  • "We had a great stay with family for Christmas at Dolwaenydd."

Beautiful scenery, lovely decor and very clean and welcoming. Extra touches like Christmas decorations and chocolates in the stockings at the end of every bed went above and beyond. The only issue was we had payed the extra supplement for the hot tub but unfortunately it wasn’t turned on for the start of our stay, so we had to notify Menai holidays the next day. The hot-tub takes 24 hours to heat up to temperature so all in all we lost a few days. Once it was ready to use we then had a power cut which started overnight and went into the next afternoon so the hot tub went cold again. So we feel that we didn’t really get the full use of it which was especially disappointing for the teenagers in the group.

Thank you for your lovely feedback I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I am sorry the hot tub was not ready for your arrival I am following this up with Menai who did not informmis of your booking. Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic stay at this property!"

The property was clean throughout and was very large and well equipped. On arrival we had hot tub towels aswell as normal ones, coffee pods and many other staples. Little things such as fire sticks in the TVs and Ethernet ports at the TVs are a nice touch. Internet was good at the property with around 80mbs. The hot tub kept temperature well, just a shame it couldn’t be manually changed as when windy it could feel colder than on milder nights. The garden was well kept and was a nice size, our bearded collie and cocker spaniel had a lot of fun playing with each other out there. Property overall was of great spec and I would recommend staying here.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope we can welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The house is wonderful."

It was perfect for what we needed. The beds were comfy, the linen was clean and good quality as were the sofas. Sadly the level of cleanliness was nothing short of shocking and disappointing. BATHROOOMS - The toilets has not been cleaned, the sinks were dirty - showers weren't too bad. The floors had not been hoovered and mopped behind the doors. Loads of hair present. The property evidently lacked a serious deep hoover/clean under beds, behind and under other items of furniture such as sofas and tables. There were loads cobwebs, reallly dusty curtain poles, the kitchen surfaces still had the previous guests toast crumbs on, the doors are dirty around the handles, the drawers and cupboards needed a good wipe inside, the baking trays were really bad - not nice having to cook food on at all. Honestly, the level the of cleanliness really tainted our stay and left all 8 of us feeling very disappointed. Sykes Cottages customer service replies would benefit from being less 'auto reply' and more personal to each customers complaints and issues raised.

I am really disappointed to hear that the cleanliness of the property was not up to our usual high standards. I totally understand the importance of this and will address the issues raised. I believe that you met one of the housekeeping team on the first morning of your stay. Had you mentioned your concerns to her then we could have been happy to rectify the situation immediately as we strive to address any issues at the time of the stay. Property Owner

The rear aspect of the fields kept us occupied by looking for the cows. A relaxing place and we felt refreshed - just as it should be. As the weather was unseasonably warm we needed no heating on but you can tell this would be a very cosy place to be in winter. Highly recommended

Got used to the Rayburn cooker, which was a nice novelty. Great garden for our 3 year old and 2 dogs to run around in. There are some great walks and stunning beaches around, of course. Daily cow parade was fun to watch too. Take everything you need for kitchen and bathrooms, like bin bags, toilet/kitchen rolls etc. Shop near by that sells everything.

  • "Although this was our first stay at Dolwaenydd, we know this small development very well as we have previously stayed at Trefwri on a number of occasions before it was sold."

So we knew about the stunning views and the extensive garden space and terrace but even the gallery of photographs didn't prepare us for the comfort and renewed stylishness of the upstairs and downstairs accommodation. And everyone loved cooking in the very well equipped kitchen including becoming acquainted with the Rayburn! We are already planning a repeat fortnight in 2024. Thank you Helen & Tom for making your beautiful holiday home available.

Or clearly state that it will be cold on the first night, especially in winter. 3 half rolls of toilet paper for 6 adults for 3 days and nights is hardly enough, and I would not recommend the local takeaway it is absolutely terrible! But other than than absolutely lovely xx

The only two gripes I had were that the outside lighting could do with an upgrade and with regards the hot tub I would have liked to have been able to alter the temperature to my preference. If I had known that the tub was set to a constant 38’ I probably wouldn’t have booked the property (I prefer them at 40’ it does make a difference) apart from that we loved the property and the views

  • "Dolwaenydd was a lovely place, very peaceful, exceptionally comfortable especially the beds."

There was plenty of room for all the family and for the children to play. We did have a few issues firstly, the hot tub was not opened for us on arrival. This was not the owners fault but Sykes. We found the BBQ was left in a state of not being able to cook on it until it was cleaned along with a frying pan also. We were left with no cleaning equipment (the door was locked) If it wasn't for the lady that did the garden and hot tub who found a dust pan and brush for us we would have had nothing, she also kept the owner updated on the issues. Apart from this we all had a brilliant time and said it was the best accommodation we have stayed in since coming to Anglesey as a family. We look forward to coming again soon.

