  • "We had two Anglesey holiday homes on our shortlist but Tyn Y Berth won as she has an “open fire” and a “hot tub” according to Sykes website."

Unfortunately the open fire is actually gas and the hot tub after tripping off on the Sunday became a cold tub as it then failed to warm up the rest of week making it unusable. The kitchen is well equipped with utensils, crockery, pans etc the living room furniture is comfy and the beds were clean and comfortable. It is warm, sometimes too warm as the heating is on to avoid condensation on the thick walls but I think it is more likely because the house has a serious problem with damp on the side wall. It is in a fantastic location for visiting lots of great places. Unfortunately, there are a lot of negatives of which to list a few are the very wet wall in the main bedroom which also has a wardrobe with one door, the other is propped up against the side of the wardrobe, the cupboard under the sink is dirty and the paintwork on the staircase to be frank is a disgrace. I note having read some reviews when we got home that this was mentioned previously and the owners responded that it was because the wrong paint had been used and they would be rectifying this problem week commencing 12th August. As our visit was w/c 30th September I can only assume they meant 2024! Overall the general upkeep of the house and garden is really not good. The bushes at the front of the house are overgrown spoiling what would be a lovely view and the paving is full of weeds. The house does not warrant the amount of money it costs to stay there and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to family or friends in its present condition.

Fantastic views from every window. Bad points in desperate need of some tlc missing wardroom door, bedroom draws don't shut properly, damp in bathroom and master bedroom, bottom oven doesn't work, kitchen cupboards faulty.front yard area, parking area full of weeds and hedges not cut, garden and pots around need sorting. Hot tub only has one set of jets working. Things have been noted in house keeping book but obviously not followed up. Pictures are misleading as its not as well kept.

  • "After we had booked this short break I read a few reviews from previous guests and I’m not going to lie I was worried and annoyed at myself that I hadn’t read them before booking, but I’m glad I didn’t as I may not of booked."

I was expecting loads of issues and whilst I agree the property needs a little TLC to address areas of damp and some parts need painting touch ups, I feel these are minor issues and some of the reviews are unfair. I did notice the owners response to one review which states they are decorating very soon so I would definitely consider returning again and it would be nice to see the improvements. We had a lovely four night stay here. Weather was in our favor, so we got to use the hot tub, which was in good working order and clean. Previous reviews stated the hot tub was overlooked, but personally, (and I am self conscious) didn’t feel like any passing traffic would be able to see us. We put a bit of music on low and we found it relaxing and hardly noticed any traffic noise at all. The views from the hot tub are amazing too. The property itself was really cosy and we loved all the special touches, such as board games, dvds, books, smart tvs and the binoculars to look out over the sea. The kitchen was great, loads of utensils, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, oven, kettle, toaster, all clean and in perfect working order. There were lots of essentials to get us going such as dishwasher tablets, fairy liquid, toilet rolls, etc, which we thought was really good till we got the chance to get settled in and do a bit of shopping, then we replaced what we had used. Bedrooms and bathroom were clean and plenty towels were supplied and these smelled so lovely and were really soft. So the only things we would like to see to improve the stay are: blackout blinds in all bedrooms, a few more coat hangers, decorating to areas that need it, bit of attention to the outside area such as weeding and maybe some plants. Other than that it was perfect and Thankyou for letting us stay. Things we loved: The property was homely and welcoming. We loved the views and the proximity of the property to nearby beaches, shops and some really good restaurants. We loved Dylan’s and The Tavern on the Bay. The chippy behind Tesco express was also great but got really busy! Thanks for renting out this lovely property and we hope to visit again soon.

  • "The hot tub tripped out on us the first night we were there."

My husband tried calling the owner that same night but only go through to him the next morning. He then advised how to fix it but we were out for the day and so couldn’t sort until we got back that evening meaning that the hot tub had not warmed up sufficiently for us that night. We finally got to us tether hot tub on the third day, not ideal as we were leaving the next day!!! The property is also very tired and could do with some updating and decoration work to hide the damp marks and stains. The stair bannister could also do with a good clean!!!

