  • "Well equipped cottage but didn’t use the oven as it was dirty!"

    It needs a professional clean!

  • "My wife and I, together with our daughter and grandson, are very unhappy and deeply troubled by the poor standard of cleanliness and hygiene we encountered at the above address which we booked through Sykes."

The issues listed below, and for which we have some photographic evidence, require attention and investigation: 1) Several urine stains on the mattress protector of the double bed in the master bedroom which we only discovered when we stripped the bed at the end of our stay. (The cleaner must have seen these as the beds were made following the departure of the previous guests!) This is disgusting and totally unacceptable on all levels. 2) There is no heating whatsoever in any room downstairs. Unfortunately, it was inclement weather during our stay and we were cold being unable to warm ourselves downstairs every morning at breakfast and then again after having been out and then returning to the property wet and cold! We would have appreciated having been advised of this as it would most certainly have influenced our selection. 3) The bin lid in the kitchen is temperamental and had to be weighted down. This was inconvenient and far more importantly, a hygiene issue! 4) All the skirting boards were covered in dust and the base of the landing hand-rail even had hairs on it! Also, there was dust on the headboards of the 2 single beds. Consequently, we would like to know what cleaning actually takes place as standard procedure in the Sykes holiday homes and what checks are in place to ensure standards are maintained. 5) Some of the towels provided had unidentifiable white stains on them! 6) The extractor fans in the bathroom and downstairs W.C. need checking. 7) There was no key available to unlock the window of the downstairs W.C. to allow for ventilation. 8) The black bin was 2/3 full and we could only find room for 3 plastic bottles in the plastics recycling bin. Clearly the bins hadn’t been emptied and there were no instructions for putting them out. Unfortunately we have been unable to contact Sykes by telephone and although we understand the lines are busy, it begs the question: what would have happened had we had problems gaining access to the property on arrival, for example? To conclude, we are bitterly disappointed with the accommodation and shocked and disgusted by the urine stained mattress protector cover we had been laying on all week. I think it speaks volumes that even our eight year old grandson was upset by the accommodation and we find ourselves increasingly apologetic and trying to convince him that this is not typical of all houses in Wales! My wife and I are deeply upset that our family holiday was marred in such a fashion as we would never knowingly have subjected ourselves to it at any cost, let alone £1451.00 for 5 nights!
