! The house is exactly as listed and the location is one of the most picturesque locations I have ever been. The contact with the property owner was spot on and every time we had a query it was dealt with in a professional and timely manner. I have no doubt that we will be visiting Pant Yr Hyman again soon.

Thank you for such a lovely review! I'm glad the house was so well enjoyed by you and your family. We would be delighted to welcome you back any time. Property Owner

  • "Family Christmas break."

I would first like to start with the positives: Anna the owner text the day we were arriving and was very quick to respond to any queries we had A lovely hamper was left in the kitchen for us and was very welcome The house was very spacious and perfect for us as a family Plenty of seating in the living room with comfy sofas, and a large table Kitchen is very well equipped and the oven works well- which was a blessing as we cooked Christmas dinner! Bedrooms spacious, beds comfortable and everywhere was clean. Fabulous views Pub is great and happily welcomes children and dogs, and the walk down to the beach from there is lovely. Negatives: I feel it should state in the description how narrow the gates and the lane is leading up to the house. We all have 4x4’s of varying sizes and it was very tight, a bigger car than ours would really struggle. We had a Tesco delivery and the van couldn’t get through- we had to go down in one of the cars and transfer the shopping. The heating was off when we arrived, and took quite a while to heat up the house. To be fair once it had been on a while the place was toasty- especially when we got the fire going. It would just have been more welcoming if the house had been warm when we arrived. The description states ‘a walk to the pub’ -well certainly not with a toddler over fields and in bad weather. I’d class a walk to a pub as 10-15mins, the pub in question is much further than that Do not push shut the wooden front door, you will never open it again! Lovely as the house is, it looks a little tired and needs some TLC All in all we had a lovely time, even though the weather was awful, but for us the property was too remote

Thank you very much for sharing such detailed feedback - it's very useful both for areas of improvement and also for future guests. Yes the house is very rural and as such is accessible down narrow country lanes. The good news is that removal lorries, oil delivery trucks and maintenance vans can all access the property so we've not yet had a situation where it's not been possible for a guest to get there, but it definitely requires careful concentration if you drive a larger car! Unfortunately Tescos delivery drivers have recently started to refuse to come through the gate but other supermarkets will do. I can only apologise that the heating wasn't on and will provide the feedback to the house-keeping team. Luckily the boiler is very effective! The porch door does swell in winter months but was particularly bad due to the adverse weather - my apologies for any inconvenience caused to your party. We will get this fixed. The guest information states the pub is a 25 minute walk and this was timed based on an average adult walking pace. As the pace of children varies, we don’t provide indicative walking times for the little ones. I am so glad you and your family enjoyed the house and its facilities over the Christmas break and thank you for sharing all the positives. We will certainly look at the feedback that can be addressed. If only we could do something about the weather too! Property Owner

  • "The location was spectacular and, with a few changes, the house could be too."

We arrived to a power cut in a storm and unfortunately could not locate any candles or firewood in the house. After 30 mins searching a huge house with my phone torch, I gave up and decided to go to the supermarket to buy wood and candles. We were later informed that there were candles in a dresser in the snug but this was too late. The promised firewood in the description turned out to be 2 bags of kindling in the outhouse and no fire lighters. I think a fire should be made up, ready to light in winter maybe. At the very least, logs should be ready in the basket. We arrived and 5.30pm in the freezing cold driving rain and the power was restored at around 10.30pm. I appreciate power cuts can’t be avoided. Once the power was back, we could start our weekend in earnest. The house is spacious, especially for two families as we were able to take an end of the house each. Once we could access the hot water, there was plenty. The bathrooms could do with being updated (weak power showers and wobbly toilet seats) but they were clean. The house heats up well and is cosy for the most part (two bedrooms’ radiators maybe need bleeding as they stayed cool). The outside space is great and the view is fabulous. The improvements are minor but would greatly impact the experience. Soap, washing up liquid, more tea towels, new toilet seats, power cut pack and firewood: all would be greatly appreciated in this uniquely located holiday home.

