  • "This is a property I have always wanted to stay at and whilst it lived up to the pictures with great open spaces and spectacular views it was slightly marred by the fact that it was quite dusty / dirty, maybe not helped by the torrential rain but we needed to hover everywhere and one of the beds looked like it had been slept in and had hairs in it."

Finally one of the blinds in the first bedroom was broken. This didn't massively detract for the overall beauty of the property but seems to be a theme of the menai cottages I have stayed ion lately and definitely wasn't something I ever encountered when I first started using menai cottages back in 2010

We take our cleanliness of the property very serious, and have spoken to the house keeper and agent. They inform me of no reports regarding the property even about the blind during your stay ? We do have a number that is available to all guests at anytime should you have ANY ISSUES what so ever and we try to get all matters rectified immedietly. We are very sorry the weather wasnt kind to you during your stay. Waterside owners Property Owner

  • "This is a very well-presented property with plenty of room for comfortable living."

The kitchen is well-equipped, the bathrooms are all modern and there is plenty of hot water at all times of the day. The living room is a great family space and the dining table is a good size, in a lovely position overlooking the water. Bonuses: the sofas were very comfortable and there was ample seating for 6 of us; the Christmas tree and decorations were a thoughtful touch as was the bottle of wine on arrival. The house is a short walk from the town where there are walks, shops and cafes within easy reach. A couple of minus points: there were no logs left for us for the first night as promised; the bathroom window on the top floor was stuck open - we eventually managed to close it on our last day; the large stainless steel saucepan does not work on the ceramic hob, which took us a long while to realise as we tried to boil water for pasta for hungry arrivals - maybe remove it?! ; the downstairs front bedroom smelled fusty; we found the duvets a little thin for winter; there is a damp problem on the wall of the living room with peeling paint in the corner (which you are obviously addressing with the dehumidifier); nobody replied to my message on 27th Dec about the flooding at the entrance to the house - we did eventually see the sandbags in the dark, however there was no advice in the house file about the possibility of flooding which would have been useful to have read beforehand.

  • "Wow - what a place - the location is wonderful - the vista changes with every turn of the tide!"

The owners have thought of everything and the property wants for nothing… To sit of an evening with the log fire roaring, a glass of wine in hand, watching the swans meander through the water is one of life’s simple pleasures… We would definitely go back! The owners clearly do everything they can to keep the property to the highest standard but remember it is built into the side of a river so some damp does seep through - but this isn’t a criticism as they have tried to combat that by installing a dehumidifier… We can’t recommend it highly enough!

  • "A hidden gem!"

We have stayed in a number of cottages with Sykes in Anglesey. Waterside has been the very best! It is a beautiful property in an excellent location to enjoy both Anglesey and North Wales. Beds were very comfortable, very clean house and well equipped kitchen. The lounge is so cosy and has a lovely view of menai strait. Do not be put off by the road - you can hardly hear traffic and it isn't overly busy. The patio areas are a real sun trap. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer.

  • "We have all enjoyed a fantastic stay at Waterside."

The house itself and its location have both been wonderful. The property is of a high standard and very comfortable with everything needed for a fantastic holiday. However we did not appreciate the 7 lectures regarding the recycling from the neighbour. Three times he went through our bins and "told us off" for not doing it correctly. He interrupted our dinner one evening over the back wall to once again reprimand us over the recycling and perhaps the biggest insult of all he passed comment on how many bottles we had put in the recycling bin. We are a group of busy professionals who have come away on holiday and enjoy a drink or two, however it shouldn't matter if we are doctors and lawyers or unemployed or minimum wage workers. Anyone paying £2000 plus for a weeks holiday would be entitled to enjoy a drink if they so wished. It seemed that every time we left the property or put rubbish in the bins he was there waiting to give us another lecture. It made us all feel uncomfortable and did impact the enjoyment of our stay. We would think twice about returning or recommending Waterside due to this which is a shame because its an ideal holiday location.

I’m glad you have enjoyed the property, we have spoken to our neighbour and have informed him we have a commercial bin that is separated by the provider. Apologies for this but this is out of our control and has now been rectified. Property Owner

What a lovely area to explore too. It would be worth noting that there are many stairs so not best for those less active. The following is meant constructively:- the kitchen utensils /pots and pans need replacing. Chipped glasses and unusable roasting pan. Saucepans were non stick and badly flaking. Fridge freezer needs defrosting and many of the doors in it were cracked.

We have all been two years ago last October. This time the weather was a lot warmer and our holiday was great. There is so much to do with fabulous places no more than half an hour away. The cottage is absolutely fabulous with the most glorious views from all balconies. We saw kingfishers, little egrets, herons, so many ducks which were so amusing as were all this years birds and even a red squirrel. The cottage was so comfy and has everything that you could need. We wanted for nothing. I will certainly be booking Waterside again. Fantastic.

It may be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The location in Menai Bridge is perfect for exploring ANGLESEA and SNOWDONIA. As it is a 4 bed room property it is a good family location but all the beds are doubles. The ability to configure at least some beds as twins would be an advantage.

Area at the front of the property around the bins was dirty and we had to sweep it. Dud lightbulbs in 4 of the lights in the house. The fitted sheet on one of the double beds was the wrong size and kept coming off. The television was broken ie had a 6inch wide strip of snow down the centre. The outside furniture was rusty and tired The window in the kitchen faced a wall covered in mould and dirt. Very unsightly! We left a charger in a socket which we discovered when we left. £15(extortionate) to have it returned which we paid a week ago. Still it isn’t here! You say that owners get complacent but the properties are advertised in your name, not theirs. 25 minutes on the phone to speak to anyone at Sykes, promised a response today. Still no contact from you. This property cost £2400 to rent for a week. We expected much better from Sykes and the owners they represent. Needless to say we won’t use them again!

Lovely outlook. We found the stairs a bit too much at times but we are in our 70’s and although fairly fit it’s a hike from the lounge to the first floor bedrooms. Perhaps worth mentioning as it would be a difficult house for anyone with mobility issues. We also thought the frontage didn’t do justice to this beautiful home, it looks a little tired from the outside. Unfortunately I was taken ill while there and we had to cut our holiday short but we would love to go back at some point in the future.

Property was ideal for a group of adults with a baby, but I wouldn’t recommend to stay in this property with young children due to the various steps and water edge location. • "Although not Menai Cottage remit, the cottage owners left a booklet with instructions but some of it was left blank, for example when the refuse collection was - had to ask the people next door."

Too many remote controls on the table with no instructions what was what. The television did not work in the room that I stayed in - no signal apparently coming up and again 2 remote controls and not instructions. The cottage had big windows - but they were not clean and had finger marks over them, as this cottage is advertised for its views across the Menai straight - it was a pity that the windows were not clean. As this stay was work related it was very convenient for us to get to the Eisteddfod in Bodedern. I would recommend Menai Cottage to people and if I was up in North Wales again on holiday would certainly look at Menai Cottage website.