Thank you for the feedback. Tyn Y Berth will be back to her beautiful self in time for the Autumn walkers and our regular visitors. We are sorry for any issues with the hot tub, we can not allow for the way the tub is used by guests and it seems that someone had inadvertently damaged it. It has now been attended to and It has been repaired. We have arranged for redecoration at the end of this summer, the bannister looks that way because I used the wrong paint which has permanently marked/stained. It doesn't look good but isn't dirty and it drives our excellent cleaner mad. I have promised to sort it/paint it w/c 12th August. Property Owner

The view is a real treat and all the bedrooms have a sea view. Disappointed with hot tub - close to the main road and not very private - having to walk from the house to the tub going past a gate which isn't very private wasn't ideal. Even putting some kind of gazebo or hessian around the tub to make it more secluded would be better. Extra towels for hot tub would have been a good idea aswell. No welcome hamper either on arrival - most places leave at least some milk for the guests on arrival. Kitchen extremely cold compared to the rest of the house which was stiffling hot at times. Damp in corner of living room by fireplace - not sure if this is being addressed? Lack of toilet rolls, not enough for number of guests. Overall though, the stay was nice and definitely in a great location. Just needs a few tweeks.

  • "He only thing going for this property are the lovely views, which can currently only be enjoyed from upstairs, as the overgrown shrubs and bushes to the front of the property and garden block the views."

It looks lovely on the photos but definitely in need of a good clean, general upkeep and essential maintenance! En-suite toilet didn’t flush properly due to bodged incorrect flush system. The bath tap/hand held attachment leaked off the roll top bath onto the mucky floor underneath, we tried to stop this with towels but it ended up leaking through the ceiling and downstairs electrics! Which resulted in us unable to use it at all due to safety. Paint peeling off the ceiling over the shower, which lands on you when showering. Paint peeling off walls and damp patches all over the property. Stains on cushions and throws. Dust and cobwebs on light fittings and under furniture. Uneven floors upstairs. Cheap flat pillows on the beds, although the beds themselves were comfortable. Cupboard and drawer units difficult to open/close. Outside the back door was very slippery due to excessive bird poo due to nests above. Front door couldn’t be used due to excessive weeds and hole in the floor in the front porch (currently covered by carpet!) Driveway and garden excessively overgrown with weeds and nettles. Definitely avoid if taking young children. Old hot tub cover dumped on the driveway. Hot tub is set up on a raised patio with a large step up to it, not easy for elderly guests or people with mobility issues. The hot tub would only work properly half at a time. Although it is a six seater hot tub the information book says only three people are allowed in at once?!? Two mismatched uncomfortable benches are the only outdoor seating. Tin opener didn’t work. Kitchen bin lid broken. Instructions say you are not allowed to touch the heating it is preset to the owners requirements. (thank goodness we visited in summer). Also the property is on a very busy road, which didn’t bother us but something to be aware of if traveling with young children or dogs. I do believe this house could be lovely again if the issues are rectified, in the current state it seams it is just a money making opportunity and not a home from home that people expect when paying this kind of money.

Show less Date of stay: July 2022 This is our first full season and we are very grateful to have had back to back bookings during the peak period. However, this also makes it difficult to attend to maintenance issues and we block time off for general maintenance off peak. However, we will, of course, respond to issues of an urgent matter. During the 2 day period between your booking and the next guests, we have managed to address the majority of the issues that you have raised. The property has been decorated, where required, we have changed the covers on the sofas, the flush has been replaced, the bath tap has been replaced, the garden/driveway has been tidied up. The hot tub is accessible via a path to the side of the garage and was in working order. We have also discussed concerns raised with the cleaning company. Whilst not particularly relevant, just to confirm the heating is set to a comfortable temperature, in the winter months, and the feedback has been that the property is lovely and warm. We have to disagree with some of the language used ‘botched’, ‘cheap’, ‘money making opportunity’. We have lovingly refurbished and furnished the property into a welcoming, comfortable home, as confirmed by our other guests. The majority of the issues raised have occurred over time and are down to general wear and tear caused by the property being in regular use, but regard should also be given to the fact that the property is over 100 years old. • "This cottage is set in beautiful surroundings but unfortunately did not live up to our expectations."

The main problem being it was filthy! There was dust and cobwebs, very grubby light switches and walls and some mouldy corners. Considering we are in the middle of a global pandemic we were very disappointed with the hygiene standards and had to anti bacterially clean through on arrival. There were stains and spills on chair and sofas so we sat on our own throws throughout the holiday. Also a strong smell of dog which wasnt pleasant. The handle to the utility cupboard kept falling off, the blind in the master bedroom was broken and the hot tap on the bath was knackered! A clean, new toilet brush between guests would be nice! There wasnt a doormat at all and the fake grass near the hot tub was a tripping hazard. The house keeping book had wrong information about bin emptying day so we put it out almost every day until it was finally emptied on a Friday. An outdoor table and chairs would have been appreciated as the bench didnt fit all 6 of us. With a little thought and at a small cost these issues could be put right and the cottage would be perfect.