  • "Beautiful location and well equipped house."

Stunning master bedroom with amazing views. We saw seals and a baby pup on the shingle. The children thoroughly enjoyed the toys. Thank you. A very generous welcome pack when we arrived but could have done with just a couple of dishwasher tablets or washing up liquid to see us through the first evening. Anna very quick to respond to any issues. A lovely holiday for us all.

Thank you John - amazing you got to see seal pups! It's so thrilling when you see a family of seals. They live in the caves nearby so we've seen quite a few when we've been out paddleboarding and it's a very magical moment being up close to these gorgeous animals in their natural habitat. There should always be a cleaning pack with dishwasher tablets, cloths etc so I'm very sorry to hear these were missing. In future please do flag anything like this on arrival and someone can pop over with anything that's missing ASAP. Glad you all had a good time. Property Owner

The house is situated in such a beautiful location overlooking the sea , large garden, beautiful sunsets especially viewed from the sun terrace off one of the bedrooms was amazing , great walks to local little coves for the grandchildren to explore and collect shells ! The house has every amenity you could want - home from home ! A lovely basket of goodies to welcome us , lots of information about the area, board games, toys, Lego and books ! Beautiful large main bedroom with stunning views , the other bedrooms also had amazing views so you didn’t feel left out even if you had a smaller bedroom ! The gate to the drive is narrow, but my son managed to get his VW transporter camper van through easily (after reading some other reviews we were worried we wouldn’t get it through the gate ) the sheep on the drive to the house however, certainly think they own the area and love to stand and stare you out ! We have all had an amazing holiday , and Anna the owner was extremely helpful if we had any queries !

Hi Sue, happy birthday to you and I’m so glad you enjoyed your celebration at Pant Yr Hyman. We do try and cater for all ages and needs as much as possible in the house, but of course the best thing we can offer is the spectacular views and location, with the balcony being the perfect way to enjoy the sunsets! The view out over the Irish Sea was spectacular and we enjoyed cliff top walks and the little nearby coves. Rhoscolyn beach was nice especially since dogs could run free on the sand but the car park is small so it was important to get there early. The remote site of the house was difficult to find especially since the sign by the last gate was partially hidden by the hedge. However when you found it, the house was beautiful and very peaceful. We hired a hot tub which was enjoyed by all.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and got some fabulous sunsets. Yes it really is a hidden gem but I’ll the hedge cut back which will help others in the future! Thank you. Property Owner

More furniture/drawers are also needed as there is very little places to unpack clothes. The shower in the En-suite has issues draining. However these were only small issues that can be easily rectified and we enjoyed staying at the house. The location is very private with stunning views and walks and the house has lots of space for everyone.

Hi Jillian, thank you for your feedback. Glad you enjoyed the stunning views & surroundings and the house was enjoyed by your family. I have discussed with Menai and we will consider a more detailed description of the layout. Guests usually find there is plenty of storage for their belongings with several wardrobes & chests of drawers available but I will monitor this and provide additional space if needed. Comfort - single bed (balcony room & downstairs bedroom) were uncomfortable; most quilts were not warm enough for time of year; sofa dipped when you sat on it; dining room chair was broken Facilities & maintenance - power button on dishwasher was temperamental; damp in kitchen, lounge & utility; plug in bath wouldn’t hold water; 2 radiators not working; couldn’t get main oven to work; no instructions on oven; no instructions on what waste to recycle, how to separate it & what to do with ash from fire; most bathroom/toilet fittings (towel & toilet roll) were loose; carpets fraying on door thresholds. Such a shame as the house is in a fantastic setting & you can see where the owner has carried out modernisation but it is in need of a thorough deep clean, paintwork touch up & some updating

