“Would think twice about staying in a flat again.”
We are a retired couple and like peace and quiet but noise easily passes through ceilings and floors in a flat.
We had 2 very bad sleeps initially, due to a television being on in an unoccupied flat above us, which ruined the start of the holiday. Whilst it was sorted out by the owner after we were driven to report it, and an apology given, we cant get that time back, it was 2 bad days and nights. Also we could hear the gentleman in the flat below us, snoring on occasions. This just shows the potential for noise transfer with flats. We were lucky that there were no families in residence as I could envisage being kept awake by children laughing, playing, running, crying etc.
I know this makes us sound like old fuddyduddys but unwanted noise is definitely a potential downside of staying in a flat.
I would just like to mention that the flat owner also offered us a free 2 night stay in the autumn as compensation but this is not practical for us. So this is not a complaint about the owner, just a warning about staying in flats.
