  • "This is a lovely, quirky cottage in a fabulous location with stunning views."

Fresh flowers on arrival were a really nice touch. The approach to the cottage makes it extremely secluded, it’s so quiet and the stars are amazing. It had everything we wanted and we’ll definitely visit again.

  • "The Cottage itself is great for a relaxing getaway, a lovely building in an idyllic location and very peaceful."

In terms of feedback and the reasons for our scoring, there should be more detail and warning about the track leading up to the cottage. This is fairly long and winding and not suitable for low wheeled vehicles, it could cause some serious damage to the under carriage of such vehicles. Ours has a low wheeled base and it took very cautious, careful maneuvering to navigate the terrain of the track, still scraping the bottom of the car as we went (especially at night). That said, the main reason for our lower score was the clutter and general cleanliness with took away from the overall comfort of our stay. The comfort would be greatly improved if the cottage had a really good de-clutter (it felt like someone was living there and had just popped out to the shop). There is lots of clutter everywhere that seems like it's just been building up over time, almost every surface has stuff on it, piles of magazines, waste packaging in the log baskets, most cupboards and drawers full of clutter). The cottage would also benefit from a really good deep clean and and perhaps some minor repairs to damaged fittings and decorations. If these were addressed we would definitely stay again, but as it currently is, we just didn't feel that comfortable there.

Dear Christopher,I will once again contact the farmer to request permission to improve the track. The owner of White Beach Holidays and ourselves are happy to fund this as a small number of guests express concern. In general the ephemera in drawers are either necessary or entertainment items eg jigsaws but I will ensure they are organised more carefully. The house was recently inspected by the agents and any issues sorted, however we are happy to deep clean/repair any issues brought to our attention. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your very positive comments as to cottage and location. Property Owner

The cottage is beautiful, warm, cosy and very well equipped. Great to have the 3 rooms so everyone had their own space. We were apprehensive about the track up to the cottage based on other comments, however, if, like us, you drive slowly and steady, it was not a problem. Can't wait to return.

We look forward to returning in the future! The beds were especially comfortable, the front room cosy, pretty flowers upon arrival and owners very accommodating. Thankyou for a lovely stay : )

  • "It would have been nice know that there were 3 sets of gates to go through."

Access to the property required a larger vehicle (not advisable for small cars) Upstairs bathroom : hot water via the tap in the sink would have been nice and the water pressure - when running the shower there was excessive banging. Plus side : plenty of fuel for the fires. the cottage was very cosy. Plenty of utensils. We did not lack for anything apart for water in the upstairs sink.

  • "We had a fantastic time at Ty Felin, it is a beautiful and traditional welsh cottage in a peaceful spot."

On arrival we were greeted with fresh flowers and a lit fire in the snug which felt warm and cosy. The kitchen is very well equipped. A short drive to plenty of beaches and lovely walks in the local area. In the previous reviews a lot of people have mentioned about the access, but I’d say that the drive is no worse than some of the country roads in Wales. It wasn’t an issue for us at all. Highly recommend.

  • "This is the first time I have stayed anywhere without a contact from the owner just someone to touch base with would of been nice."

I can’t list all the things we weren’t happy with as the place needs some love care and attention. But the bed is really comfy and the place is well stocked with cutlery saucepans plates etc. Sorry I hate leaving reviews that aren’t positive but it really does need a lot of work to make it worthy of a rental price. We own our own holiday cottage and we are forever working on it to justify a fee. It has gone past earning the quirky badge.

Dear Guests, Apologies, I have been in London for the last 2 weeks following the serious illness of my partner Peter and the uncertainty as to his recovery. Many guests visiting 'Ty Felin' enjoy its tranquillity and do not wish to make contact with myself, however on my return I will add a note to the guest book requesting guests contact me if they wish to meet me, and I will happily oblige. I have noted your other comments and will review the facilities at the cottage on my return. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our week at this cosy yet spacious cottage and the kids loved it."

Slight problem with a leaky shower but that was promptly addressed. The track was ok if you took it slowly (just rather muddy), although we did meet another car once and had to reverse which was interesting, and the gates were a pain in the rain but perfectly doable. Overall we had a lovely week and would certainly stay again.

  • "Good points: Lovely location with great views."