I am so sorry about the issues you had with Menai which I have been following up. I am really glad that you enjoyed the house and it didn’t spoil your holiday. I hope we will be able to welcome you back again Property Owner

The property had everything we needed and more and beautifully decorated. The hot tub was great, with amazing sunset views in the evening. The garden was perfect for the children and dogs, huge lawn and enclosed so the dogs couldn't escape. Lawn games, BBQ and even wind breakers for the beach are all provided in the outhouse. The beds were comfortable, the living room was so cosy with the log burner on for relaxing and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you could need for cooking. Rayburn oven was a nice touch. The sun room was a lovely room to spend time in, and was where the children based most of their time. Would highly recommend and will definitely return for another holiday!

The place was lovely but we could have done with a brush and mop considering we had the dog with us. Hot tub went murky don't know why this happen tried to contact Sykes but gave up after being on hold for 40 mins.

I apologise for the state of the barbeque as stated on n the listing it is usually only available by prior arrangement and we would have been able to get it prepared for you with fuel. As it is early in the season this had not yet been organised. Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately myself and other family members were unable to go on this stay due to Covid."

We requested to rearrange the booking 5 days prior to our stay and were happy to pay the additional cost of moving the booking, however our request was declined and we were told we either had to cancel the trip without a refund, or travel with covid, which was illegal according to the restrictions in Wales at the time. Unfortunately, this meant that some of the family had to go without us, which was very frustrating, especially as the request was not last minute. The family that were able to go on the holiday shared the following feedback about the cottage: The cottage itself was lovely, cosy and clean. You have to book the hot tub separately. When we booked, it was not clear how to do this so we contacted Menai Holidays who advised they hadn't received any information from owners about how to book the hot tub. Eventually they got back to us and we paid the additional fee (£200). The hot tub was nice but unfortunately it is placed right next to a public footpath so anyone using the path walks right by you. It does not feel private. This is not detailed in the listing and had we been aware, we probably would not have paid the additional fee. Overall, the cottage was lovely and the location was great, however due to the booking process not being clear and inflexibility in rearranging meaning that half the family were unable to go on the holiday, we would not book again and can't recommend unfortunately.

I am very sorry that we were unable to accommodate your request to change your booking this was because the booking was for a short stay and we only take weekly bookings between April and October. The hot tub had only recently been fitted and I apologise for the confusion with its booking. The location of the hot tub is beside a footpath which is very rarely used and is positioned to take advantage of the beautiful views and sunsets Property Owner

The cottage is comfortable, homely and has everything you need. The garden is large and great for the dog to play, despite some heavy rain it was never muddy or water logged. It’s a shame there isn’t a gate near to the front to make the garden secure. The owners left us a gorgeous hampers with chocolates and fizz, a lovely touch. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend and stay again.

Thank you for your lovely feedback we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are pleased to announce that smart new gates have now been fitted to fully enclose the garden and we hope we can welcome you back soon. Property Owner

Every room was nice and clean. It was well stocked with everything you might need to use especially utensils in the kitchen. The furniture was beautiful and everything down to the mugs and cutlery are of very good quality. The views surrounding the cottage are exquisite, especially the sunset of an evening. Just a minute or two drive around the corner offers spectacular views of Snowdonia. The heating worked well and there are TVs, Amazon sticks in most rooms. The only small problem was the smell of oil coming from the Aga which could get quite strong. It did ease with ventilation. This did affect the bedroom above too. Lovely stay at the cottage though.

  • "The cottage was exceptionally situated with wonderful views and stunning sunsets."

It was peaceful but not isolated and areas of interest were easily accessible from the cottage. The cottage itself was beautiful internally and very comfortable. There were also some lovely extra touches, for example the most wonderful welcome pack and cosy woollen blankets. The Rayburn cooker was amazing for cooking food and a joy to use. The facilities were excellent and the beds very comfortable. One point to note is that one bedroom requires ventilating before use (opening the windows) as the oil for the Rayburn could be smelt in the room but with ventilation this eased. - Just something to be mindful of. The garden is superb, it’s not totally enclosed, but it’s large and our collie had the time of his life doing laps around the perimeter. It was also a pleasant area to sit and enjoy the views and sunsets from. There was also a fabulous bbq available for use. Everything about the cottage was ‘quality’ and the whole stay was really enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