Thank you very much for providing your feedback. This of course is very disappointing to hear as we strive to ensure our guests have a fabulous experience, so please accept my apologies that this wasn't the case for you personally. It also comes as a surprise as we exchanged several messages and I was under the impression we had dealt with your issues satisfactorily. As no problems were reported by previous guests, we weren’t aware of anything needing addressing. The cooker apparently not working was rectified by turning it on at the wall, all the information relating to operating the appliances, dealing with recycling/rubbish, logs, heating etc was included in the guest information pack sent to you ahead of your stay (with printed copies left in the house), and my maintenance man came the following day to fix the radiators etc. It was lovely to hear back from you during your stay that you were all having a great time and that you're grandchildren loved the house in particular, and a relief that these issues didn't get in the way of your enjoyment of the property. Unfortunately, previous guests had dogs which damaged the carpet which is being replaced shortly during my maintenance visit. I've booked an upholstery clean for the sofa, and will check the mattresses; bed comfort is subjective and hasn't previously been reported. As explained to you, the house has just been re-wired - it's an old property with stone walls, so some patches of new plasterwork are taking longer to fully dry out in the cold weather. Dead flies on the windowsill of course creates a negative first impression for which I can only apologise, and of course I will investigate this. However, hopefully future guests will be encouraged by previous highly complementary feedback which includes many 5* reviews, including for cleanliness. Many thanks, Anna (Owner) Property Owner

So much to do on the doorstep. Beautiful coastal path and we found a sheltered cove which was very safe for swimming at high tide. We had a couple of issues with bathrooms. Downstairs bath was very slow to drain and water leaked under the shower screen. The shower in the en suite was far too small for my husband! Such a pity as the bedroom is enormous! These were minor issues which did not detract from the rest of the house which was extremely well equipped. We were three families, three generations and the house was perfect for us. • "The house is lovely and in a fantastic location."

There are just two things that made me not give the booking full marks. First, the listing says the house has WiFi but it only works for a few hours of the day - I talked to the owner but nothing could be done about it till the following week. Since it always goes off at 9.30 pm we think it has been set this way. The second thing that should be mentioned in the details is that you have to be a very good driver to get down the last part of the track unscathed if you have anything wider than a small car. This could be solved quite easily with some secateurs and a pruning saw - my car will need some remedial polishing to get the scratches out.

Hi Neil, thank you very much for providing the feedback. I’m delighted to hear that you throughly enjoyed the house and location. As discussed, there was a fault identified with the broadband and our supplier couldn’t get an engineer out before you were due to leave. I can only apologise for the inconvenience caused not having the wifi available after 9.30pm. I’m pleased to report this has been rectified and the wifi is working as usual, 24/7. The bracken etc along driveway has now been chopped back. My gardeners and maintenance team are very local and this sort of issue can usually be quickly rectified - but of course only if I’m made aware of it. I share my contact details with guests prior to their stay so that anything can be reported and addressed as quickly as possible, with minimum disruption or inconvenience to your holiday. Hopefully you experienced some stunning sunsets from the balcony given the beautiful weather last week! Kind regards Anna Property Owner

  • "Sykes are massively letting down this owner."

