  • "We had a perfect stay at Grisiau'r Afon."

When we arrived the house was super clean and in a great location. We have been to Cemeas many times but have not stayed at this house before but we will definitely be returning. Lovely touch having the fire already ready to go :0) Only suggestion is to have garden furniture on the decking. I know there are some which need to be put together in the laundry room but they were difficult to put together!

  • "Discovered after we had been in this property for about an hour, that the cleaner had not been in."

Dirty bedding and towels in bags on landing, beds unmade, no clean towels. We arrived on Monday 4th October, should have arrived the day before but due to a family problem we were delayed. Tried phoning Sykes and Menai, but recorded voices stating phone problems; tried mobile number of owner, given to us by Sykes, each time it went to voicemail. Fortunately I had laptop with me and managed to LiveChat with Sykes. Eventually owner contacted us, said we shouldn't have had their number, but would contact cleaner. Cleaner arrived, without mask, plastic apron,or protective gloves, apologised - gave cottage a thorough clean. So about three to three and half hours or so after our arrival we were able to unpack. The rest of our holiday we have been left wondering if we will test positive for covid, quite concerned as we are in our 80's. Don't feel we have had a restful holiday.Sykes and the owners have been in contact with each other, and have agreed a small refund; this however does not address our covid contamination conern - feel Sykes have not honoured their side of the contract by failing to ensure the property would be as covid free as possible.

Thanks for sharing your feedback Mr Lloyd. Were glad that you found our property comfortable and that the facilities and accuracy of the listing met your expectations. However, we acknowledge that the isolated instance upon your arrival was disappointing. We're always striving to improve our property and our guests experience; constructive feedback helps us make improvements for our future guests. We set high standards, as can be seen by our consistent positive reviews and the great condition of the property, which we work hard to maintain. Please note; this instance was a result of extenuating circumstances which have been discussed at great length with our house-keepers as well Menai Holiday Cottages and Sykes, measures have been taken as a result. As you're aware, your concerns were swiftly dealt with as soon as we became aware of them and you were generously compensated as a result. This was despite the challenges experienced at the time and issues Menai/Sykes were experiencing with their communications. Property Owner

  • "The house was absolutely immaculate and welcoming on arrival."

The decor was modern but in keeping with the type of accommodation and so tastefully done. The facilities provided met our needs perfectly and we didn’t want for anything. The back has the most stunning views and the decking was perfect for my family and I (not to mention my dog) to relax and soak up the sun. The beds were comfortable and I loved the house so much I booked the day I arrived for next year so that we wouldn’t miss out. It was a perfect, relaxing holiday and I honestly didn’t want to go home as we were so comfortable.

  • "On arrival from Manchester the cottage hadn’t been cleaned the beds were unmade and in the veranda outside there were bags of dog poo ."

We contacted you and were told that there was a mixup with our booking and that it hadn’t been done because they didn’t think it was booked out. I know from the website that there weren’t any dates available because it was fully booked. The shower when we came to use it was unbearably hot and very dangerous which I mentioned when called by you in case a child had used it . When it was cleaned I can say that the cottage was lovely and we enjoyed our stay.

Very clean, well-appointed holiday let with everything you need. A chippy across the road, 2 pubs in stumbling distance and a great butchers too. Really nice spot giving access to the rest of the island. Close to 2 beaches too. A very restful holiday with great weather in a very picturesque part of the world. I can highly recommend it. The Welsh cakes you left were also some of the nicest we've eaten - we stocked up on that very brand ;-)

The village was lovely with 2 beaches and a harbour. The people and shop/pub staff were friendly and welcoming. The only thing not perfect was the weather but it didn’t affect our enjoyment.

  • "Great location, lovely little cottage."

We would stay again, however there were a couple of things that did not meet out expectations- The bins had not been emptied There was no water at property-stop tap had been turned off so had to contact owner. One of the single beds upstairs had a few bugs init when we unravelled the duvet. There was only one filter paper for the coffee machine. Apart from that, was lovely and we enjoyed.

  • "What a lovely place the property is!"

It has just everything you could need for a stay away from home. It was spotlessly clean and we loved the Welsh cakes to welcome us. It’s literally a few minutes walk to the sea and beach from the front door and there are some lovely walks very close by too. I had a question before arriving and the owners were extremely helpful, also emailing me the welcome pack which I hadn’t sorted before arrival. Would definitely book it again.

If this is because of covid i understand. But it would be good to laminate instructions making deep cleaning easier. This did not create any problem for us but it may trouble some people. The cottage itself is in a perfect location for the beach & river walks 2 minutes away. Or just chill out on the rear garden elevated decking with pleasant views of the river & woodland. Overall a very nice cottage to relax & unwind or use as a base for exploring the island.

  • "The cottage was exactly as advertised and it was lovely to have milk, butter and bread there waiting for us on arrival."

The cottage location on the high street is ideal and just a short walk to the harbour and beach. The river walk was perfect for walking our dog and it was another route to the harbour. The fish and chip shop is on the high street and was great for our first night there for an easy quick meal. Dogs are allowed on specific areas of the beach. There are lots of walks in the area. Overall just a great little holiday and I’d definitely recommend the cottage and the village.

  • "The cottage is clearly a work of love by the owners."

The design decor and layout is very pleasing with tasteful features. The wood burning stove ( easy to manage ) was a really useful addition for after dinner chill time. The compact kitchen has made the most of space along with a utility room with wash and dry facility. The early morning sunrise is best appreciated in the excellent tiered decking. The babbling brook providing background for the morning papers. I would recommend this cottage for a holiday that is centred in a delightful village with really good restaurants a short drive away. We will certainly be booking again in the future. Dr Trevor Colluney Garstang Lancashire
