  • "Filthy property with inadequate heating."

It was damp inside so much that the kindling wouldn't catch fire in the log burner. We had to wash the cutlery and crockery before use. No washing up liquid hand soap or salt or much else we have normally come to expect in a short stay accommodation. Cold tiled flooring. Just very disappointed and dissatisfied with Sykes help understanding.

Many thanks for your feedback. We did offer to arrange for the cleaner to attend the property but this was declined and the owner wasn't given the opportunity to resolve the issues for you. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, beds very comfortable ."

Had a lovely few days in the cottage. Met the neighbours who were very nice. Had some nice times sitting in the garden and the house is quite central for going different places. The parking though not a great issue is difficult because the road is on a slight bend and a bit narrow , we didn't like to park in front of the house and ended up in the end parking across the road on the grass. There were a few other people doing that but it was a bit nervy as we weren't sure whether we were allowed to or not. We had parked down the road a bit for the first night but someone asked us to move as it obscured their view a bit when they were trying to get out. Apart from that we had a lovely time. Thank you.

  • "We have stayed at Gwenallt twice now."

The location is perfect for exploring the island, which we began visiting in 1998, so know our way around. Still discovering new things though. The cottage is old but very well modernised and equipped. There is nothing lacking in the facilities, unless you desperately need the internet. Just remember to duck when going through the bathroom door and on the stairs if you are around 6ft or more! The rear garden is pleasant to sit in and gets great sun almost to sunset. Parking on the road by the front wall worried us slightly before our first visit, but it is fine. There is very little noise disturbance from traffic and the neighbours are very helpful too. This is a great place to spend a week or two for a peaceful holiday and we'll be back.

  • "On arrival the cottage was cold with no instructions on how to get the heating on."

After a search the following day we found instructions in a cupboard on how the fire heats the radiators. Fire wasn’t set up correctly on arrival and had the net bag inside amongst the wood which is toxic and had we not noticed, it may have caused damage. It would be interesting to know when the chimney was last cleaned as the fumes gave me a dreadful cough which 2 weeks later I’m struggling to shift! It’s damp, mouldy in parts of the kitchen, needs some money spent on it to justify the 3.5 star ratings. The sofas are hard, small and uncomfortable. Crime books scattered around the cottage! Maybe put these away as they’re not for everyone. Cutlery and utensils were not clean. The bed is a cheap spring mattress which was uncomfortable and the doors could all do with a little WD40. We wouldn’t return.

  • "The property could use a freezer and wi-fi."

The wi-fi may be a choice not to have, or may not be viable in that location, and is certainly something that we can manage without; a luxury. We do like however, to bring pre-booked meals when self catering, especially in fairly isolated spots, and a freezer is necessary for this. These are minor quibbles however. The property is very comfortable and great value for money.

The freezer is under the staircase opposite the bathroom Property Owner

  • "The cottage is old and understandably can get chilly even when the weather outside is warm."

We used the wood burner but it didn’t get warm as it needs some attention, such as good clear out and new grates ( we know this as we have a wood burner of our own). The garden chairs and table were dirty and rusty so we couldn’t sit out. The kitchen extractor needs cleaning. The property is quaint but basic, though that’s reflected in the rental price, just glad we didn’t pay anymore. Good location for getting around the island.

Thank you for your comments, We have provided electric heaters in all rooms to supplement the heating, which guests can of course use. We also provide logs and sticks as a starter pack as advertised, for the woodburner which is also always cleared out on changeover. We have also replaced the outside chairs. Property Owner

We found the accommodation to be comfortable with all the basic amenities we required. A welcome of Welsh Cakes tea etc was appreciated and the owner was very pleasant when contacting prior to the stay. The neighbours were very friendly. We found parking to be fine. There is no Wi-Fi but O2 4g worked fine in the cottage so this wasn’t a problem. Anglesey is beautiful and this accommodation is well worth considering if you are thinking of a holiday in this part of the world.

The woodburner is not for us, (too messy!) and you need work gloves too! No carpets makes it slippy and cold unfortunately. The Owner (decent chap) very kindly put more money in the meter as we were worried about running out of electric! Hot water is good and a great bath. Low doorways and creaky stairs were a pain! Private garden is quite nice but rather overgrown. Beds very very comfy! Parking is very awkward. Nice location though.

  • "Gwenallt was ideally situated to explore the lovely beaches at Aberffraw, Rosneigr and Newborough and on arrival at the property we were greeted by teabag and milk and chocolate cake."

On moving in at the property we were initally disapointed with the facilities. There firstly was nowhere to store the provisions we had brought with us as there was no room in the kitchenette. Very little worktop space, which was sticky with some residue (which I had to clean firstly). There was clingfilm covering the top of the fridge which was filthy as was the stovetop and cooker hood. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and along the kitchenette cupboards as well as dirty inside. There was a grimy laminated copy of the hob instructions which was stuck down on one side of the worktop. The owners had to come to the rescue when the kettle died and provided us with a replacement. There was a washing machine in the kitchen which seemed a waste of space as there was no washing line outside but only a fold up clothes airer. I was disappointed to find that the bathroom was on the ground floor and unheated (it was freezing cold). This was not advertised in the blurb and so we assumed that it was situated on the first floor. The only form of heating was the multifuel fire which had a back boiler but it was a total waste of time as by the time it was lit in the evenings and hot enough to power the towel rail plus the radiators in each bedroom it was time to retire for the night. The only other form of heating were only oil filled portable radiators. The lounge was nicely furnished with comfortable sofas but we quickly discovered that the plaster was flaking off the lounge walls. There seemed to be a damp window recess in the front double bedroom which was discoloured and the bed there was not as advertised in the blurb. There were dust bunnies in the bedroom. The rear garden was a lovely suntrap during the day and was a wonderful star-gazing site at night. Unfortunately it was not totally secure in that the low rear wall was protected by 2 large wheelie bins, which were removed on Thursday morning, presumably for emptying or for the next door neighbours to use? We had to keep our dog on a lead in the garden for fear he would jump the wall. There were no instructions as to what to do if the bins needed to be placed outside for refuse collecting? We left the property late afternoon on Thursday, 2 nights earlier than planned as the weather had turned extremely cold, with smatterings of sleet/snow and the cottage was too cold for our comfort.

Many thanks for your comments and we're glad you liked the welcome pack. The kitchen storage layout has been reviewed and the advert now reflects that the bathroom is downstairs. The damp area has been identified and it has been remedied and the cottage has been redecorated along with a deep clean. Property Owner

  • "The cottage had everything we needed."

Very comfortable and lots of gadgets in the kitchen. The tea, cake and a lit fire on arrival was a lovely touch. The secure back garden was ideal for our young dog to play in. The cottage was in an ideal location only a few minutes from Aberffraw or Newborough forest, both of them are fantastic places to take your dog. The only suggestion I can make is to have some type of glove to use when opening the fire door as the handle can get very hot, other than that a very enjoyable holiday, looking to return again next year.

  • "The cottage is not in Malltreath."

It’s in Hermon where there are no shops, nothing and the nearest facilities are not walkable. The write up leads you believe that the cottage is in Malltreath. I found it misleading. The parking is horrendous and dangerous, there were massive tractors speeding past my car. People speed through the village at way more than 30mph. It does not state in the details that the bathroom is downstairs. This needs to be made clear. The bathroom is well done but I think the shower would have been better with a door rather than a curtain. It sticks to you in the shower and they tend to need replacing regularly. The whole place had cobwebs, peeling plaster and paint, I realise they’re going for the quaint look but it does need attention throughout. The garden is unkempt and the gate through to next door doesn’t close properly. Their garden is open at the back so really not safe for an inquisitive dog. There is no handle for the grill pan nor any oven glove. My husband burnt his thumb and had a huge blister. There were two chipped glasses in the cupboard which need replacing. There were no instructions re bin collection day and whether we needed to put bins out. So we missed bin day. The latch on the main bedroom door doesn’t always catch so if you get up during the night you disturb your partner whilst fiddling with the door. The headboard on the double bed is very wobbly and the fitted sheet tends to pull off easily. The bedside cabinets are very light and when you pull open a drawer the whole thing moves. On the good side we enjoyed the fire and bought more logs and fire lighters. The neighbours are friendly and the lady at the cottage next door but one has beautiful flowers at the front and gave us some plum jam. The weather was good and we enjoyed the island very much especially Newborough beach and forest and Aberffraw. Would I stay again? Probably not. It was cheap but still not worth the money.

The head height on the stairs and bathroom door are small, but we are over 6ft and didnt have too much of an issue. The fire is lovely - definitely a big plus in this cottage, really made it cosy. • "The cottage is very cosy."

However room for improvement is cleanliness. Although the overall surface was clean it was things like lots of cobwebs and very dusty. The floors were swept clean on our arrival but not sure if they had been mopped. Our socks were black if worn without shoes. The sofas were very uncomfortable. We was out most of the day walking but in every evening and felt very uncomfortable on the sofas. The shower was okay but I think a shower screen would be better than a curtain as water would overflow the shower tray onto the bathroom floor. There was a sign asking to put mats down as floor becomes slippy. However there were no bath mats available so we had to use our own towels to soak up the overflow of water from the shower tray. Although the cottage was cosy, the front room could do with a makeover. The fireplace was very dark with the surrounding being stone, and the inside of the fireplace is painted black to go with the log burner. It darkened the room even more. So we had to have lamps on during day light.
