  • "Rhytty Bach is a lovely cottage - if you don't give up on the way, thinking you are lost!"

Perhaps the directions could give the exact mileage. It's a long road from Gwalchmai! The cottage was beautifully warm, due to underfloor heating, although I couldn't get the thermostats in the bathroom and kitchen to go above 17 degrees C. I had to go to YouTube to decipher the symbols on the cooker. There were no dishwasher tablets, but plenty of washing up liquid, So I assumed that I should wash the dishes myself. A drainer rack would have been helpful. The fridge was small, and the ice box was so iced-up that there was hardly any room. I should have asked the size of the two steps down into the kitchen, as they were deep and steep and I struggled to use them (I walk with a crutch). The bedroom was comfortable, but small and lacking storage space. There was a wardrobe in the living area, which was adequate, although I didn't unpack some items. There was a most unhygienic-looking toilet brush in the bathroom, which could have been the source of a faint smell. The size of the bath towels was raised last October, maybe sooner, and the owner told me larger ones would be in place after my stay. I don't know why it has taken so long. (Ditto the outside light, which doesn't seem to have been fixed for a while - and it is very dark there.) There was no safety mat or grab rails for the bath or the shower, so I could not use them. The living area contained "rustic" furniture (apart from a very comfortable sofa). Perhaps a PVC coated cloth, or similar, could be provided, as the planks the table comprised of had deep grooves. The wi-fi was a bit hit or miss, as was telephone availability. It has been a wet winter and the cottage is in a remote, rural area, with enormous tractors going up and down the lanes. The parking area to the side of the cottage was becoming muddy - perhaps a better base could be provided. The stream and local birds were a joy. But the garden really needs some tlc to get rid of dead shrubs, etc and perhaps put in some low maintenance plants to make it look less neglected. All councils vary in which items can be recycled, bin collection days, etc. It would be really helpful if all owners of holiday rentals could provide full details of what can be recycled, where it goes and which day the various bins are collected. Otherwise, those renting can Google the relevant council to obtain details

Hi Rebecca, Thank you for your feedback. Firstly, I’ll start with the positives and I’m so pleased that you feel that Rhytty Bach is a lovely cottage! There have been comments on how it can get a little too hot with the underfloor heading combined with the size of the property and the wood burning stove which guests enjoy using, so the thermostat was turned down by a previous guest. I’m sorry you found the temperature to be colder than you’d like at 17c in the kitchen and bathroom. There are instructions on how to turn them up if need be. Thanks for letting me know that the freezer needs de-icing - noted, I shall defrost at the earliest opportunity. I’m sorry that there were no dishwasher tablets and that you had to resort to washing your dishes by hand. I will make sure that there is a supply under the sink, there usually is. The furniture is rustic as you say and in fitting with the property, I wasn’t aware of any problems that the table might cause, but thanks for bringing to my attention. Regarding the larger bath towels, when I’ve asked for feedback in the past, only a few have raised the issue of the bath towels needing to be bath sheets, but I have now replaced the bath towels with the larger bath sheets. The light outside is now in working order. As the cottage is in a rural area, the WiFi and phone signal can be a little hit and miss, there is not much I can do about that I’m afraid. The toilet brush in the bathroom is always bleached by the housekeeper and I was a little surprised to hear you mention this as the cause of the smell? I thought it was the reed diffuser in the bathroom? The emergency plumber I sent out to investigate couldn’t seem to smell anything either and he agreed with you that it was probably the reed diffuser. I will keep checking just in case. I’m please that you enjoyed the wildlife and the stream and I have noted your suggestion to plant some shrubs- thank you. In spring and summer there are lovely flowers that bloom, wild included. • "Firstly there were many positives about the cottage."

Lovely tasteful decor, peaceful location, great shower and bed. Loved feeding and watching the birds from the lounge window and we had all manor of birds and a pheasant come for their breakfast. Now for the negatives many of which have been previously raised and seemingly ignored by the owner. No outdoor lights work or fitted which is not great when taking dog outside for calls of nature (torch on phone a life saver), very very strange constant unpleasant smell permeating from the bathroom (toilet) which is maybe because we are in the country. Bath towels only adequate but really need to be larger. Unsightly blue piping and concrete square laying in garden hedgerow. Kitchen very cold (we didn’t see the thermostat) and lacking in glasses and kitchen crockery. On the second evening around 11 pm we were subjected to approximately two hours of local farmers using the lanes as a rally racing track. A stream of cars started to arrive and proceeded to park right outside the cottage. Initially we thought someone had broken down and didn’t go outside to enquire. Although this is no fault of the owners they should be aware and see if this is a regular occurrence. The incident was very very noisy and quite scary and it was 1am before they all left. Although no fault of the owners another disappointment is the closure of the pub The Crown in the village of Aberffraw making Rhosneiger the nearest place to eat. Overall we don’t think the cottage was particularly good value for money and we wouldn’t return which is a big pity. With some minor tweaks here and there this could be a great place to get away too.

