  • "The cottage and the location were perfect for us."

We were a party of 7 including two young children. It was spacious, had character and included a large fenced garden in an open country setting. Ideal for the children to play safely within the confines of the property. Penmon Point is nearby and there is a stunning walk over the hills to get there. We would definitely love to stay there again at some point. The only point I would make in general about being restricted to school holiday bookings is the hike in price compared to other dates in the calendar. This is obviously travel/holiday industry wide and clearly not unique to this particular property but nevertheless it does grate to have to pay a significant premium to be able to take children on holiday.

  • "A stunning property with stunning views, perfectly placed and ideal for our half marathon/50th birthday celebratory weekend."

Loved the incredible layout downstairs and outside and all 8 adults thought it was incredibly special. Adult couples are always going to prefer double beds and en-suites so the 2 twin rooms make it a little tricky but the big double bath and general wow factor of the place was the payoff. Very happy

  • "Thankyou so much."

We all loved our winter stay in your holiday home. It was perfect for the family. Very clean and well presented. Amazing views and perfect piece on the hillside with nothing but the local neighbouring cattle, sheep and gulls to disturb the country silence. Great local walks and windswept coastal muddy trecks. The stove a welcome treat to return home to. We will definitely return. Jason, Jenia & family.

  • "This is a great house in a superb location and the views over the Menai Straits are sublime, and in a very quiet location with a fascinating history."

However for a group of 8 adults looking forward to a family Christmas break there were a number of disappointing aspects that sadly let down our overall experience. All the bedrooms were missing lampshades which seemed baffling, and the kitchen was missing a number of basic essentials such as ice trays, decent sized chopping boards, a cafetière, enough mats to protect the table, only one egg-cup and combined with the bear minimum amount of crockery from the bargin bin at Ikea; which all let down what could have been a real 5 star holiday cottage.

  • "Barracks cottage is set in a stunning location and the property itself exceeded expectations."

We were very lucky with the weather and had a gorgeous week so did not take full advantage of all the rooms within the property but if the weather was to be bad there is plenty of room. There is now a washing line and air dryer in the property which was a big help to get our beach towels dry. I would definitely recommend this property and hope to book again for 2023.

  • "Probably one of the best cottages we/I have ever stayed in."

It wasn't just the cottage itself, but the breathtaking views from the full length windows in the kitchens - the sea and then the mountains - that made this very special. A very unique place.

Beautiful surroundings to walk and explore. The views are amazing! Hopefully we’ll be back!

  • "With young children would have been useful if there was a washing line Also grass had not been cut so there were hundreds of bees on the clover , meaning we had a few bee stings from walking on grass in bare feet!"

We are not anti bees, but on holiday with young children it was a problem. Would definitely return ,Lovely views etc

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Barracks Cottage."

It is in an amazing position overlooking the sea and so sitting outside taking in the views, provided us with time just to relax and get to know the local wildlife - pheasants and rabbits). It is within easy reach of Penmon lighthouse (short walk), where there is also a very lovely cafe. The facilities were great, though admittedly the TV did not function as it should (but we don't always go on holiday to watch TV). It is close to Beaumaris and all other parts of the island, in the car, but enables you to return to an oasis of peace and quiet. It was a lovely week which enabled us to recharge our batteries.

  • "Wonder property in a wonderful location."

Beware if visiting Penmon Point itself as full of overnight campers, 21 to be exact, although not permitted! spoiling the most amazing view for visitors.

  • "Great place to stay and all as described."

Only small comment is that for a place that sleeps 8, maybe good to have a couple more cooking pans. What was there was sufficient, but if people wanted to cook separate dishes at same time could be short. Also, might be worth thinking about a second TV in the big room. Sometimes different generations want to watch different programmes at same time.

  • "The location of the cottage is wonderful and the views incredible."

The house itself is spacious and welcoming. The big kitchen windows with views kitchen and the log burner were a treat and really enhanced our experience here.....morning coffee gazing over the straits and evening drinks cosied by the fire. Whilst we didn’t watch much tv, it would be good to have one in the main living room so you can watch a film curled up by the fire. As the area is wonderful for walks and the garden is fenced well to keep our sheep, it would be great if one small well-behaved dog was allowed to visit and enjoy the walks. We loved Barracks Cottage and can’t wait to return. The history behind its renovation makes it all the more special - as does the 1 mile walk to Penmon Point for beach, Puffin Island and an ice cream! Thank you.

  • "Barracks Cottage is an amazing place."

