  • "What a beautifully located property, it feels like home when you stay."

You can tell it’s been a family home at some time. Filled with love and laughter. With wonderful views across the bay of Rhosneigr. This is probably the 6 or May 7th visit for us. Thank you .

  • "The Dunes is the perfect holiday retreat."

Everything about this house is homely, comfortable, practical and peaceful. The kitchen is well-equipped and the two fridges and walk-in larder provide plenty of storage. The beds are comfortable, the showers are good and the views are breathtaking. The beach is easily accessible via a path from the house. We would highly recommend this lovely house. We hope to return again.

I love it, it was spotless and clean. It was warm which was fantastic as we had stormy weather. The house is beautifully situated and we will definitely return thank you My only downside was the read defusers scattered around the house. They kicked off my sinuses and one of my friends. They are quite chemical. We removed them and put them in a cupboard. This is the only thing that needs revision in this property.

  • "Wow what a property steeped in history."

Some of the older bits are still in situ but throughout you can see where they have modernised. If you like jets, being a stones throw from a wonderful beach and plenty of eateries then this is the place for you. Fully sealed for dogs. Couple of weird items missing considering it was well equipped no tea towels or sponge thing to wash dishes. Kitchen is very well equipped otherwise. The welcome basket was a lovely addition. House was clean warm and tidy. Bed was comfy defo recommend the bedroom at the back as you can see airfield and it is the biggest bed.

The cleaning leaves a lot to be desired, residue of food left in fridge and in cooker. A lot of grit in both the sinks in the kitchen and on kitchen floor and worktops. Having said that..a good holiday was had.

  • "On arrival at the property we found it to be in a filthy state ie food waste in sink, food splashes on kitchen cabinets, inside of bin cabinet dirty, tv room needed dusting and hoovering, hairs and debris on sofa, human hairs on 2x bathroom floors and inside of shower cubicle and bath, bedside cabinets dusty, splashes on bedroom walls."

Contacted the owner who arranged for the cleaner to revisit the property. I pointed out the issues to her and she stated a trainee had “cleaned” the property. I think her work should have been checked. Some of my issues were addressed by the cleaner’s revisit but as I had not pointed out for example the tv cabinet was dusty, this was not done. Surely, it is not my role as a paying guest to point out everything needed in each room. The property should not have been left in the state it was . I wish I could post photos here to prove what I am saying! Over many years, I have stayed at quite a few properties with Sykes Cottages and usually a bottle of wine, flowers, up market biscuits/cake are found upon arrival. At the Dunes, a packet of £1.29 biscuits were left albeit along with flowers and a pack of cards! The cleaner who revisited the Dunes, handed me wine as “an apology” . Question…..should the wine had been left anyway? Now with regards to Sykes Cottages! I have been passed from pillar to post. At least 8 people have handled this complaint, and incorrect information given to me on several occasions. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Don’t know what has happened to Sykes Cottages and Owner standards. Really hope things improve to give me the confidence to book again with Sykes Cottages.

Having visited the property several times (and have already booked again for next year) we have noticed that some of the facilities are becoming a little worn. The best examples I can give are things like beds and bedding , towels and soft furnishings. It would greatly enhance the property if these were updated. • "‘The Dunes’ has been owned by the same family for almost 100 years."

It is, therefore, not surprising that a sense of family history is reflected within its walls. Enlarged canvas prints and other photographs give a glimpse of the life once lived here in a different era. The house is both interesting and comfortable. It is extremely spacious making it ideal for a multi generational holiday. The two lounges provide a TV room and a separate room for those wishing to read or just gaze out to sea at beautiful sunsets. The kitchen is well equipped and there are good laundry facilities too. Upstairs is equally spacious with two bathrooms, avoiding queues for their use. For us, the most engaging feature is the private path to the beach. After a few minutes walk you open the gate and Rhosneigr’s golden sands are there, quite literally on the doorstep. As an added interest, the brilliant RAF pilots are often to be seen displaying their exceptional skills. ‘The Dunes’ is an ideal holiday home in an idyllic location.

We found the facilities for our group exceptionally good, lots of space, a very well equipped kitchen with plenty of crockery and cutlery also plastic plates etc for the children. Just two small details we found the king size bed mattress and bedding to be very tired and in need of replacement. The hand towels in each bathroom were very much appreciated. It would also be nice to have a hand towel along with the very good bath sheets per person. One suggestion we would make is the option of a midweek house clean with a change of bedding and towels, This house is set in a wonderfully quiet position, so safe for children and dogs, with a stunning ever changing view across the bay. We would like to thank the owners of this house for making it available for us to enjoy. Overall this house is well above the average available and we would most certainly want to return.

Those sunsets! Just a few things really. The toilet seat in the downstairs bathroom was very wobbly. Also the beds that were zipped together in the front room were very uneven. The cupboard of games was great and the room with the drier was great for our 2 dogs to live. As we had 2 toddlers some plastic plates/utensils for them to use would be useful. Otherwise a fantastic place and we will definitely try and come again!

