  • "Top notch House in a beautiful spot, however it’s in need of some TLC and refreshing of the decor and general upkeep and it’s beginning to look tired around the edges which is not what’s expected from a top end rental."

Also the cleaning could be better there are one or two areas of the house that have obviously not been cleaned in recent times. However it was still a very nice house and location that gave us an enjoyable week, just getting ready for some refreshing and some snagging on the property.

  • "We had a great time!"

The cottage was cean and cosy warm when we arrived on a windy cold evening. The kitchen was well equipped, beds comfortable and view of the beach amazing. The previous poor reviews concerned me but we found it amazing and will definitely be going back.

  • "We stayed in Cowrie Cottage the best week of March so was very spoiled."

The weather was just amazing. The cottage yes needs TLC but after chatting to neighbours that were staying in a cottage two doors down they were paying considerably more so lets just bare that in mind. The cottage is lovely and was clean and comfy. The beach location was amazing and worth every penny. The Oyster Catcher and Sandy Mount pubs are both worth a visit and both dog friendly . We will definitely book Cowrie Cottage again .....we just loved it :-)

  • "We had a great stay however non of the downstairs windows will open and only one of the patio door would open."

The crockery looked very marked and old and is in need of replacing. It would be nice if the bed Linen all matched and was pressed, but this is not the case The Decking outside has nails sticking up in parts. Overall had a lovely stay however a few minor tweaks would just go to make a huge difference.

  • "We love Cowrie Cottage - this was our 6th visit."

We have noticed however that since we last visited in 2018, the house is starting to look a bit shabby. One of the french doors is completely broken/inaccessible (and currently stuffed with kitchen roll to stop the wind blowing in which it only partially resolves) and the other set of doors is very stiff/difficult to open. The carpet in the smallest bedroom is threadbare in places and it could do with a lick of paint. There are a lot of cobwebs on the inside top window in the lounge (appreciate difficulty getting to it to clean) and when we arrived we had to vacuum the en-suite bathroom (hair, dust and toenails still on the floor), clean the french windows (so we could see the view) and some of the crockery had been put back in cupboards still dirty. Skirting boards upstairs were also very dusty. Lack of cleanliness is unforgiveable given the extended check-in/out times to allow for additional cleaning! That said, we still loved the place and had an extremely enjoyable and very comfortable stay. The house is extremely equipped, spacious and very warm and cosy. And it goes without saying that the location is peaceful and utterly spectacular. Would we stay again? Probably not - it's an expensive house and the owner needs to spend some money on maintenance and cleaning issues to bring it up to it's 4 star status.

  • "Superb location with just a short walk to the beach, local village, Golf Course and great viewing spot for the RAF fighter planes."

In the local village the Onestop is well stocked and Mojo's is a must for delicious Crepes and pancakes but book in advance. The property itself is well stocked and lovely views onto the beach, the only negative which has been commented on before is it could do with a lick of paint and some maintenance to the downstairs windows and left hand side French doors. Overall would well recommend.

There are quite a lot of maintenance issues with the house that need addressing, if they were taken care of this cottage would be up there with the best on the island.

  • "Stayed September 2021: The position of this house is fantastic and the accomodation on the whole is lovely BUT like last year's review and this June's review and despite Menai Holidays cottages forwarding me an email from the owner to say repairs had been done this is NOT THE CASE!"

! The downstairs bedroom window is stuck shut. It is very hot and airless overnight in that room. The 2 French doors on to the decking are very hard to open and to lock as you leave near impossible. To be replaced? Or to be oiled? The decking has rough nails recently bashed in to holes where rusted screws have perished and lifted out. We found more screws that just lifted out as you stepped on them. The nail heads are sharp and proud of the decking and not good to walk on, especially for children. A new problem I have not seen in previous reviews is that you can not drain the water from the Ensuite basin, the mechanism is faulty. We did not use that basin after the first wash. Come on SYKES COTTAGES you can get all these problems remedied but should be checked BY YOU, because you assured me they had been done before in July when I asked and they HAVE NOT!! People are paying a lot for this house , they expect simple but annoying problems to be sorted. We loved the position of Cowrie Cottage close to the beach, shop, pub and cafes, and we had a happy family time there but I want people following us to enjoy it its fullest potential.

