  • "A Haven of Peace: Our Cherished Week in Cemaes Bay Our recent stay in Cemaes Bay, Anglesey, Wales, was nothing short of a sanctuary during a profoundly challenging time in our lives."

My wife, daughter, and I sought a serene retreat close to our oncology unit, as my wife is courageously battling terminal illness. Having lived locally for over 20 years, I thought I had seen all the beauty this region had to offer, but Cemaes Bay revealed itself to be a hidden gem that stood apart, offering us solace and breathtaking natural wonders. The wildlife was a source of gentle joy and amazement for us. We were greeted by the sight of dolphins gracefully moving through the water, an experience that filled us with peace and wonder. Birdwatching became a tranquil pastime as we spotted various breeds of seabirds and puffins, each sighting a reminder of life's simple beauties and the resilience of nature. One of the most remarkable aspects of our visit was the clarity of the view during the day. Without the aid of binoculars, the silhouette of the Isle of Man was visible across the horizon on a clear day, offering a spectacular vista that connected us to the broader landscapes of the British Isles. This unobstructed view across the sea was a reminder of the vastness and beauty of the world around us. The coming and going of boats on the horizon became a soothing routine, a testament to the enduring relationship between land and sea. These moments, watching life unfold at its own pace, were reminders of the world's vastness and the preciousness of our time within it. Perhaps most strikingly, the view from our windows was a live painting no television could rival. The dynamic seascape, with its ever-changing moods, colors, and textures, was a constant source of fascination and reflection. It served as a poignant metaphor for our own journey, ever-changing yet beautiful in its complexity. Amidst this natural splendor, Nina, the owner of the property, stood out as a beacon of warmth and thoughtfulness. Her attention to detail and genuine care for her guests' experience added layers of comfort and ease to our stay. Nina has created not just a place to stay but a sanctuary for healing, reflection, and familial bonding. Her kindness and the peaceful embrace of Cemaes Bay gave us a cherished week of tranquility and togetherness. In conclusion, our time in Cemaes Bay was a precious interlude in our lives, offering moments of beauty, peace, and connection amidst the trials of illness. This beautiful seaside retreat, enhanced by Nina's exceptional hospitality, is a testament to the healing power of nature and human kindness. It's a place that has etched itself in our hearts, a tranquil haven we recommend to anyone seeking solace and beauty.

It has taken me some time to think of an appropriate reply to this review. The feeling of peace and being able to almost forget about the trials of life is what initially attracted me to Anglesey - many guests have expressed the same sentiments. Even on first entering the badly neglected cottage many years ago I felt completely relaxed and I decided somehow to buy it as my bolthole. It has kept me short of money restoring and then maintaining it but I I have no regrets. It’s wonderful when guests feel such an uplifting experience staying there and enjoy the stunning surrounding area. Gary and his family were memorable guests and impressed me with their positive attitudes at such a distressing time. I’m thrilled that they felt the holiday was just what they needed at this time. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and for the comments. You are much appreciated as a guest. You certainly had dramatic weather conditions with Storm Babet arriving in full force of the Friday and thank you for putting the swing seat on the ground before it came! (The Christmas storm of 2021 smashed it to pieces plus gates, an arbour and windbreaks so your checking things for me was a great help). Property Owner

Nina (cottage owner) was extremely helpful and ensured that we had everything we required. Beacon Cottage is very well appointed and it is in an absolutely breathtaking location. The cottage provides everything required for wonderful break in Anglesey. Views from the cottage are outstanding! Anglesey is stunning and Cemaes Bay and village is a hidden jewel. Very chilled. We felt at home there from the moment we arrived and cannot stress how kind and friendly Nina was; making sure we were fully up-to-date on all that Beacon Cottage has to offer. Genuinely kind caring owner. A great time had by all! Thank you Nina and Sykes Cottages.

Thank you for taking time to write such a detailed review. It’s always good to hear that guests have enjoyed their holiday, especially as this year the weather has been unpredictable. Your review has been much appreciated. Property Owner

Beautiful views, we watched the porpoises on Wednesday morning for 1 hour from the dining room window. We spent time in the plesent and enclosed garden. Nina was very helpful and replied quickly to any questions we had about the property. Would definitely return. Lovely quiet bays around the coast. Very peaceful.