Enjoyed the spacious feel of the house throughout and the amazing views from the house and grounds. It was really peaceful and tranquil there and amazing to see the stars at night in a clear sky. Sat nav tells you that you are there before you are so need to carry on driving for a few minutes. Would be useful to have some solar light sign showing "Barracks Cottage" as difficult to see existing sign in the dark. Definitely need solar light by key box at rear of property as difficult to see in the dark .Really enjoyed our stay in Anglesey and would definitely recommend Barracks Cottage.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Barracks, a very special place, with outstanding views, we enjoyed the location with a short journey to Penmon beach and the Pilot Cafe and a equally short car journey into Beaumaris, we wandered down to the Priory in the evenings, which is very beautiful and finished by enjoying G&T’s catching the last of the light and the views at the front of the house, would absolutely stay here again."

(Our two year old had a great time here and it felt very safe both in terms of location and outdoor play.)

  • "House is amazing we really enjoyed our stay."

The standard is fantastic. What we loved: The space Quality of furnishings The views! The surrounding sheep The privacy The house is to die for really did love it and would book again. Constructive feedback: The tv in the little sitting room is not great. On the wet and cold days a movie night together would have been great but there is no tv in the large living area. Invest in sky tv and a better music system we could not get that to work at all WiFi is shocking and needs addresses or at least publishing. My husband was working from home and was confined to the small sitting room We don’t usually care for tv on holiday but when weather is poor and wales in lockdown this should really be considered for families with kids The ask to bag up all the linen and towells etc would be reasonable except for the fact you’ve asked us to be for 10. It should be 12 when you expect us to have a good clean first. Finally, there is so much space for a hot tub? We would pay for to stay there with a hot tub i really don’t understand why the owner hasn’t put one in?

  • "House very good - contacted owner once re a fuse issue and he was very friendly."

No "guide" in house therefore no idea about bins - when and were to put out or what day. Leak from under washing machine when used. Tried to contact yourselves regarding the above - was on hold for 15 minutes so gave up. Previous used you three times but service has deteriorated following move to Chester. Would need a lot of convincing to use yourselves again i am afraid.

  • "This is a beautiful house in a wonderful peaceful location."

The weather wasn't great but we were able to sit and eat out a number of times (yes there's garden furniture not shown on the website). Lots of lovely local walks, especially down to the lighthouse, and an easy drive to Beaumaris. You definitely need a car though as there's no public transport nearby. We were there with our 3 adult children, their partners and 2 babies and there was plenty of space and privacy for all. Two very minor niggles: the shower in the family bathroom is over the bath so not very practical for the adult guests in the 2 non-ensuite bedrooms (it was difficult to keep the floor dry), and the mattresses are very firm which some liked and some didn't! But we loved the house and would certainly consider returning. The owner was very helpful too in answering our questions.

The property

This is a delightful holiday cottage located in a stunning position.

Overlooking Penmon Priory in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Barracks Cottages has impressive views towards Snowdonia and across the Menai Strait.

To have both the mountains and sea in sight will be hard view to top in any other holiday cottage! The renovation with all the modern comforts makes this an excellent holiday cottage to stay in.

With a modern kitchen that you can watch the sunrise over the mountains in the morning, there is ample dining space in the same room for the evening time.

Through to the sitting room with three large sofas around a wood burning stove, it’s the perfect place to kick back and relax after a day out.

There is also a second dining table in the sitting room.

There is a small snug at the end of the house with a TV to hide away after a long meal in the kitchen.

On the ground floor there is a cloakroom with loo & wash basin. Upstairs are four bedrooms all together.

The first is a double room with king size bed and ensuite.

The ensuite to the double room has a shower, loo and wash hand basin.

There is also a further double bedroom and a twin bedroom.

Lastly, there’s a twin room with an ensuite which has a shower loo and wash hand basin. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over, loo and wash basin. Outside is a generous garden which is mainly lawn with ample parking for 6+ cars.

There is short rough track to drive to the cottage.

You can walk the Anglesey Coastal Footpath past the Priory up to Blackrock Point, make sure you look out for Penmon lighthouse and Puffin Island.

There is also a pebble beach with a local cafe serving all the delights you need to keep you happy.

Beaumaris is a 10 minute drive away, and has a selection of independent shops, bars, restaurants and galleries as well as Beaumaris castle.

A village that’s a must to visit.

Barrack’s Cottage is located in a position with stunning views, plenty of fabulous walks and a short drive to a bustling town.

The owner has brought Barrack’s Cottage back from a ruined Quarryman’s Barracks to how you see it today.

Even the detail of the bell tower being restored from the stone at Penmon Quarry is a delight to see.

We think it was used to que dinner time or chime for the end of shift.