Beautiful cottage with lots of facilities i.e plenty of cooking equipment; comfy beds; lovely log fires. There is a lovely walk down to White Beach that will build up your calf muscles. Perfect location for getting to Penmon and Beaumaris. Bad points: Cottage had some cleanliness issues i.e rubbish left behind e.g. empty beer bottle under the table, used tissue behind the bed, an open sanitary towel in one room, dusty stairs, dog hair everywhere. My wife spent a few hours cleaning the cottage before we could really settle in. Also, there was one wall that hadn't been plastered/decorated in the living room. The road up to the cottage is an utter nightmare. It isn't really a road, it is a track of rocks that come out of the ground with a raised area in the middle, either side of the tracks. This totally destroyed my car's suspension and balance, as well as causing damage to the underside of the car. I took it to be looked at upon my return and the cost of repairing the car was over £1,000. It isn't really suitable for cars, or if you like your car then be prepared for some damage to it. The listing really should come with a warning about this 'road' (although the rest of the listing was accurate about the cottage) but I cannot stress enough how bad it is and the amount of damage it caused my car. It is a lovely cottage but the cleanliness issue was a problem, which we resolved by cleaning ourselves (although I wouldn't expect to do this, especially with Covid being an issue) but the winding road up to the cottage is just awful. Not the owner's fault I understand, it's maintained by a local farmer, or rather not maintained at all by the local farmer.

  • "A beautiful location and quirky but comfortable cottage."

Our family and dog loved it. We experienced no problems at all going up and down the track, by car, bike or walking. It added to the experience. If you look closely there are imperfections but if you want a cottage with bags of character that blends into the landscape this is it.

However, lane and track across field approaching the cottage is in poor state of repair. Very bad pot holes and uneven ground, could hear underneath of car being impacted. This would affect my decision to use the cottage again.

  • "We stayed here in March 2021."

When we arrived the floor was soaking wet in the kitchen and looked like water had been thrown over it rather than cleaned. The property was very cold and we then found a note on the dining room table saying there was a fault on the boiler and that we would need to reset it to kick start it. The note was closed with 'good luck'. After numerous attempts we got the boiler to reset and start. We lit the multi fuel fires in both rooms to warm up the property as it was a very wet and miserable evening. We were quickly out of the complimentary supply of logs and realised the boiler had knocked off again. We had not expected to rely on fires as being the only source of heat and boiling the kettle for hot water. With no other source of heat we had an early night and hoped to restart the boiler in the morning. We got up and the floor in the kitchen was still wet in places. Thankfully we did get the boiler started. My husband bought a large supply of logs, kindling and coal, just in case we couldn't keep the heating on. Yep it failed again. It seemed pointless letting the owners know given they were clearly aware of the problem. We spent the next 3 days battling with the boiler, but eventually got it to stay on. However, it was then stuck on constantly and couldn't knock it off. The road to the cottage was quite treacherous and was probably more suited for 4 wheel drive off road vehicles than our volvo s40. There was nowhere to store dry food in the kitchen other than a shelf infront of the radiator. The weather was particularly wet that week and the bedrooms were damp and walls were wet along the ceiling lines. The garden was delighful and we managed to spend one fine afternoon outside. Hopefully, the boiler has been fixed now, but based on our experience last year we wouldn't stay here again nor recommend it.

It is quite remote and out of the way being located up a rough single track, but we loved it. There were a few things that needed attention in the house but the owner had left phone numbers if we needed them. There are lovely walks from the door step and the wildlife we saw was fantastic. I personally would struggle if I had very young children in the house but slightly older ones would love it. We were sad to leave, it had been a lovely home for our week's holiday. We plan to book next door, Three Gates next time, owned by the same people as we loved the location so much.

The woollen rugs and Welsh tweed blankets were a luxury touch. Great views back to the mountains of Snowdonia from the drive above the house, but the only slight disappointment was lack of big view from the house itself. Once we found the path down to the beach, which runs down onto a narrow road before reaching a National Trust carpark and track down to sea level, we enjoyed daily visits to the peaceful and secluded small bay. Good walks readily available from the house - we hardly used the car once we arrived. We enjoyed a daily visit from a woodpecker and a pair of jays, and had a fleeting glimpse of a red squirrel.

If it's peace and quiet you're looking for than this is it. No local pub or restaurant to stroll to. Even the little village store is a good 20 minutes walk and uphill on the return! The very narrow lanes near to the property were a bit of a challenge to us city types but we rarely took the car out once we had arrived (with plenty of supplies we had picked up en route from the supermarket). The cottage is charming - loads of character and very comfortable to cook, rest and relax in. Roll -top bath a real treat after a day of walking. Friendly owners and friendly wildlife added to a very enjoyable and relaxing break.