How lucky you were to actually be looking out from the cottage when the porpoises arrived, they come regularly but can be easily missed. Such a special experience. I think the peaceful setting as well as the spectacular views are the cottages best selling points, guests should hopefully leave refreshed and invigorated. However for those who want more activity there’s plenty to do. It was good to actually meet you and your family. Also a big thank you for your help, Property Owner

It boasts the most stunning views from every window and has a fabulous dog friendly garden which is a must for our needs. It has a well equipped kitchen and four double bedrooms. This is our sixth stay in Cemaes and out third stay at Beacon. We will return in the years to come.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, it is much appreciated . After having no reviews due to the long closure of the cottage (due to water damage) I was anxious that people looking at the website might wonder why there were a lack of reviews. I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday and yes I do hope you return. Thank you for how you left the cottage - it means a great deal as the changeovers are very time consuming and tiring. Property Owner

  • "Beacon cottage has off road parking for 2 cars."

The enclosed gardens are lovely, well maintained and dog friendly. Partitioned areas are great for relaxing, having a barbecue or sitting by the chiminea. Views from the cottage are superb. You have long distance views of the coastline and it’s wildlife from the gardens and upstairs living area. We saw Razorbill, redshank, oystercatcher, various gull species, ravens and seals in early March. The kitchen, dining room and lounge are all on the 1st floor and provide spectacular sea views in any weather. Sitting upstairs in the warmth while a storm raged outside was a memorable day on our winter visit. The stunning coastal path runs adjacent to the cottage and it’s only a short stroll into the village. It is a great place for sea fishing - within a couple of minutes you can be fishing off the rocks. We caught a salmon and pollack with spinning rods in freezing conditions. Summer must be great for mackerel. The owner was extremely helpful and keen to be ensure our stay went well. We were provided with lots of books, dvds and games as well as tvs in every room. It felt like home from the start. Our holiday at Beacon cottage was a joy. Plenty to do and yet so relaxing. If anyone dislikes this place they shouldn’t go on holiday.

Thank you so much for your detailed review, it gives excellent information as to what can be enjoyed at the cottage particularly on the doorstep so to speak and in ‘ challenging’ weather though I know you still walked, ran and fished. It was good to hear of your catching fish on your first morning, and as you said in your text to me you are not leaving the family for long to fish as there’s no journey involved plus the family can watch whoever is fishing from the dining room window. My son who comes with me to help on the maintenance visits is a keen fisherman and has caught some amazing species even in January. However last visit a large group of dolphins started leaping about where he was fishing and put an end to that tho he was of course thrilled to see them - sadly I missed them! Your interest in bird life was rewarded too which could as you say, be watched from the comfort of the cottage on poor weather days. Your review perfectly describes what a holiday at the cottage can offer. I am most grateful to you for taking the time to write this review. Property Owner

As an owner I’m always anxious that the cottage facilities suit groups as much as possible and the fact that you have now spent four weeks there gives me a feeling of relief. • "We had the most amazing time at this beautiful cottage."

The cottage sits right next to the coastal path with breath taking views across the sea. We found it to be a place of real tranquility and somewhere to escape from the stresses of the real world. The pictures really don't do this properly justice for you to fully appreciate the amazing sea views which you get from every room. It is clear that a lot of love and thought has gone into furnishing this property with quirky little features and reminders of the seaside throughout. Absolutely everything had been thought of and everything you could possibly need provided. We have been staying in holiday cottages across the UK for 13+ years and I have never come across a property owner thoughtful enough to provide electric blankets on all of the beds for the winter months where I can imagine they would be gratefully appreciated, not needed during our stay as we were lucky enough to have some beautiful weather but it was a thoughtful consideration none the less. The property was spotlessly clean and tidy upon arrival with plenty of towels, hand-wash and other basic essentials (toilet rolls, clothes wash, washing up liquid etc) provided. The gardens surrounding the property were very pretty and well maintained with lots of areas leading off from one another giving the place a magical vibe, a bit like a secret garden with different sections to explore and discover. Beacon Cottage is a very short 5 minute walk down to the bay where you can walk across the promenade and take in the beautiful scenery of Cemaes Bay. The pathways from the cottage and across the bay are all flat and paved making this an ideal property for guests with mobility difficulties or guests with walking aids. There is also a lovely pub on the same 5 minute route to the beach called The Stag which is the most northerly pub in Wales and a really nice place to enjoy a pint or two and a good meal. There are so many beautiful places to visit all within 30 minute drive of this property so we found it to be a fantastic location from which to visit Anglesey. Overall this property was an absolute gem and we cannot wait to visit again soon.

