  • "Despite the weather at this time of year we had an amazing stay."

The cottage was comfortable and cosy, with every amenity that we needed. The kitchen is very well equipped and the beds are really comfortable. We went to Zipworld and Llanberis, would highly recommend both. We would love to visit again in the summer, thank you and best wishes for 2024!

  • "Very comfy beds and well equipped kitchen."

Ideas location for visiting lots of castles and National Trust properties. We loved the visits from the neighbourhood cat! Highly recommend Llanberis for paddleboarding and swimming in Llyn Padarn with surrounding mountains. Absolutely beautiful! P.S. only issues were small and reported to Sykes.

  • "What an absolutely delightful property in a very calm and tranquil setting!"

We had a really fabulous time, very comfortable cottage, very well-equipped with everything you would ever need on a holiday. Beds and linen cosy and warm, as well as throws on the sofa, lovely seating in the lounge. Really enjoyed every bit of our stay. Thanks so much for the Welsh cakes, crisps and all the goodies.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Avalon."

The cottage is clean, cosy and comfortable - a hidden gem! We enjoyed the visits from your beautiful cat. Had excellent breakfast at Ty Golchi, not so good breakfast at the Swellies but lovely there for coffee and cake. The Ribride on the Menai Straits is fantastic. Lunch at Dylan's in Menai Bridge was excellent. Many thanks Joe, we had a fab time.

  • "Great stay at this lovely cottage."

Well equipped kitchen, which had everything we needed, including for two young children. The rooms were a good size with plenty of storage. Amazing selection of activities close to the property including boat trips, hikes, lovely beaches and restaurants. The owners are a lovely family who were very accomodating. All the good things....

  • "We visited North Wales on a wet Summer weekend."

The rain didn't dampen our enjoyment, in part due to staying in a really comfortable cottage. The beds and bedding were super comfy and we enjoyed our stay. The only blip was an Internet problem due to damage to the BT lines. Our hosts pulled out all the stops to make sure we still had access to the Internet. As well as being comfortable and well appointed, Avalon is perfectly situated to explore all the attractions of North Wales.

Location great for exploring Snowdonia & North Wales Coast. Welcome pack a nice touch & Welsh cakes which were new to us were yummy! Enjoyed our daily visits from the friendly cat and watching the birds at the feeder. Thanks for a great stay.

  • ""Thank you so much for letting us stay in your really lovely house, it really is delightful, immaculate and so well equipped."

The power shower / wet room was a treat & the milk, coffee & Welsh cakes (my favourite) was thoughtful. This is a great location for everything. Plas Cadnant on Anglesey for a gem, beautiful and well worth a visit, and the mountains, also sunshine, so lucky, and how lucky were we to find this place. We know where you are now and will surely be back. Very comfee beds and settees, most important & will say again 'spotless everywhere'." Many thanks,

  • "Avalon is a lovely comfy cottage & we have had one of the best holidays here in North Wales."

The cottage is quiet and a great location to explore and visit nearby towns and attractions. Zipworld (Bounce Below) is a must, Llanberis (lake Padarn) was stunning. There is so much to do around here for families and we can't wait to return one day soon. Loved the friendly cat who my kids named 'kitty soft paws'. Dylan's was great for dinner and the food was delicious. Thank you.

  • ""Had a lovely week here and the accomodation was everything with thought it would be, clean and the perfect getaway spot."

The kitchen was well supplied and the welcome pack much appreciated. On the cooler nights the central heating was an added bonus after being out, it made a very welcoming atmosphere. The location was perfectly situated for day trips to Anglesey, Snowdon and the North Wales coastal towns. For people like us who like to cook it was handy having a large Tesco and cafe nearby for supplies. All in all we had a relaxing, enjoyable time here and would definitely return."

  • "Avalon is a lovely cottage that is well situated for exploring Snowdonia, Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula."

After a hard day exploring, Avalon is a lovely cottage to come back to and relax on the decking in the sun with a glass of vino or beer and a good book! We met the owners early in our stay more by necessity than chance (but that's another story!). They were very friendly and approachable and made some good recommendations to us. Next doors cat, by-the-way, will come & say hello. It is very friendly and seems to want to sleep a lot. Needless to say, we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Avalon and we were able to see North Wales at it's very best. Who needs to go abroad when you have wall-to-wall sunshine here! Fabulous!

  • "We've thoroughly enjoyed our week in Avalon, which is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay."