The house is large but homely. The views are stunning. It is thrilling to watch the waves in stormy weather from the comfort of one of the two spacious living rooms -safe behind double glazing, logs crackling in the hearth and central heating keeping us all cosy. Being so close the the beach is fantastic. Everything was 'the same" and yet it is also obvious that money is spent on maintaining the quality. PS we have been to Rhosneigr in sunny warm weather too!

Great that dogs are allowed, but it would be better to then have no carpets downstairs & restrictions on them being allowed upstairs. Stairgate solutions also would be good for young children.

  • "Beautiful house - perfect location with stunning views."

Plenty of room and well equipped. Garden area was the perfect sunspot and lots of space for children to play. Private path down to the beach was very handy. Only things that could be improved would be hand towels as well as bath towels! Sofas could do with replacing as they weren't very comfortable -these are only minor points though. A thoroughly gorgeous house-hope to be back in the future!!

  • "Would have given it 5 stars, except not prepared to pay £2500 and not have 5 star quality."

Let down by 2 things. 1. Most uncomfartable extremely low backed sofa in 1st sitting room, blue sofa, hesds hitting wall. Health and safety issue too. 2. 2 single beds pushed together to make large double bed was fine,BUT, hitting heads on Wall because there was no bedhead .Easily remedied by following health and safety advice of P and O and Cunard Ships, where ther have a headboard permanently attached to wall. Therefore user friendly and safe whether in 2 single bed formation, or large double. Serious health and safety issue.

Views outstanding!! Plenty of space and great facilities. The Weather made our stay incredible, but even if it had rained the house was very comfortable and easy to get to the rest of the islands attractions. Only a couple of suggestions for nit picky improvements and that is the single sheets don’t fit the beds very well and kept popping off, more than one towel per guest would be appreciated and a couple more tea cups/glasses. Very minor and definitely would not stop us from staying again!! Can’t wait to book again!!

  • "We loved the house, even though we had a pipe burst in the kitchen, the water was isolated to the different rooms so we were still able to use the utility room sink, and the showers etc whilst we waited for the plumber to arrive."

The WIFI was not working when we arrived and we contacted the owners, who tried to get it on quickly, when I told them my daughter had brought her Dissertation to finish during the holiday, they contacted the neighbour to the cottage, who came along and offered her WIFI number for our use. However the next morning the WIFI was back on. The house is beautiful, very well equipped in a beach location which was unbeatable, it literally was around 100 yards to the beach, on a private little path. Our dogs loved it, and the outside shower was and drying room was superb. The directions were excellent until we got near to the cottage and we could not find the little lane, this was because the sign to it was covered by plant growth, so we had to ask a lot of people where the lane was. it may be helpful to say it is also near a bus stop sign.

The main sitting room is a relaxing space with comfortable sofas and chairs.

In the summer, you can put your feet up and take in the views out to sea, and throw open the windows to let the sunshine and fresh air in.

In the winter, cosy up in front of the open fire. The bright kitchen and dining room is spacious and have an electric cooker, ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher.

The large dining table is ideal for gathering everyone together for a meal as it seats 8-9 comfortably but you can seat 12 in total.

There’s also an original pantry with slate shelving adjacent to the kitchen.

The utility room has a washing machine and sink. In the ‘snug' sitting room you can perch in the window seat with a cuppa and soak up the sea views, or watch the sun set in the evening.

There is a Smart TV with DVD player, a selection of DVDs, as well as board games, jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. A downstairs cloakroom has a loo and wash hand basin. The Dunes has five bedrooms in total.

The master room has a king sized bed.

Two bedrooms that have zip ‘n' link beds which can be made into a super-king or two singles by request.

Both of these bedrooms have stunning views.

Finally, two single bedrooms. There are two bathrooms.

One has a bath, shower, loo, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.

The other has a walk-in shower with drencher head, loo, wash hand basin and a heated towel rail. A dryer room offers a second fridge/freezer and a pulley drying rack.

Dogs love sleeping in here! The outdoor wet room is perfect for washing off sandy toes straight from the beach!

The changing room has a Belfast sink and a bench with handy hanging hooks to offer a place for drying your wet suits and any other outdoor gear!

The separate shower room allows privacy for those looking to shower off but there is also a loo and wash basin. The delightful garden is enclosed and can be split into two parts - the upper and lower lawns.

The upper lawn, being high up and sheltered by a wall, is ideal for sitting out on with your cup of coffee or glass of wine to take in the sea views.

This section is also the perfect spot for al fresco lunches.

The lower lawn is great for family games of rounders, croquet or cricket!

The sun hollow has a small decked terrace opposite.

This section is fairly well hidden and a little secluded.

The perfect lazy afternoon spot for soaking up the warmth of the sun.

Garden furniture is provided on the decking - we recommend you escape here for an hour with a good book! Additionally, there’s a yard that is quite large and sheltered.

When the front gates are closed it means the outside space is enclosed.

There is also off road parking available as well as a path approx 100 yards from the house that provides private access directly to the beach.

Although use of the garage isn’t permitted to guests, there is plenty of room for boats and there is an outside tap. Rhosneigr itself is a popular seaside village on Anglesey that has provided many happy holidays for generations of holidaymakers!
