  • "Lovely little hut in a beautiful location, amazing views amazing places to go on Holyhead."

The beach that's a 5 min drive away is brilliant for a swim with public bathroom and bins. Lovely owner very friendly and helpful, not that I didn't need anything much.

  • "Gwyneth was fab and came to check whether we needed anything but also gave us privacy, she left me a lovely voicemail after we had checked out after our stay."

The location was perfect as we wanted to be tucked away in the Welsh countryside, but close enough to towns/beaches so we could keep our options open. The hut had everything we needed, I think if I could give any feedback it would be to maybe have a small microwave in there. I know space is limited so this may not be possible, but if you’re not eating out it can limit food options. Other than that we were really happy and the microwave wouldn’t be a deal breaker! We would definitely come back. Thank you, Gwyneth x

  • "Really enjoyable week once again, having previously stayed in the other Shepherds Hut on the site - preferred this one for the addition of a bit of wardrobe space and less visibility of the access road."

Great location to explore the scenery and read a book. Enjoyed the wood fire but definitely had to keep opening the window with the heat - very efficient! Great week and will be coming back in the future.

Our host Gwyneth was a joy, careing and could not do enough for us. Loved every moment of our stay, the woodburner gave a extra cozy feeling, but you only need 1 log as the hut warms very quickly. The views and sunsets were memorable. Only negative was being sad to leave!!

  • "We had a lovely week at the shepherds hut."

Location was perfect, right on the doorstep of the RSPB reserve, South Stack Lighthouse, and Holyhead Mountain. Views are amazing, and the hut was cosy. Gwyneth is a lovely lady, nothing too much trouble, and even offered us an extra night free of charge, as housekeeping were not coming until the following day! Three adorable little donkeys were in the nearby field, we took them treats of carrots and apples. We would definitely recommend this for a stay on the beautiful island of Anglesey, and we will be returning soon!

Great location overlooking the bay with views of gorgeous sunsets. Despite its size, the property has everything you need and certainly doesn’t feel too small. We absolutely loved it, and had a fantastic week, both relaxing at the shepherds hut, and exploring the various bays, nowhere is very far away. Lovely owner who was happy to help.

The Shepherds hut has all the amenities necessary for one or two people to holiday in comfort. The views are outstanding and when not out exploring the island it's nice to just spend a day sitting outside and admiring them. We have stayed at the huts on four occasions and will do so again.

The accommodation is compact and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners were so welcoming and friendly and shared their local knowledge of places to visit, walking trails, what's on etc. Thank you for the "basics" provided - tea, coffee, milk, water, biscuits. The sunsets were spectacular and the night sky beautiful without light pollution. I spent the days exploring and the evenings sat on the deck soaking up the peace, quiet and ever changing scenery. I will definitely be back.

  • "The wonderful total isolation, the stunning views, the natural environment and watching the wildlife - mainly birds some quite rare like the choughs sitting outside in family groups in the field next to the Shepherd's Hut."

A delight to wake up to the sounds of cows, sheep and birds. Definitely a place to 'stand and stare'. You need binoculars to benefit most from this; amazingly a small pair were provided. For the delights of a true dark sky I benefitted from having my own binoculars. Zero light pollution. Zero any pollution. Glorious skies but especially at sunrise and sunset. Loved the isolation from other people and especially not having any WiFi and only very occasional signals i.e. 3G and 4G. A real digital detox. Many lovely walks in the area, and some even quite challenging like Holy Mountain but all perfectly safe for a woman - of a certain age! - on her own. Very generous and hospitable proprietor/farmer. Perfect accommodation for anyone needing to escape the mayhem and madness of modern city life. Easy to get to - London to Holyhead by train - no car - just shank's pony! Ideal escape to reboot the system. Thank you.

About the location

HOLYHEAD

Trearddur Bay 3 miles.

The bustling town of Holyhead rests on the North West coast of the Isle of Anglesey, the largest town on the island and perhaps known best for being the main ferry port to Ireland. Steeped in history, the town boasts the remains of Roman town walls and forts, medieval burial chambers and stone village foundations. Explore the Breakwater Country Park, a former quarry, which offers designated walks through the grounds. The park is full of interesting wildlife, most notably the seals who visit the Holyhead coast, and outlines the amazing construction of the world's longest breakwater, some 1.8 miles, which today protects the harbour. Visit the colourful marina with its yachts and tall ships, or the town's maritime museum, with its tales of 100 shipwrecks in the vicinity. Day trips to Ireland can be enjoyed easily from here, with Dublin just 90 minutes away on the fast ferry. With spectacular cliff top walks over Holyhead Mountain, golden sandy beaches at the award winning Trearddur Bay and the Snowdonia National Park just a 20 minute drive away, this is a superb holiday location, at any time of the year.