Given the competition out there for letting agents I’d have thought they’d be hot on. We won’t be booking through Sykes again. Firstly the property was showing available a few days prior to arrival so we contacted Sykes to see if we could arrive early. 3 webchats and 4 phone calls later and still no answer so we arrived on our given day missing out on a few extra days and the owner on extra revenue. We were also promised the twins would be made in to doubles only to find out this isn’t even possible. Secondly, on arrival the property was not cleaned to a good standard and so the Housekeep is also letting down the owner. We sent the images to Syke; many plates caked in crusty food where they hadn’t been checked after being put away from the dishwasher. The kettle was thick of lime scale, the downstairs look had a urine stains on the bowl under the lid and bedding under a single bed that had been missed. The stair gate had still not been fixed following several previous guests comments, the tread at the bottom of the main stairs has come away and is shop and the windows very dirty. When reported to Sykes the response was utterly bland and non caring. Don’t get me wrong - NONE of the issues we experienced detracted away from the enjoy of the property. The house is amazing the views and space breathtaking! We simply cleaned ourselves and whilst this was frustrating we just got on with it. As we enjoyed the house so much we again asked Sykes if we could possibly stay longer. Greedily they came back to us with over £600 for two extra nights, totally ignoring the images and feedback we’d given previously. A relative who was with us works regularly and independently with many property owners to ensure they get the best occupancy levels and revenue. In the past he’s placed many cottages with Sykes and since removed them all to other suppliers as they just don’t deal with guests well enough. In summary, this house is in a perfect location, well equipped, has great space, wonderful for coastal walks, stunning views and has a great feel. However Sykes massively disappointed us with their incredibly poor service and in turn have let down the property owner.

We are so sorry to hear that you feel your experience relating to this booking has not been what you had expected. We did receive your request to arrive earlier at the property on the 14/06, 4 days before your arrival and we did try to arrange this on your behalf. An email response was sent to your account on 15th June advising we were reviewing the request but unfortunately, we were not able to confirm the earlier arrival date with the owner before the start of your holiday. The accommodation and configuration of the beds is stated clearly within our description. If there is the possibility to have beds made up in any other way, then we would always include this within the property listing. Upon arrival you did raise cleanliness issues at the property, and we immediately offered to have someone come out to re-clean the property and address any of your concerns, but this offer was declined. Previous reviews for this property have often rated cleanliness at the property very high. We are however delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the owner property so much that you requested to extend your stay. We responded with the set prices for the days requested that are visible online to all customers who wish to make a booking and you opted against the decision to extend your holiday. Thanks you so much for your comments relating to the property location, Coastal walks and property views. We are pleased you were able to enjoy your holiday. Property Owner

Where do I start. I agree with most of what the last reviewer said except the house was clean. The dishwasher was not working and with 10 people in the house it is essential. Washing machine not working also essentail. A baby stairgate with a bolt missing at the bottom so useless! Handles coming off in your hand on bedroom door. Very badly stained carpets, uncomfortable and very shabby furniture. Pat testing on electrical appliances were over a year out of date. This was the most expensive house we have rented from Sykes/Menai and well below their usual standards.

Thank you for your feedback. The dishwasher has now been replaced and we also have a brand new washing machine. Thank you for reporting the issue with the stair gate. The stained carpets are being replaced in October and the PAT testing also booked in. Whilst we do our best to ensure any issues are addressed as early as possible (helpfully many smaller items can be delivered within a day or two), we need to balance this against avoiding disruption to our guests' holidays having work done on the house during their stay. It has indeed been a very busy season and the house has been extremely well used! Due to back to back bookings, the earliest opportunity for the repairs to take place is October. Please accept our apologies that the house was not up to standard during your stay. In future, we will ensure a break in bookings earlier in the season, to allow for any wear and tear/damage to be addressed more quickly. Property Owner

  • "The location and view are amazing but, a big but, is the house is very tired and needs a deep clean."

From first impressions as you arrive at the front of the house with the collapsing table, the thread bare door mats and the smell of damp that hits you as you walk in you feel like you have paid too much for the house. As you go through the house you realise it is very tired and needs to be updated. The kitchen was not clean with food splatters on the wall behind the sink, tea and coffee stains on the cupboard doors. The carpets have seen better days and the main stair case is not safe for small children. Also things like the size of the towel rail in the on suite for the master bedroom are baffling, you can only fit flannels on it when there is room for a full size one, there is very little hanging space in the whole property with only coat hooks provided in some rooms, the apps on the tv have not been logged on etc… All in all the location is great but the house needs bringing up to date, perhaps you should look at the Little Fish properties down by the White Eagle or the property you pass through to get to this one, they are the standard that you should be aiming for. We see the prices have gone up for next summer without a serious refresh or rebuild it is not worth it for the view alone.

