Henblas Estate Cottages

Malltraeth 3 miles. Two unique character cottages located in extensive grounds, comprising of mature woodland and carefully tended gardens, close to the owners’ home, on the edge of the hamlet of Llangristiolus, three miles from Malltraeth and around five miles from the popular coastal villages of Aberffraw and Newborough, on the South coast of Anglesey. These two charming cottages retain many original features dating back to the 17th century and are preserved by a Grade II* listing to ensure they are kept secure for future generations. Set around a large central courtyard and both accessed up external steps, they offer all the usual home comforts that you would expect from a quality holiday cottage. There is ample parking in the courtyard, away from the owners’ home, and you have your own private garden table at which you can sit and relax in the peace and tranquillity of the area. You are also welcome to explore the owners’ 8 acres of delightful gardens, which host a charity open weekend once a year, and woodlands with red squirrels, snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells. Within the grounds is an enclosed paddock, which provides an excellent opportunity for children to play safely and dogs to exercise in freedom. Superb sandy beaches can be reached in a short drive, and the red squirrel woodland at Newborough Forest offers some beautiful unspoilt walks with access onto Newborough Warren, where you can sit and watch wind and kite surfers skim across the bay for hours on end. In the opposite direction, the Anglesey circuit is easily reached within 15 minutes’ drive for racing enthusiasts and day spectators to enjoy the thrill of the track. Two excellent holiday homes with plenty to see and do within easy reach.

The property

Set in a central courtyard and attached to the owners’ home, yet still very private, this pretty 17th century granary is accessed up external stone steps and once inside you will find a cosy, welcoming holiday home.

The kitchen is modern and practical, with a lovely dining area located in the open plan living area, which benefits from a gabled roof and character oak beams.

One internal step leads up to the bedrooms with a snug twin room with 2’ 6” single beds and a pretty double bedroom, both sharing a family bathroom with bath and shower over.

Outside there is a patio table on the courtyard for guests personal use, along with access to the delightful gardens on the estate.

About the location

MALLTRAETH

Newborough 2 miles; Rhosneigr 8 miles.

The small village of Malltraeth lies in the south west corner of Anglesey, at the head of the long inlet formed by the Cefni Estuary and close to the popular Newborough Forest and Warren sand dunes. Malltraeth Pool and the magnificent sweep of marshes and sand dunes, which stretch south to Llanddwyn Island, are all part of a National Nature Reserve. The whole area is renowned for its birdlife and Malltraeth was once home to the famous wildlife artist Charles F Tunnicliffe. There are wonderful forest and coastal walks from the village, which has a pub, a cafe serving afternoon tea and a chip shop (also selling basic items/newspapers etc). Close by are beautiful beaches at Llanddwyn (reputedly the 4th best in Britain), Aberffraw, and Cable Bay, or head to Rhosneigr, which is renowned for its all year round watersports facilities.
