great base for exploring Anglesey.

  • "Our main memory of this cottage is the overwhelming sense of relief we felt on leaving(early)!"

The cottage is damp throughout and unfit to live in. The stale smell mentioned by guests recently is not down to dogs but due to dampness having penetrated all the soft furnishings. When the damp got into even our unused clothes we had had enough. We are in our 70's and have had cottages from Sykes' for many years and have never experienced anything like this. The owner does admit that the cottage is damp but claims it is only a small patch. In fact most of the internal walls to a height of 3 feet or so are wet to the touch. Previous guests have listed the many faults at this property which are caused by inadequate maintenance. Before any further visitors are sent may we respectfully request that the cottage be independently inspected and remedial work carried out. This was our only break this year and we feel cheated. If it is apparent that no action results from this and similar reviews then we will not hire from Sykes again.

  • "This cottage was not what we expected."

Firstly dog friendly does not mean dog ready, we had to leave are dogs on the leads for alot of the stay as the property was not secure all the gates were bar gates evenn the on e to the main Rd. The others were to fields and paddocks with horses in them. We had to watch our dogs 24/7 incase the wandered into the horse field or went out to the rd. So not relaxing atall. Then the cottage itself ...all the doors in to it were very difficult to open as they scrapped on the floorings especially the kitchen door(main). Then the TV described as sky in the blurb was freesat and the remotes didn't work properly. There was only a high level shelf to put our clothes on and hang from. And this, was mounted on one side of the bed that you had th duck under to get in and out of bed. The bathroom!!!Well were do you start the floor was lifting and water damaged due to a leak we believe was still on the bath overflow as we had a big puddle at bathtime. The tiles around the bath were all coming away, literally if you knocked one the row would come off. There was no rubber seal on the shower screen , so the water would end up on the floor. There was mould on shower tiles and 4 inches of the wall near floor. The t.rail had burnt out the stat at some point so they just taped it up and left it permanently on full(major fire hazard). All the garden furniture was extremely weathered and the garden was in need of amw and weed, and the main garden light did not work. The carpet in the lounge even though the cottage allowed dogs was very dirty, it needed a major shampoo. The lounge definitely would be described as tired even the couch wasn't over comfortable...Not a good and pleasant stay.

  • "Lovely location to explore Angelsea, although the cottage could do with an upgrade."

Val the owner made herself available to us immediately as we arrived. Unfortunately, we did needed to clean the walls/beamed areas we could reach as there were lots of long standing cobwebs/spiders. Not good when you are agoraphobic but can be kept on top of with regular dusting. We did find mould on the shower head and tiles in bathroom which we managed to clean most off. The bedding is in need of an upgrade. The guest beds upstairs were not usable and the cottage itself has an overall stale odour. The garden area has changed a lot since the photos on holiday let site. You can catch the sun in the mornings but the trees provide lots of shade on the patio area. The furniture shown in pics is longer available, although there are 2 rattan effect set of chairs and small table now. We did almost step into pony manure on our first day and we noticed the ponies were put to pasture in the guest garden area one day, so that would explain. The ponies were cute and friendly. The resident dog paid daily visits and he was a friendly guy but there was various dog mess in the upper part of the garden, which put us off sitting there in the sun. Overall, we were disappointed with our stay and cut our holiday short, although lots of positive comments in the guest book. It was just not for us and needs some TLC and good housekeeping.

  • "Val was an amazing host."

She is friendly and on hand for any questions or information about the area. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable self catering stay. The garden area is full of wildlife and sheltered enough that the strong ocean breeze doesn't affect you sitting outside. There are extra blankets and comfortable seats to rest on after a day of exploring. The log fire is very efficient and burns so well that there are few ashes to clean up in a morning. There are a wide range of shops all within a 10 minute drive. We found the cottage to be in a good central location and visited all sides of the island. Each coast is within a 40 minute drive. People are very friendly and the area is full of history. This was an informative and peaceful first visit to Anglesey and can't wait to return to visit Val and Prince.

Ideally situated for exploring the Island. Val the owner is a lovely lady and make you feel very welcome and ready to share her knowledge of Angelsey. Nice cove/ beach a short drive away ideal for paddle boarding, swimming etc. An enjoyable stay.

This will be shared with the property owner. This cottage is in need of much work and is not as described .The garden is shared with owners very large dog that likes to poo everywhere. The cottage is unclean and smelly it needs much work doing to bring it up to the advertised pictures. I feel sorry for anyone paying hard earned money to stay here.

  • "Generally, a very nice place to stay in a good location."

The only issue was with the odour presumably from previous visitors having dogs to stay, which remained quite strong on the rug and furniture in the sitting room. The kitchen needed some inventory items renewing as some items were now in a basic condition such as pans to cook with and not having a sharp knife to use etc. Other than that it was a very pleasant place to stay with a nice host living nearby

A bottle of milk would have been appreciated. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped for two people and the seating area is comfortable. However the bedroom is not really big enough for a double bed with very little room either side and the mattress definitely needs replacing. We had to live out of our suitcases in the living room. The patio outside the property is spacious with plenty of seating which was very pleasant in the evenings.

About the location

LLANEILIAN

Amlwch 2 miles; Moelfre 7 miles.

A scattered, rural village situated close to the cliffs of Point Lynas and the little bay of Porth Eilian, on the beautiful north coast of Anglesey. Llaneilian stands amidst lovely countryside, which is perfect for scenic walks and cycle rides, but is perhaps best known for its lighthouse built in 1835, and its small, attractive shingle and sand beach, which is sheltered by cliffs and headland making it perfect for swimming, boating, fishing and other water sports. Just 2 miles west is the old port of Amlwch, the most northerly town in Wales, and Parys Mountain, where visitors can enjoy the Copper Mine Trail Walk amidst the old ruins of what was once the world's largest copper mine in the 18th century. Amlwch's harbour dates back to the Middle Ages and once was a thriving port. There is excellent fishing and golf nearby as well as beautiful sandy beaches and spectacular cliff top walks. Enjoy the medieval town of Beaumaris, with its 13th century moated castle, museums, excellent shops, pubs and restaurants, take a day trip into Snowdonia or visit Dublin from the nearby port of Holyhead.