Thank you for the invaluable feedback. We are of course very disappointed to read your review as the property is usually very highly rated. Unfortunately, towards the end of the summer season, things do tend to get very well used! We have replaced the indoor mats, and the carpet unfortunately was the victim of a leak and is being replaced in October (and we have a decorator booked). The collapsing table is a hand-made African tripod table, to hold the visitors book and guest information in the hallway ready for your arrival. The cleaning standard is usually exceptionally high (as can been seen from other reviews) and we are pleased that subsequent guests have had a great holiday. We can only apologise that you weren't 100% satisfied with your stay rest assured, have taken your feedback on board. Many thanks. Property Owner

It is quite remote, best for outdoors type people. Fantastic views. Good beaches are only a few minutes drive away. Minor problem with some kit, but we believe these are sorted now. Takeaway in village needs cash, no deliveries.

  • "We stayed at Pant Yr Hyman and had a real break from it all."

The house itself was perfect for our families: comfortable, warm, plenty of space for socialising and a very well provisioned kitchen. The location was perfect, breathtaking views and a sense of remoteness but conveniently located not far for amenities. There is a wonderful coastal walk to the beach and pub. The property owner Anna was very helpful and responsive to any questions etc. Would highly recommend and definitely love to come back again!

  • "We knew we were going to fall in love with Pant Yr Hyman from the moment we spotted it in the distance."

From it's beautiful clifftop location to the welcoming, comfortable and well equipped interior, the property didn't disappoint in any way. We were able to enjoy gentle walks down to the cove, invigorating swims and rock pool explorations when the weather was fine; wild and windy coastal walks to local pubs when the weather was on the turn; and cosy time hunkering down with family and friends in the property when the weather was more extreme, watching movies, playing games and listening to the sound of the ocean crashing outside. The house enjoys a spot that is surrounded by nature, allowing peace and quiet and stunning views. It feels remote, yet shops and restaurants, pubs and activities are all within easy reach, and for those looking for more adventure and are happy to travel a little further, Snowdonia is reachable in well under an hour. The coastal path literally passes the door and coasteering opportunities are excellent in the area. The house itself was perfect for our family of 4 and our friends' family of 4, with plenty of space for everyone, including a lovely area outside to watch the sunset. The amount of thought that has gone into ensuring that the house has everything you need is evident and it was clear that any minor issues that have arisen over the summer season have been addressed promptly by the owners. Pant Yr Hyman is a real gem to be enjoyed in all seasons and we can't wait to return.

  • "Wonderful, spacious and homely house nestled in the midst of the most amazing rocky coastline."

The location is breath taking and the sound of the sea 24/7 is bliss. With direct access to the coastal walk from the garden you can roam the cliffs, coves and headland as early or as late in the day as takes your fancy. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need which is a pleasant surprise for a holiday home. We have never, ever booked the same holiday home twice but having stayed here I cannot think of anywhere else I would rather be to get a break away from the bustle of everyday life.

  • "Pant yr Hyman Is a beautiful house set up a long private lane and right on the coastal path With stunning views all around, and has a large garden with bench seating and barbecue which were used several times during our stay in October."

The property is large and very roomy, the kitchen is fantastic and very well equipped, just off this is a utility/drying room with a second large refrigerator and separate freezer along with a microwave oven. The lounge is massive with open fireplace along with a dining table that seats 10 people, next to this is a second lounge/reading room all having access to the outside. All the bedrooms are large and very comfortable with spectacular views of the sea and surrounding area. All in all this is a property that doesn’t stop giving and in our opinion is fantastic value for money.

Everything about the house was perfect for our large family. The kitchen was really well equipped. The only negative was the sink in the en suite bathroom seemed blocked therefore it wouldn’t drain properly.