  • "A fantastic holiday location and perfect holiday home with an amazing beach view."

The house has everything you could need and the decking at the front is a lovely place to sit out. Our second stay here and we will come again.

  • "The overall facilities and cleanliness of the bathrooms, kitchen and bedding were very good."

The location was excellent. However it was very disappointing to find on arrival bins outside overflowing, rubbish all over the floor, palm trees need some maintenance, the decking needs urgently repairing due to protruding nails and uneven boards. If you are taking eldering adults be very careful. The external door leading to the decking is very difficult to lock and open, it needs looking at, the two elderly adults could not open or close this door. We cleaned the downstairs doors leading to the decking. It was obvious that the previous people staying had a party, we found finger marks, party poppers behind the curtains, birthday cards upstairs which were overlooked. Due to covid regulations and enhanced cleaning required we were surprised. The radiator in one bedroom is leaking over the carpet badly and a towel had been wrapped around it, the window in the downstairs bedroom does not open. A fan was given to us to rectify this! A bin was provided for outside and a bulb replaced in the downstairs loo after contacting the owner as Sykes had gone home for the day

The morning view from the master bedroom was stunning, location was superb just steps from the beach. A lovely base for exploring unspoilt beaches and quaint towns. Owner was very helpful and recommended a fabulous walk through a forest that opened onto the most beautiful beach where we watched the sunset. What a Great location! What Great sunsets! Great access to the wonderful beach! Great places to eat - Sandy Mount House and the Oyster Catcher. We were fortunate to have Great weather for September. Cottage is well equipped, clean and spacious. Twin room on the ground floor was great for our elderly parents ( they would have benefited if there had been a ground floor shower room). There were a few niggles - no dryer for beach towels/ clothes - no small cups - element on cooker hanging down and did not appear to work properly - some windows do not open - unable to lock front glass doors with key - difficult to open balcony door - felt it would have been considerate of you to advise us of the building work going on next door. Please take this as constructive criticism. We really had a Great time and will definitely book again. Thank you Menai Holidays!

  • "The property was well equipped and furnished to a high standard and in a fabulous location however there were three photos and high quality rattan garden furniture but instead there was a wooden picnic table therefore not as described."

The cleanliness was poor, inside windows with handprints over them, mushroom growing in the upstairs shower. Toilet roll holder fell off upon arrival, not fixed to wall. Couldn't open most Windows and door locks difficult. No welcome items so was no milk or coffee for your arrival. Garden full of weeds and very unkept compared to other properties in the development. Such a shame, won't be booking this property again.

  • "The cottage was in a prime location and fully equipt, it was warm but had difficulty in working thermostat so it got too hot!"

The cottage could do with a deep clean and some TLC, ensuite bathroom smelt awfully of drains and shower had hair from previous guests in. Main bathroom the bath was grimey ! Difficulty in opening Windows and balcony door in main bedroom. Would I book again - no probably not at this cottage but would at Menai holidays!

  • "Cowrie cottage has excellent facilities and provided us with a home from home experience."

We were looking forward to lighting the log fire but on the first night it filled the room with smoke so we were most reluctant to try it again. It seems the glass cover on the door released plumes of smoke making the atmosphere in the room very smoky. We also encountered a leak under the sink in the kitchen on the 6th day, it appeared to be an ongoing problem as a rag was bound round the pipe and kitchen roll already positioned to mop up any spills. We mopped up the water and carried on, as it didn’t look serious.

  • "Cowrie Cottage was amazing and we loved every minute of staying in this delightful property."

The location was stunning it was great to be able to walk down to the beach every morning and look at the view in the evening, far better than watching the TV. Bedrooms were fab especially the master with the balcony and bathroom made us feel very decandent. A delightful property that we will certainly return to.