Thank you for the feedback. Rest assured, it has all been dealt with, we expect 100% feedback again and look forward to staying at Tyn Y Berth ourselves! We have replaced the sofa covers, deep cleaned and decorated the house and attended any items of maintenance including replacing the blinds for curtains & the door handle. There is now outdoor seating/furniture and we have updated the literature. The local authority bin men will only empty specific rubbish on a specific day and only if the bin is wheeled out to the pavement. We now have a mixed waste bin and private contractor, so bins are no longer an issue. You mentioned a global pandemic, this meant the government would not allow us to visit the properly for maintenance, so the house was empty and unloved for a short period. If you have read this far, read the other feedback and book with Sykes. Property Owner

  • "We booked this for our wedding anniversary as we weren’t able to go abroad to the villa we had booked."

I love Anglesey and was excited for our stay, we wanted a decent size place in a decent location and a hot tub was a major factor especially due to the weather forecast. Literally as we were setting off about 4pm we were called by the owner to be told that the hot tub had broken that morning and was trying to get it fixed but was likely to be the last day of our stay at the earliest - obviously this was extremely disappointing and my wife was very upset but we tried to stay positive, hope for the best and understood things like this can happen. When we arrived the outside was untidy with food on the floor near the bins and the garden was quite unkept. The hot tub was situated in an open area at the side of the house in open sight of the front of the neighbours house and main road with no overhead structure like shown in the pictures. The location was great, not far from the beach, sea and nice local towns. The hot tub wasn’t fixed at any point during our stay and had to chase up the owner to see about developments. The owner did offer to pay for lunch at a local place but we said that we had already booked Dylan’s for our anniversary and didn’t hear anything back. We asked about a refund and he said he didn’t see a problem with that but asked us to speak to Sykes, we called Sykes and they understood why this was such a let down and said they would come back to us. We hadn’t heard anything back so we called again later the next day (day of departure), Sykes said they had tried to call the owner but hadn’t heard back and said they would try and get hold of the owner again to see what he was happy to offer us (which was surprising considering the owner seemed to make out that it was Sykes’s decision), anyway, they called back quite quickly and said the owner would give us £45 which was massively disappointing and not a refund or even compensation that reflects what we had lost in any way and we expressed this to Sykes and they said they would speak to the owner again and come back to us, we have still not heard anything and this is over a week so we just feel let down. We are both very busy people and this was a much needed getaway and celebration and we just don’t have the time for chasing things like this up. I don’t like being negative and I don’t like writing negative things, I’m a landlord myself so may be a little more understanding that others would be when things go wrong but I also go to the ends of the earth to make sure things are right with my houses for my tenants even if I’m at a loss.

  • "The house was clean."

But we had high winds, which meant the letter box on front door rattled constantly and the front door may as well have been open with the draught that blew through it. The kitchen was like being in a fridge and when any cooking was done condensation from cooker hood drip into the food I was cooking. We always choose a cottage with a hot tub in the winter months and this is why this cottage was chosen. But the temperature never got above 29 degrees Celsius so we couldn't use it. When we told the owner this he just replied that it was too windy to have used it anyway!! Which is beside the point. There was a lot of damp in the house , next to the fire place in main sitting room there was actually a pile of damp residue on the floor. The master bedroom had damp patches all over the one wall. It felt as though the cottage has been done up to quickly be put on the holiday letting market. We were unable to use the front door as it was permanently locked so the only way we could get out was the back door this I'm sure poses a real threat to life if there was a fire in the building .

Dear Mrs Dovey, I am sorry you had some issues during your stay. The door is admittedly weathered and is due to be replaced when the house is next vacant. As for the damp and temperature, someone has turned off all the radiator valves! There is instruction in the welcome pack not to do so and the house is heated to 21C. We ask that guests open a window if it’s too hot to prevent condensation on the historic 700mm thick stone walls of Tyn Y Berth. Due to tampering of the heating controls, there was flaking paint caused by condensation. We have repainted this and reset the heating. In terms of the locked door, Tyn Y Berth has a brand new heat/smoke/Co2 and Fire detection, all hard wired into the mains and certified. All the opening windows operate as means of escape windows in the case of fire. We can assure you that these issues have been addressed. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner
