  • "We found our stay in three gates both delightful and disappointing."

The cottage is situated in outstandingly beautiful surroundings, its utterly peaceful and blissfully quiet. The cottage is delightful, however, we did find issues with cleanliness for example, cobwebs where everywhere, there were hairs in the shower tray, the shower doors were dirty. The mattress has seen its day and needs changing, we could feel the springs. We had to shake the bed linen each evening as it was covered in small black bits, not sure if this was falling from the ceiling? But it wasn't very pleasant. The log burner has a hole in the flue which makes for a very expensive stay, as it burns way to fast and eats the logs and finally the rug in front of the fire really needs cleaning desperately. If these few things could be changed/cleaned our stay would of been 5*, it was such a shame as like I say the cottage itself is delightful and where it is is just perfect.

Hi there, Pleased you loved house and location. Sorry about your other issues. If we had been made aware of these we could have made all good. Thank You Vera Was the window open when you had log burner on. This might account for black specs ? Property Owner

  • "It is a lovely cottage but not well looked after."

SAFETY there is a major safety problem with the log burning fire. The chimney bezel on the fire is completely rusted with more holes in it then there is holding it in place. It is very obvious the the unit has never been safety checked using a smoke pellet as has to be done every year. The beds, I have never tried to sleep on such poor mattress’s. When we sat on the bed there support of the mattress was so bad we sank down to the baseboard of both beds. I think this is disgusting when paying over £130 a night. With regards to cleanliness, the property requires a deep, deep clean. Thanks to my wife insisting we had our own towels, because the provided ones were nothing less to discussing. I can stay in a four star hotel for these prices, will not be staying here again. This is my honest straightforward observation and comments.

  • "Lovely location, generally comfortable but quite a few drawbacks."

Generally needs a number of things to be fixed - e.g shelves in the fridge, bedroom door latch, fridge light didn't go off. Lots of decorative clutter meant not much room for our stuff. Not very well equipped - hardly any cutlery, only a couple of plates, bowls etc. Hardly any space for food preparation or storage. As mentioned by previous visitors place could do with a thorough clean - cobwebs under chairs, etc. Information about waste collection not up to date.

Hi there,I'm pleased you found cottage comfortable and location great. Sorry to hear about fridge and latch, we would have sorted if we had known. Fridge light has me baffled, how did you know it stayed on all the time ?  The dust under the chairs will be removed ASAP. Waste removal is tiresome for some guests, I do sympathise, but alas the stunning location which is off route for commercial vehicles gives us little option for disposal hence guests are requested to take to nearest pick up point. Thanks for your patience Vera. The cottage was in a nice quiet spot with birds and red squirrels. The surroundings were beautiful especially on the coast. We walked stretches of the coast path. The weather was good. Just a pity the cottage was not that clean. Cobwebs everywhere. The cottage needs a good cleaning and some furniture could do with some replacing. But we had a nice holiday.

Dear guests, I am surprised to read your feedback, given I found the cottage had been left in a terrible state. The sofa and table need specialist cleaning. You left very late, left piles of washing up and mess everywhere. I am actually lost for words. " Property Owner

Actually more spacious than anticipated it was a beautiful place to stay in a location that was surrounded by stunning views. We found the cottage inviting, homely, comfy & very warm. Having two large dogs with us we often struggle to find firstly somewhere that allows them both and secondly somewhere where there is room for them to have their beds in the same room. We enjoyed fabulous weather during our stay so did not need to light the wood burner however had we needed to, the living room was large enough for both our dogs to lie in front of the fire. This cottage is secluded and quiet especially if you get lucky with both neighbours (which we did). Understandably it can be quite dark inside having few windows but there are ample lights all over which we found added to the beauty of this cottage. Nothing negative to report. We loved it.

  • "Wonderfully located holiday cottage."

We managed walks to all points of the compass in our week long stay. Penmon Priory and Point are easily walkable for those residents who are reasonably fit and active. We didn't quite make it down the steep last section to Llandonna/Red Wharf Bay but hope to do so the next time.. the walk to wonderful Beaumaris is a much more gentle affair. The fairly regular no. 59 bus can also take you there and bring you back, should you wish. The cottage itself is very comfortable and the decor is so tasteful. The cleaner informed me that the myriad of ceramic swifts or swallows on the wall and one corner of the kitchen ceiling are all hand made by the owner. Marvellous. The furnishings completely suit and complement the age of the property. Like with many properties of a similar age and style, considerable care has to be taken to avoid banging one's head, particularly where the bedroom conversion means the roof slants steeply away. The only difficulty we had, and ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem but during our stay my wife had to submit a very important piece of academic work online, is that the internet connection kept dropping out. Devices were still connected to the Wi-Fi, but only switching the router off and back on again re-established the connection. We had to do this a number of times. The civility and helpfulness of all of the local people we met, including the cleaning and caretaker staff, was very heartwarming. Overall, an excellent place to stay!

