  • "Cottage was warm and comfy."

It was spotlessly clean. The owner left a welcome pack that was lovely. We were worried about the parking but we were always able to park. The cottage was central to everything. Jan the owner was great, had lots of recommendations of places to visit. We had a problem with the heating while there but it was fixed quickly. Amazing property.

It was lovely to meet both of you and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. With regards to the heating unfortunately when I checked with my neighbours after your stay we had a power cut which caused the timer to trip out. I responded to this within 10 mins and the house was warm for your return. Thank you very much for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "Aw we had such a lovely stay at the Tollgate Cottage."

...a stay which went over way to quickly. I don't think there is anything that Jan hasn't thought off to make a stay comfortable. The Tollgate is well placed for seeing all the sites we cycled, walked South Stack on a very blustery day and visited the Church in the Sea to name but a few of the things. My only disappointment was the weather didn't really justify putting the lovely open fire on.....but maybe next time.

It was so lovely to meet you both and have you stay at this quirky little cottage. I am glad you managed to venture out despite the weather. Hopefully we will see you again soon and we can light the fire. Regards, Jan Property Owner

Jan is lovely & welcoming, the property is only small but has everything you need. It comes with a great history having been one of a series of toll collection houses on the A5 and has been updated very thoughtfully. It's location gives the opportunity to explore the whole of the beautiful Isle of Anglesey with it's superb beaches and ancient historical sites. Highly recommended for a couple & their best friend!

Thank you for the superb feedback. It was lovely to have you both again and Luca of course. Looking forward to seeing you again. Kindest regards, Jan Property Owner

Jan the owner could not do enough for us and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived with the fire set ready to light, the lovely welcome pack including treats for the fur ball. The external area was perfect for our dog and secure. The location is in the perfect position to visit all the beauty of the island as it is in the A5. We had no issues with the noise of the traffic in my opinion if you make the most of what the island has to offer, light the fire once your head hits the pillow in the superbly comfortable bed you will wake up refreshed ready for whatever lies ahead. Thanks for making us so welcome Jan we will definitely return to see you..

  • "Delightful :) This cottage is cute, quaint and very warm and comfortable - we had ample space for our travel cot in the bedroom and plenty of living space for the two of us, our toddler and two small dogs (the conservatory is such a bonus after beach walks and we were able to wash and dry the dogs in the downstairs wet room!"

). Although I have dogs myself I am always wary of ‘dog friendly’ accommodation, but there was no such need in this case, as the whole cottage was spotless and smelled beautiful! The only downside was that I didn’t want to get out of that amazing bath!! The location was ideal to explore all of the island and very close to Aberffraw, Newborough and Rhosneigr for lovely coastal walks. The property being a Toll house (the clue is in the name!) and considering the location being a main road, there was relatively little disturbance from traffic noise, and we all slept well each night! :) Jan is the most welcoming and helpful host - our welcome pack and provisions were a lovely touch, thank you so much :)) All in all a perfect setting for our little winter holiday, enabling us to introduce our Son to everything that Wales has to offer - if you haven’t visited Nirth Wales before, please consider a day in the the exquisite Heritage Railway (dogs welcome there too!) We would definitely recommend 100% x

Been renovated to a high standard, very comfortable and cosy. Had the log fire lit most nights. As the weather was not great as expected! Met Jan the owner who was very welcoming who kindly borrowed us a dog walking book with a dog friendly pub at the end of the walk. The only 1 negative I can say is the road noise whilst in bed. Maybe look into having triple glazed windows, even if they were just in the bedroom. Thanks again.

There was no storage for our bikes the garden was not secure for our pets the owner just turned up on the grounds there was no clothes storage the entrance to the property was over soil no mop and bucket to clean with maybe it would be OK for a one night stay no longer and don't take alot of stuff second disappointing stay with sakes

Thank you for your comments and I am sorry to hear of the issues experienced. There is no bike storage at the property and sorry if this was assumed, however we make every effort to include all facilities provided in the property that are noted above in the property description. I am sorry that the welcome visit came as a surprise, we try to introduce ourselves to ensure everything is okay on arrival and offer a point of contact should you need anything. As the housekeeper was still preparing the property for your arrival, she has extremely high standards hence the polite decline of the early entry which is typically at 4.30pm. We kindly took in your belongings so you could enjoy the local area as you had arrived earlier than expected. As for storage, throughout the property there is plenty of areas to pack away clothing for your stay. 2 wheeled storage boxes under the bed, 6 wooden lidded storage boxes and 2 white baskets on the shelving unit. Further to this there are 6 wall mounted wooden hooks with coat hangers and over door set of hooks. In the hallway there are also folding wall mounted hooks, similar for the ground floor bathroom there are over door hooks. The entrance to the property has had renovation of gravel laid down. In the under stairs cupboard there is a flat mop suitable for use on the the quarry tile floors I purposely do not leave traditional mop and bucket because they could cause dampness if left wet, and also can become very smelly and offensive if damp. I trust this answers your queries and feel very saddened that you could not have discussed them with me at the time of your visit as I would have assisted in every way possible to ensure you were comfortable for your stay. Our only negative unfortunately was the seating ( the settee ) it was far too low for me as I am disabled with arthritis and found it hard to get in and out of it. Tucked away on the outskirts of Gwalchmai near Llangefni, Anglesey, is this fantastic, detached cottage, Old Tollgate.

It was built in 1823 by Thomas Telford to collect the tolls.

Thomas Telford also built the picturesque bridge over the Menai Straits.

Formerly the tollgate for the Holyhead to Llangefni road and within easy reach of the local amenities, Old Tollgate is a wonderful pet-friendly retreat for a couple, plus their small canine companion who are looking to embark on their next adventure to North Wales.

Be welcomed into the conservatory, where on cooler days, your morning coffee can be savoured in an armchair as you bask in the warmth of the electric-effect woodburning stove.

Make your way through to the kitchen, where you can look forward to rustling up culinary delights for your loved one, ready to be enjoyed at the intimate dining table for two in the dining room.

After a satisfying meal, retire to the plush sofa in the sitting room, where you can snuggle up with your better half and watch a film on the TV, as the open fire crackles nearby.

Wash away the day in the well-appointed wet room before wrapping yourself in a warm towel, courtesy of the heated towel rail.

When sleep calls, retreat to the lovely double bedroom to catch your rest.

Awake from a leisurely slumber and climb the stairs to the first floor, where you can pour in the bubbles and indulge in a soothing soak in the beautiful roll top bath, with the added bonus of a bath tray to rest your favourite book on!

Explore your local surroundings, where you will find the welcoming Tafarn Y Rhos just a short drive away, offering tasty meals and local ales, all within a delightful, pet-friendly setting.

Continue on towards Llangefni, where there is an excellent choice of eateries, along with scenic walking opportunities along the Afon Cefni and through The Dingle Nature Reserve, a great opportunity to spot the local wildlife particularly red squirrels.

For a day at the beach, head over to Benllech where you can bathe on the sands, paddle the clear waters and easily access the delights of the nearby Red Wharf Bay.

In the other direction are the beaches and dunes of Aberffraw tn enjoy, which are where Prince William and Kate enjoyed many enjoyable walks.

If you and your other half are looking to test out your clubs, the Storws Wen Golf Club is readily available offering 9-holes through impressive parkland as well as Rhosneigr Golf Club also.

Further afield, you will find Holyhead, here you can embark on the expansive Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path which boasts some of the best views in the area, along with its own golf club, a picturesque marina and a ferry service which offers trips over to Dublin, a fabulous choice for a memorable day trip!
