  • "We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely return."

The cottage had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach every day and so did our Labrador Joy! The sunrise is is definitely worth seeing!

Thank you for your positive feedback. We shall look forward to your return visit. Property Owner

  • "Not sure where to begin; it has glorious views and easy access to the beach, the Wi-Fi is good and the front bedroom is nicely decorated."

However no way is this a 4 star property. The general standard of cleanliness was poor and apart from the front bedroom I’ve seen better decorating standards in tatty student flats. The paint is chipped in many places, and there is mould in the downstairs bathroom. In the kitchen and bathrooms there were dirty corners and the edge of the fridge door is rusty. The sheets on the twin bed were stained, thankfully we were not using that room! The duvet and mattress protector in the front bedroom stank ( I rang the owner about this and he had the grace to get the cleaner to replace them within the day). You might say why didn’t I ring about everything else but when you’re on holiday you go in with rosy glasses and these things gradually stood out more as the week went on. Apart from the duvet they were things we could live with but I repeat NO WAY is this a 4* property and that is based on our shared previous experience of Sykes’ properties across the UK. and I feel we were ripped off. In the guest book the owner had responded to a comment about cleanliness saying it was all based on the holidaymakers perception!! Surely in a holiday home rated 4* there is an expectation that there will be a high standard of cleanliness! To top it all off and we were only conscious of this on our last morning when it was raining, the access is over a grassy bank which is fine if it’s dry and you’re fit, but a different story in the pouring rain.

It is upsetting to receive reviews of this nature, I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with our property. It is reviewed independently and has been graded 4 star since we first let it 18 years ago. In that time, it has been much improved with the addition of its conservatory, a new kitchen and two new bathrooms. Every room has been redecorated, some more than once. It is a popular property which gets frequent returning visitors so has been continuously occupied for months. In that time, it is possible to have sustained paint chips which will be dealt with during non-peak season. In regard to your comments about the cleanliness issues I will ask the cleaners to pay particular attention to these issues. I am aware that the outside of the fridge door has signs of corrosion next to its trim piece and it will be changed during the Autumn when there is a gap in occupancy. In 18 years, we have not had any complaint that from the road to garden gate requires crossing a bank of grass. It is level, not a bank, as we invite guests to park on it if they wish and many do. I will consider installing stepping stones. Property Owner

  • "Amazing location and a lovely little beach at the end of the lane."

Cottage was not that clean when we arrived!there where lots of dead flys around and oven was dirty. There is no welcome pack so people need to be aware to take milk in with them! I chose not to complain because only being there for a week. We did need to get in touch with the host about a broken toilet seat and they were very quick with sorting it out and it was much appreciated.

  • "Stayed with my son and dog in early June 23."

Great comfy beds and good showers. Could do with some sharp knives, kitchen foil and pegs. Also it would have been nice to have had a welcome pack, even if this was just some milk for a cuppa after a long drive. Had to buy loo roll and washing up liquid. Also I appreciate that there are no on site recycling facilities due to there being a private refuse contractor, but it would be really useful to provide information on the nearest bottle banks / recycling site. It felt horrible to put plastics and cardboard in the general rubbish and we brought out bottles back with with us. I chose this property as it was advertised as having an enclosed garden for the dog. I knew the garden was to be shared with the adjoining house but I don't think the people staying there were expecting us to be using it and were a bit taken back when we did. Reading the visitor information folder in the cottage it did state that use of the enclosed garden was for those staying in the house and not us. Luckily the people there were lovely and didn't seem to mind and thankfully the dogs got on. However it felt really uncomfortable being in there walking in front of their windows and open doors while waiting for my dog to poo. I didn't feel that I could just open the door in the morning or last thing at night to leave him wandering about on his own in case I missed picking up after him. So not as relaxing as it could have been. I loved the location hidden away, I love Anglesey and we had the most fantastic weather. I didn't intend for this to be an extended moan, we really did have have a good week. I hope that this will be taken in the constructive spirit in which it was meant. Thank you.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We will add information on the nearest bottle banks etc to the Housebook, and I will sharpen the knives again when we are there with our family in the near future and leave more pegs. I expect the cleaners to leave adequate loo rolls and washing up liquid so will mention this to them. It is not entirely clear which garden you refer to as enclosed, from the description I'm guessing the one on the Holyhead side which is reserved for guests in the House. However the larger garden on the other side is specifically shared between the properties and can also be enclosed by closing the gates to the drive. Property Owner

  • "Beds very comfy On arrival not the cleanest- kitchen bin not emptied, surfaces dusty and cobwebs everywhere, also windows dirty."

Broken under stairs cupboard door, with note saying sorry broken do not use, and the hoover used to stop it falling. This was a concern for us as we have 3 children that could have been injured by it falling. Garden not in any way enclosed- this needs removing from listing immediately as totally misleading. Treehouse tired and needs maintenance for safety. Access to beach great but the track is used by some cars like a rally track. If the property is been rented as separate units the adjoining door needs addressing as a matter of urgency- the internal door is totally inadequate for both security and sound insulation (there was a big party of adults our 1st weekend followed by a large family group and we could hear everything). Kitchen on the whole well equipped but only 1 small oven tray for cooking meant we had to eat in shifts, and no grill pan. Downstairs shower room was handy but again needs maintenance - shower tray cracked and the water slow to drain- we removed handfuls of hair and muck from shower trap to help slightly. Great to have a washing machine but having a shared washing line and only 12 shared pegs isn’t really sufficient. Lovely to have outdoor table and chairs available but as garden wasn’t enclosed and as the garden we had access to had no evening sun we didn’t use. Owner’s personal pictures in the living area shouldn’t really be there- have never ever come across this in a holiday home before. Overall had a nice stay, loved the island, the views and slept amazingly, we were also very lucky with the weather. We just felt that the cottage is a little tired and in need of some TLC .

  • "Lack of basic equipment, eg."

no dishcloths or washing up liquid, no dishwasher tablets, no chopping boards, also more than six knives and forks would have been nice. No swing on treehouse as shown in listing. Mouse poo in cupboards. Had to throw moldy baking tray away. Such a shame as it is in a great location.

These guests contacted me saying there were no chopping boards which confused me because there were definitely the usual two in the kitchen. (The cleaners confirmed this the following Friday) I apologised to them if the cleaners had neglected to leave a dishcloth etc as I would have expected or failed to spot mouse poo. This was a first letting ting after several winter months unusually without guests. I suggested they could buy anything they felt they were short of and I would refund the cost but did not get a response to my offer. The listing has never to my knowledge shown a swing on the treehouse and there are more than 6 items of cutlery so I am puzzled by those comments. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house in a wonderful location next to the beach."

Lots of beautiful beaches within reach. Great house set up for a multi-generational family with the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. The children enjoyed playing in the treehouse. Had an unfortunate issue with the washing machine when we used it and it smoked and had to be disconnected. The heavy winds made the top twin bedroom velux window rattle very loudly through the night which caused a few disturbed nights!

Thank you for your kind comments. I was sorry to hear that the washing machine expired during use. Thank you for reporting it to us. Obviously we shall replace that with a new one. We have not previously had issues with the Velux window so I will check that to see if there is any cause . Property Owner

  • "A fantastic location with what seems like your own beach only 5 minutes walk away."

Lovely back drop of the lamb fields from the grassed garden area. House facilities were adequate for our stay of 5 adults and 1 child ( three generations). Useful facilities like the washing machine and dishwasher really helped with our time management. If We had one issue it was with the crockery in so much it was smaller in size than usual, but hey if that is all we could ‘moan’ about I would take that every time. Overall a great place to stay for a peaceful location with great access to all what Anglesey has to offer. We’ll be back.

  • "Absolutely loved this cottage."

It was perfectly clean on our arrival and very comfortable. Loved the views and the short walk to the beach. I've deducted a couple of points off as we had issues with keys and key safe and it would have been great if we had a slightly more secure garden for our dog.

Many thanks for your review. It appears the salty sea air has made the keybox difficult to open so I will replace it with a new one. The properties share use of the front garden which can be enclosed by gates, but depending on the size of dog I appreciate that some are capable of jumping over the wall at the corner! Half an hour walk to the pub and shop. Having a downstairs bedroom and shower room meant mum could come too. Well equipped with 2 hairdryers, dishwasher, washer, lots of pots and pans, cafetière and books and games. Tv with Netflix and radio/stereo. Bedrooms comfy with super views. Large garden (need to watch the dogs) at the back and a sunny bench out front. Friendly owner at the end of the phone. Good base for touring Anglesey (20 mins to Holyhead, Beaumaris, 50 to Conwy) and it was a bit of a sun trap! We loved it.