I am really sorry to hear that things were less than satisfactory on your recent visit to Rhytty Bach. I’d like to reassure you that I am looking into problems that you have addressed, such as the tractors at night. I’m hoping that was a one off, as no one has mentioned it before, and I have never witnessed it when I have stayed personally, likewise with the smell coming from the bathroom, I will be sure to look into that too. As far as I’m aware there have been no broken kitchen items, I will check on my next visit. The blue pipe and item in the stream is the backup well that was recently broken in a storm. I have someone coming to look at in at the end of this month to rectify it when the weather improves. I will replace the towels for larger ones, and also get the outside light fixed. I’m very sorry to hear that you won’t be returning. Marie Property Owner

It's such a beautiful place to stay and the cottage is very comfortable. We are keen cyclist and walkers and the routes for both take in some stunning scenery. The sink in the bathroom drains very slowly and there's never enough hot water to have a bath, but the shower is amazing.

Hi Pamela, I’m so glad you love staying at the cottage, but I’m sorry to hear about the hot water and the sink drainage issue. I’ve arranged for a plumber to assess the situation. Thanks Marie Property Owner

For future guests maybe extra candles which fit the candle holders in case of power cuts (which we had due to the storm) We would definitely stay there again if we were coming to the area.

  • "I have selected not to publish this and have given a 4 star rating as I only wanted to share with the owner."

I booked this cottage for my husbands 50th birthday and paid what I thought was a lot of money for a 1 bedroom cottage. We use Sykes a lot. I was expecting luxury and it was nice, comfortable and clean but there were a few areas that did not fulfil that expectation. The bath water took ages to fill and the water was only just warm enough. I had to use the kettle a few times to top it up. The sink on the wash basin took ages to empty. I noted this issue had been raised before. The water on the shower went cold and I couldn't get it back warm again. Again I think I noted this had been raised preciously. There was only 1 champagne glass and no pint glasses. There was no garlic crusher. I tried to use the grater instead but it was poor quality. We had to go out to buy bath towels as the towels were really small. I'm not large at 5.2 and size 12 but it only just went round me. My husband is 6ft2 and again it barely fit. The welcome back was lovely but I didn't need that. I just wanted at the very least to have a hot bath with a nice fluffy big towel. I never leave bad feedback anywhere but this time, as I said, I felt that it didn't quite live up to the quality I was expecting which I hope will be received constructively.

Hi Susan, Thank you for your feedback. I have ordered some larger towels and the other items, and have arranged for a plumber to look at the water and drainage issues. Apologies for your less than comfortable stay, but I can assure you that everything is being rectified. Thank you for choosing not to publish the response, that is very kind of you, and I would like to invite you to stay again sometime in the near future. If you would get in touch with me personally, that would be great. Thank you. Marie Property Owner

  • "The property was clean, presentable and welcoming on this our SECOND visit, however there is considerable evidence of neglect."

We phoned the owners when we found there was no key to access the garden furniture we had enjoyed on our previous visit. The owners mildly apologetic comments was” I can’t do anything this week anyway” thus depriving us of a facility enjoyed on a previous visit. Poor value. Other faults: outside light not working. Long unmown grass in garden making it difficult to pick up dog poo. Smokers smell on bed linen or bedroom cushions. Particularly unpleasant was the slow draining basin in bathroom, this was reported last September. After a man’s wet shave it is a long process to swill around and wait. Smell from basin plug hole. Green bin not emptied since last September. Apart from this we enjoyed the cottage and its rural but not isolated location. We have since booked a different cottage with Sykes.

Dear Peter, I am so sorry that you had a less than perfect stay, your second time at Rhytty Bach. When your lovely wife phoned me to ask about the missing key, I was very apologetic and ensured her that I would resolve things as soon as I could, unfortunately, as I explained to her, I just couldn’t do that in time before the end of your stay and she seemed very understanding. With regards to the long grass, a gardener visits the property and mows the lawn every 2 weeks, and he has been going this year since the beginning of March, so I’m not quite sure what you mean about the green bin not being emptied since September? I’m also very sorry to hear about the cigarette smell in the cottage, as it has a strictly no smoking policy. The sink issue is being resolved, and you have my deepest apologies with regards to this. Thanks, Marie Property Owner

9% perfect for us both~ the step into the kitchen from the main living area is quite steep, and proved to be a bit tricky negotiating my husband as he was only 12 weeks into full hip surgery recovery. The views are amazing and the cottage garden has a stream running along the bottom edge, fantastic sitting out there with the cows and peacefulness. Rhytty Bach is the perfect place to stay should you like to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day living. However, we were slightly disappointed by the outside. The gate is well past repairing and needs replacing. It is so dilapidated that we stopped using it and walked around to the back to enter property through the french windows. Not a problem for us, but it will collapse completely for someone, and they will then be embarrassed. Generally the garden does need a little TLC. Foliage and briars extending well into the garden and across paths. I must reiterate the whole experience was great, it's just that if the garden is not attended to, it will become a problem for future guests.