I really enjoyed the quaint cozy characterful cottage. Great location perched on top of a hill. It potentially could be a 5* stay. It was however in need of a deep clean, I dropped something behind the bedside table & toilet both of which were really dusty with cobwebs. The sofa smelt of wet dog. There was a cracked bowl & mug. The edging of the kitchen work surface was loose. The lock was very stiff and I was locked in on several occasions. The garden is perfect for viewing sunset but was in need of a good tidy. Vera was attentive and accommodating and I wouldn’t put the above off me rebooking or recommending the cottage.

A little difficult to find, especially as we arrived in the dark. We did try all 3 phone numbers provided but couldn’t get an answer from any of them. We did find our way eventually, and the track leading up to the property was extremely challenging! Just glad the snow had gone, and we didn’t come in our other car, as we wouldn’t have made it up the track. But, once we got to the property - what a warm welcome! The fire was lit, perfect for a cold December evening. The property is really quirky, but a little tired in places. And could have done with a more thorough clean throughout. The shower isn’t great, and the beds are very small. But, the location, and everything else is perfect. All in all, a lovely short break. Perfect for some quiet and nice long walks

Dear Guest.....Thank you for your great comments in the guest book. Apologies no one picked up the phone  when you were unable to find the cottage ? Yes, a long period of severe stormy weather has resulted in the track to the cottage being more difficult to negotiate we will most certainly attempt to improve access as soon as. Following a recent agency visit we believed cleaning to be satisfactory however we will check once more.  Really pleased you loved the cottage and look forward to you visiting again. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was quaint and in a quiet secluded location."

Access would be difficult without a 4x4 vehicle particularly in wet weather. The property was an ideal size for 2 people plus dogs but the proprty was tired and furnishings were sparse as regards comfort in the living room. The tendency to use old distressed cupboards was overdone and the bedroom lacked storage space. We kept our clothes in a suitcase and bag as it was difficult to open the big heavy drawers. There was no wardrobe just exposed rails. The small double bed was too small for 2 adults to share in comfort. The shower water pressure was poor and would be unpleasant in cold weather. There was no dustbin outside unlike the property next door and guests were expected to take bin bags in their vehicles to public bins quite a distance away with the risk of the bags bursting. These faults can easily be rectified cheaply and the property reach its potential.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately neither the local council or refuse collection services are prepared to collect waste from the cottage or the Mill next door, hence guests are requested to take their rubbish to the nearest drop off point. The cottage is advertised with 2 single beds and a 'small double on request', there is insufficient room for a wardrobe and the large pine drawers are to help alleviate storage problems. Thank you for the lovely message you left in the guest book. Property Owner

It's a quaint, rustic and warming property that's lovely to come back to. Bonus is that there is a fantastic pebbled cove housing White Beach just a 15min walk through the fields and deserted country roads on its doorstep. Highly recommend.....it's a wonderful get away from it all place. Rustic and charming and would definitely stay again . Fabulous setting for remoteness and watching sunsets, also practically on the Wales Coast Path for walks to Red Wharf Bay in one direction and Penmon Point in the other. Old cottage with very good heating and hot water, large fridge/freezer and surprisingly good internet connection. It didn't bother us but we can see why some reviewers have commented on cleanliness. Much of the furniture is antique/vintage and many of the cupboards/drawers/shelves, etc in the property are either too cluttered with old stuff or not really clean enough for eg clothes, etc. To us it was rustic and charming and what you might expect in a remote location. The drive is fine for all except the most low-slung of cars. Beware the very sharp slab on the LHS on the bend just after the junction where you turn sharp left - it could slash a tyre. Keep in the ruts, ie in the centre of the track and you will be fine. We will be returning here.

The track to the cottage really should be pointed out that you defo need a very substantial vehicle. The outside was scruffy, weeds, garden seats falling apart. However the description was less than accurate. Access is indeed via a farm track but a 4x4 vehicle is essential to navigate the track to the cottage. Anyone in a standard family car may well struggle to reach the cottage and this should be made clear in the description. The cottage had all the facilities you could need for a holiday but some were in need of replacement. The shower was difficult to use and the "eclectic mix of furnishings" prevented adequate cleaning. The property was very dusty and some furnishings very worn and dirty. The photos on the website show bright and airy accomodation but the cottage is quite dark inside as would be expected of a cottage of this age. It would benefit from a declutter and an extra small sofa since the seating in the living room did not really provide for a comfortable evening of relaxation. We did enjoy our time in this beautiful part of Wales.

The only thing I would say is all the extractor fans needed a good clean and if the seating area/grassed area to the left of the cottage had been mown and tidied it would have been even better for if we had had the weather to sit out, lots of outside seating was great. Oh also I think the stairs would benefit from carpet but that's just my personal opinion. I certainly don't have any complaints and would recommend without hesitation. A great little find.
