  • "We had a lovely stay at Hawthorn Cottage, well equipped and comfortable."

Great base for visiting Anglesey, lovely pubs and restaurants in the town and beautiful walks. Would book hawthorn cottage again, was good to have parking permit for car park.

  • "Loved the location."

Great style in the apartment, interesting and unusual. Parking permit a huge plus. Found it a bit dusty and some areas needed a clean (bathroom bin, side of kitchen units etc). No info left on how to dispose of rubbish and recycling so had to leave these, sorry. Bed was super! I love a firm mattress so appreciated this. A hairdryer would have been handy plus a bit more loo roll but other than that a lovely place to stay, ideally situated.

Dear Guests Pleased you really seemed to have enjoyed your stay at Little Hawthorn and found it interesting and unusual. It is indeed comfortable. There was a hairdryer ? I will wipe the sides of the cupboard apologies I just didn't notice and recycling is in the yard in labelled boxes Thank You Vera Property Owner

  • "Description of property is not accurate."

The property is a small flat above a florist on the main road in Menai. Directions to the property are difficult to follow. The property has no information whosoever. We didn't even realise you could enter/exit from the main road when the shop was closed as it appeared to be part of the shop. Similarly, you have to enter/exit the property through the neighbours back garden and no information is included as to whether we had access to the garden or could use the garden. We had to hunt for the wifi password, found it eventually on the bottom of the router. TV kept loosing signal and after two days we discovered you could access Amazon, iplayer, Youtube, Netflix etc but again, no information or instruction. I've NEVER stayed at a self-catering cottage that didn't have very basic condiments (salt, vinegar, sugar) most usually have at least a few tea bags and a pint of milk. Ceilings are very low in the bathroom and bedroom. Cleanliness quite poor, not dirty but in need of a thorough clean. Faint smell of cat wee. Slug trails visible around kitchen area.

Dear Rob, I have re-read the agents description which states an apartment etc It does also state a loft and therefore expect lower ceilings. It is not the neighbours garden and is available to all staying at Little Hawthorn. There is a book with WiFi code, etc which I maybe I neglected to leave out on the table. Sorry I didn't know there were so many channels on the TV but the manual is available for guests. I will speak with the agents to clarify entrances x2 but I am pleased I was able to help you on arrival. All in all I hope your short break was enjoyable. Thank You Property Owner

Location was also great for exploring the Island and North Wales.

  • "Great quirky little cottage."

Loved all the retro, eclectic decoration. There is a vintage home and garden shop which operates in the courtyard below which is beautiful and compliments the flat- hard to resist buying all the amazing things. Great base to explore Anglesey.

  • "Lovely property in a wonderful location."

Only negative was that there was no outside space for my dog. This was problematic as a lone parent with a young child who I put to bed early, and a dog who needs a wee later in the evening.

  • "Little Hawthorn is in a great location to explore Anglesey and the area of Menai."

The property is quirky and fab. The car parking pass is a great addition. The pictures of the property and courtyard area need updating as in the pictures it looks like you could sit in the courtyard but in fact there is a small florist/antique business below that takes up the courtyard. Also the property amenities need to be updated as I telephoned Menai holidays before our stay and was advised there was no washing machine or iron but in fact there was which was a great plus.

  • "Little Hawthorn is a very quirky apartment in a very convenient position."

Val is a very pleasant host and the restoration shop owners were delightful. Parking was OK, with a car park behind the property and an island parking pass that allowed us to park for free anywhere on the island. The apartment is very well equipped, with ample storage and a lovely little wood burner. One real bonus was the sandwich bar next door, and a super bread shop four doors away. We can strongly recommend the Freckled Angel, Dylan’s and the Liverpool Arms for eating out.

  • "This was perfect for us."

We were planning on using the buses to walk sections of the coast path and Menai village was an excellent hub to enable us to do this. In addition, the village has two top class restaurants, an excellent baker and a butcher that someone descibed as "the best in the UK". The flat was comfortable, had everything we needed to cook, was not noisy despite being on the high street, had adequate wifi and suited us perfectly. A bonus was the parking permit that, on the one day that we took the car out, enabled us to park for free on the other side of the island. Anglesey itself (my first visit) had wonderful walking and superb views over to Snowdonia or over to the Llen Peninsula.

  • "Little Hawthorne was really cute."

The key safe was a but if a nightmare to open, but eventually managed to prize it open. In order to access the accomodation you have to walk through the very cute yard of an antique shop. The owners of the shop live in the attached building and were always nearby as we were coming and going to give us local tips and recommendations. Could be seen as intrusive depending on your persuasion. Very cute place though and very convenient accommodation for Menai Bridge.

Tucked away in the corner of a wonderful courtyard shop full of exotic plants and curiosities, the flat is beautifully furnished with comfy cushions, bright rugs and a cosy woodburner, making a wonderful little nest to escape the world for a while. Everything needed was to hand and made to feel extremely welcome.

Menai Bridge has many great shops including the fabulous Hawthorn Yard, restaurants, cafes and takeaways and Waitrose is close by too. Be sure to check out the beautiful Belgian Promenade - just a short walk from Little Hawthorn. Access to the property is via the high street or the car park - we never had any issue parking and the free council car parking pass was really useful parking across the island too.

  • "The hosts were incredibly nice and helpful."

We got there a bit earlier but it was already ready for us and we could check in straightaway. The flat is not for people who cannot climb stairs. The living room is quite spacious but the upstairs is not really for tall people. The bathroom could do with a bit of modernisation and it smelled a bit funny but since it was the summer we kept the window open. The flat has everything you need and it is quite quirky but maybe taking away some of the bric a brac and decorations would make it a bit less cluttered and cleaner. We would definitely return if the toilet was in better condition. Thanks for a lovely stay. The place is interesting! And we would like to go back to see how the cats are doing :)

  • "On arrival at the property the keys were not in the security box (the code we had been given was already clearly displayed on the box and the box was open with no keys inside) so we were unable to get into the property."

After a call to menaiholidays I was told to phone the owner directly to sort the problem. We had to wait in the car park for her to arrive to let us in. It was unclear why the keys had not been left for us. Even had the keys been left we felt it would have been very difficult to find the correct property within the crowded courtyard with its many doors! It seemed strange that more explicit instructions as to the correct door to the property had not been included in the access instructions. Also - normally information is available in holiday properties about outside bins, how appliances/heating work etc - but we could not find anything. Still not sure where the bins were! The key problem made for a disappointingly inhospitable start to our holiday and certainly an unprofessional one. I hope this does not happen for anyone else.

Open tread stairs lead up to the bright, comfy double bedroom with en-suite shower, loo, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.