Although we feel the issue of hanging space needs to be better addressed we have spoken to the very approachable owners and note this will be rectified. The cottage is in a very good location for exploring this stunning part of north wales.

  • "While finding the Avalon property to be generally clean and comfortable we were somewhat dissatisfied with the facilities considering the cost of the week we spent there."

Our main points of dissatisfaction were as follows: 1) The kitchen cutlery and utensils were insufficient and the hob temperature was difficult to control for cooking (slow to heat up and then too hot despite turning down). There was a small fridge and a smaller tabletop freezer. 2) The property was not clearly signposted from the narrow lane it is on. 3) The accommodation would be a tight squeeze for a group of five. 4) The second bedroom (double and single bed) smelled of damp or possibly a cat and we had to buy a plug in air freshener. 5)There was no privacy when using the downstairs shower and toilet and no space in the shower room to change. The downstairs shower was the only bathroom in the property although there was an ensuite toilet and sink to the main bedroom and a similar facility downstairs opposite the shower room. 6) The outside decking space is nice to have but of no use in winter months or bad weather. 7) The television was not connected to an aerial so we had no accuse to free to air channels such as BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. It did have Netflix which was welcome but limiting. 8) The electrics in the bedrooms seemed to be extended throughout the spaces by extension sockets. The central heating was very effective and easy to control with HIVE. 9) The WiFi signal was excellent. Because of the issues listed above we felt able to give the property a rating of 6/10.

Thank you for your feedback Mr Shipman. We're glad to hear you had a comfortable stay, and appreciate your feedback with regard to the facilities. This property has only recently been renovated, and we appreciate any feedback our guests have to give. We love to cook and understand that some of our guests also enjoy cooking their favorite dishes during their stay, and for this reason we've provided a full range of utensils and cooking equipment. While we're disappointed to hear about your experience with the hob, we can confirm it is in full working order. The properties fridge is a standard under counter size, but thank you for your feedback on the tabletop freezer. This was recently installed as we also installed a washing machine in response to guest feedback. We have added additional signage to the property to help our future guests. The wet room and toilets at the property are as advertised and displayed in the properties photographs. We're glad you appreciated the decking area, particularly as you had such exceptionally good weather during your stay. We will look into connecting the property with terrestrial TV in addition to Netflix, and are happy you made use of the excellent WiFi speed and HIVE heating.' Property Owner

  • "A very enjoyable week at Avalon."

Accommodation met our expectations and was very comfortable. It is an easy walk to the marina and there is lots to see within a short driving distance. A beautiful part of the country and we would certainly recommend this accommodation.

  • "It would have been more comfortable if they supplied more than two small toilet roles for 5 people as well as paper towels and/or tea towels."

These might be things we can easily buy but not having to worry about it once we arrived would have been more comfortable.

The property

This stone-built barn conversion lies off a private track in Y Felinheli, just outside the city of Bangor, in North Wales.

Offering quality accommodation for a group of five, Avalon is attached to the owner’s home and provides a fabulous holiday base in tranquil surroundings.

Upon arrival, find an outdoor decking equipped with two picnic and garden benches, offering a real sun trap for alfresco dining.

Enter through the French doors into the living/dining room, where you can lounge on the sofas after a day of walking or pull out the dining table and prepare for a hearty family feast.

The amply-equipped kitchen comes with slate flooring and windows on all sides, making it a light and spacious area to cook in, whilst the benefits of an electric oven, hob, fridge, freezer and even a dishwasher are sure to come in handy.

Venture up the winding staircase to reach a large landing, complete with a high-pitched ceiling and a library of boardgames to keep you entertained.

Retire to the family room where a double and single bed offer room for three, whilst across the landing there is a double with en-suite basin and WC, each well furnished with matching units and ample storage space.

Close to the A55, Avalon enjoys a good touring location for North Wales; within a short drive you can access the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, home to many vibrant town, villages and sandy beaches.

Or head in the other direction to the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), perfect if you’re looking for opportunities to walk, cycle and spot some wildlife and dramatic scenery; the brave among you might even try to summit the nearby Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

The property is also situated on the Lon Las Menai cycle track which runs, mainly off-road, between Bangor and Caernarfon.

For family days out, the Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre and Greenwood Family Park are recommended, whilst a pleasant drive away to the town of Caernarfon offers attractions such as the imposing World Heritage fortress of Caernarfon Castle and Caernarfon Station are a real hit with avid historians.