  • "The property was absolutely fantastic."

The only criticisms I could give was the conservatory door. It was so hard to open and it could so easily have been fixed. It has been mentioned before by so many people. The other thing was the downstairs shower but overall the property was excellent.

Thank you for your feedback. Proximity to the sea does cause issues with door mechanisms and this door required a strong upward pull before the key turns even when new. I will ensure it is loosened. The shower holder was fixed by the subsequent guests, it just need to be turned round once to tighten the screw. Property Owner

  • "We were very disappointed with the property overall."

The location by the sea is lovely, but it needs to be clearer how remote it is. Views are amazing and it’s a peaceful relaxing setting. All the beds were very comfortable. However, this is where the positive points finish! There was no welcome pack - not even any toilet roll, which felt rather mean. Plus, on a freezing cold day the heating was switched off. The property was not very clean when we arrived (and by the way, the door was unlocked with the keys in the lock!!) It appeared superficially clean, but skirting boards were thick with dust; cobwebs in bathroom and bedroom; washbasin in ground floor bathroom was stained; toilets not clean; insides of kitchen cupboards sticky and marked with water rings. Generally, it felt grimy. Furniture was very tired -leather sofas and chairs were cracked. Dining room table and chairs looked to be around 20 years old - very faded. The bedding and towels seemed cheap and tired (some towels faded). The shower hose in the ground floor shower room has obviously been replaced and didn’t fit the holder, so it was impossible to have a shower as you needed to hold it! The grouting in both bathrooms was patchy and needs redoing. The bath in the upstairs bathroom is high and not easy to climb into. The lounge is okay, but lighting is not good. Too bright with 12 ceiling lights but only 1 lamp so too dim with just that. There is a wall-light but you need to stand on the sofa to switch it on! I didn’t like the personal photos on display - it felt creepy:( The rug was filthy and stained. There were no coasters for cups. Some cutlery and crockery that had been out away was dirty. Fridge wasn’t very clean. Several plates and dishes were chipped. There was no heating in the conservatory so we couldn’t use it and the roof leaked - this has been reported on for at least 7 years! (According to visitors book). The lock on back door is almost impossible. The outside seating is dirty and rusty. The back garden was littered with garden furniture that’s obviously been blown around. The front gate cannot be closed so the front garden can’t be made secure. Overall - it felt as if nobody cared about this property. It has a neglected feel to it. We believe it could be fabulous and probably was lovely 20 years ago but is now definitely past its sell by date. Sykes as a company ought to check standards - this property was given4 ticks - no was does it deserve even 2. We therefore will not be using Sykes for our future holidays and will not be recommending this company to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Bodlasan Groes Cottage is a much-loved family cottage. Toilet rolls are normally provided and we will address this with our cleaners. Whilst the dining suite is perfectly serviceable, a new one has been on order for some months now but due to the current climate it is late arriving, the leather suite was replaced last year and on inspection is fine. The bedding and towels are replaced soon as they become time-worn. The bath is standard size and unfortunately, we cannot change this . I was not aware of the issue with the shower hose holder it is now in hand. The lighting is a personal preference and we have not come across any issues before. The leak in the conservatory was repaired in February and there have not been any issues since. Anglesey can get extremely windy at times and items can be blown around the garden. This is our family home and we have had many happy holidays here as have a large number of returning guests. There have never been any issues regarding family photos. If you had called the local office during your stay, they could have addressed any issues for you. Since your visit a full inspection has been carried out by the local office. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay at the Cottage which was comfortable and well equipped."

A couple of minor points: - The fridge was off when we arrived and the freezer compartments were therefore full of water - No dishwasher tablets - No J cloths or pan scrubbers. We’ve left the ones we bought for the next occupants. Otherwise all good. Rob and Bea

I am sorry to hear that the fridge had de-frosted. It is normally left on permanently so I can only assume that the previous guests switched it off when leaving and the cleaners did not notice. I have asked them to ensure that dishwasher tablets and pan scrubbers are provided. They are certainly available in our supplies cupboard so must have been forgotten on this occasion.