Please don't worry about the washing line. We will get both this and the sink sorted out ASAP. Glad you enjoyed your stay! We pride ourselves on providing a home-from-home environment for our guests and this includes having everything you need to cook for your family. Property Owner

  • "The house is in a stunning location and the lay out of the house was perfect for our party of 6 adults and 3 children."

The main bedroom is just amazing!. However we would like to draw your attention to the folllowing 2 x radiators weren’t working The window in the ground floor family bathroom needs insulating. Any heat from the towel rail is completely negated by the cold draft, making the room very cold. Small point . - but the kettle needs replacing.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear things weren’t 100% during your recent stay. The radiators have now been fixed and we have someone there this week to look into the window - the hinge is a bit rusty (a common problem with all the salt!) so it doesn’t always close very easily; it may have been this but we will definitely get it looked at. We are so pleased you enjoyed the stunning views and the master bedroom, and that the layout worked well for you and your party. Property Owner

Lovely house. The only issue was the rubbish left by the previous occupant which was still there when we arrived, and no-one collected the rubbish during the week that we were there. The house info stated that someone would come up on Sunday to do this, but this did not happen. We ended up taking all of our recycling to a nearby recycling centre (except the plastic which was not accepted there).

The property is very close to the coast with unbelievable views, gorgeous wild flowers everywhere and easy access to the coastal path. The property has two sections to it with two staircases so it's really handy for large groups. It has a well stocked play room, Mamas & Papas high chair, stair gate and travel cot, great for our toddler. Two sitting rooms, again great for large groups, plenty of bathrooms and the kitchen has everything you could need. The master bedroom is huge with stunning views and large windows. You can reach everywhere quite easily by car - Trearddur Bay is less than 10 minutes away, a large Tesco / Morrisons etc is also about 10 or 15 minutes away and Rhoscolyn has a really nice pub. Sykes were brilliant from start to finish, couldn't be happier! Will certainly book again.

  • "The location of the cottage and the views onto the lake are beautifully peaceful, remote and serene."

However, the cottage itself is in need of some rejuvenation (e.g. new sofa and armchairs needed, water tank above spare room is filling up very slowly and noisily over a long period of time) and the whole place needs a thorough top to bottom deep clean. The drive up to the cottage/ back onto the road is really quite off-road-ish and can easily present an issue for less confident drivers/ not off road suitable cars.

  • "This "cottage", actually a large house, was perfect for us all."

Part of the house was a great suite of rooms for our daughter, son in law and their 3 children. Another bedroom together with its bathroom worked well for our son and his partner. The enormous master bedroom (and en-suite) was brilliant for us. The large kitchen, lounge with dining area and second lounge worked well for daytime use. Spotlessly clean, well equipped with the most spectacular views and wonderfully quiet.

  • "Super location."

If the bedrooms had been more equal is standard and had all had storage for clothes (I.e. wardrobes and chests of drawers) we would have given it 5 stars. We feel it isn't reasonable to have to live out of your suitcase. The kitchen was well equipped - enough of everything. It would have been nice if the heating had been on before we arrived as the house was cold and we couldn't get warmed up without any form of secondary heating. There is an open fire but no logs or kindling. After driving 300 miles to get there, we weren't going out to get any.

  • "Pant yr Hyman is in a spectacular position."

The peace and quiet is almost deafening!! Just what the doctor ordered when life gets stressful. The sitting room had a bit of a 70's vibe to it with the big slate fireplace and teak furniture. Not really to my taste but comfortable enough. We have had two short stays at Lligwy Beach cottage and I adored it there. I think the house needs a bit of updating if I am honest, but it was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Great place for a large group of family and friends and a pretty garden to have afternoon tea in. We loved walking along the coastal path and to the coves in the opposite direction. I think The Famous Five would have a brilliant time here!

About the location

RHOSCOLYN

Valley 2 miles; Trearddur Bay 3 miles; Holyhead 5 miles.

Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse RSPB Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!