What a lovely and informative review of the area as well as the cottage, the local area being as important as the cottage for a successful visit/holiday. I am very greatfull for the thought that has gone into composing this AND the time taken. After another hectic day here at the cottage for maintenance and being mostly a gopher for the tradesmen it was lovely to receive an alert from Sykes about an excellent review. On reading it on my owner portal my reaction was ‘Wow!’ I do try hard to provide a good experience for guests, the cottage sometimes suffers from being badly battered by the sea spray and gales last winter - repairing the damage between guests visits is nerve wracking. Your appreciation, and that of other satisfied guests makes it all worth while. Again, thank you. Property Owner

The outside gates however are difficult to open and close and great care is required to ensure no incidents with Pets. The internal areas are well organized with regard to ,bedrooms, toilets, wash rooms and the Kitchen is extremely useful for all events and food etc is well organised for our group of 8 by using the main floor for eating in a well arranged dinning room on the top floor witch also provides televisions.

Thank you for your feedback and the comment about the gates is helpful. I’m down next week to organise tradespeople and can ask one of them to sort out the problem. I myself had a problem with the double gates at the front but I think because they were new (after the storms smashed the original ones ) the wood ‘settled’ over the weeks between my visits however I did get them fixed on that visit. Yes it’s important pets ( or young children) can’t get out. I’m pleased you found the cottage layout suited you. Your review is appreciated, once again thank you. Property Owner

Clean, comfortable, breathtaking views from every window and so relaxing. Comfortable furniture, lovely cottage feel to the house and it instantly felt like home. The owner kept in touch while we were there to make sure we had everything we needed, and we did. A fully equipped kitchen, lovely bath amd shower rooms, comfortable beds, garden furniture and chiminea which we lit in the evening to toast marshmallows. The gardens are well kept and have several areas to relax and soak up the sun while listening to the waves lapping the shore and birds singing. Cemaes Bay is a quiet village with a few shops and pubs, it is very dog friendly and spotless. A lovely area for walks and not too far away from places of interest. I highly recommend Beacon House and hope to stay there again in the near future. Thank you to Nina for sharing her lovely house with us.

Thank you for taking time to compose and post such a detailed review. It’s uplifting to know you had a good holiday and the cottage ‘suited your needs’. I DO give a lot of thought as to what to provide as the needs of each group of guests can vary a lot. Your review, like other positive ones, gives potential guests looking at the site a more detailed idea of the cottage but also the amazing local area and island. The good reviews also reward me for the time and often stress of maintaining the cottage which is at least 3+ hours drive away and even though I have an excellent housekeeper - I have to visit fairly regularly on changeover days - long drives there and back - short visit before the next guests arrive at 4pm. Greatly appreciated - thank you again. Property Owner

Having the lounge and kitchen upstairs is much better as you have the fantastic sea views from every window. Nina the owner has literally thought of everything you could possibly need in the cottage and is very well equipped. The children loved the reading corner and the vast amount of games and dvds. I must say what a lovely lady Nina is to personally get in touch with us throughout the holiday to make sure everything was ok and also vicky the cleaner who does an amazing job of cleaning the cottage in such a short amount of time in between changeovers. Will definitely be looking to go back next year. Mr and Mrs Shore and family

I’m so glad the cottage suited your needs and you enjoyed your holiday - I’m always relieved when the cottage lives up to guest’s expectations. Cemaes is a lovely village and since they’ve painted the houses different colours down the High Street and gone to town with outside plant tubs and troughs it looks so much more appealing. The five beaches, all different are a bonus - sadly we can’t make promises about the weather! I enjoyed the contact we had via text and thank you for your help re the tv (-it saved me an extra journey being able to collect a new one on the way to the cottage for a Saturday visit). The weather has been perfect, not too hot, considering we had our little dog with us. Nina was very thoughtful & suggested places to visit as we were here, two in particular Penrhoes nature Park, Newborough Forest & the one we had chosen ourselves was Rhosneigr. Chuckled at the comment ‘things we did not know we needed’. Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated and valued. We have so enjoyed staying here, 5 adults, one golden retriever and a 7 month old baby, plenty of room for all, can’t wait to go back!!
