“The flooring on the first floor is very creaky, perhaps poorly fitted.”
It spoilt what would have been the perfect holiday. The cottage is well positioned but there is no inkling it’s opposite a yard with a caravan and diggers which spoilt the view a little. The cottage is well equipped but a few more luxurious touches would have made a big difference e.g. cushions on all sofas etc. The cottage was a little ‘tired’ compared to our expectation. However, the location for other activities was perfect and as a family of 5 we had a great time.

“Lovely cottage with beautiful views and close to amenities and good walks.”
We found the cooker temperamental and couldn’t get the large oven to work which did cause some problems. Only other minor issue was the garden could do with a tidy. However these are minor issues. Beautiful comfortable house in an amazing part of Scotland. Would visit again with no hesitation- Mrs Mcvey, August 2020

Overall good property beautiful location, three bathrooms no have soap at all, towels not expectedly clean had some stains I would love to go back for location again- Mr Nazarco, July 2020
Cottage comfortable enough but could just do with a bit of TLC and a better visitor pack, re putting the heating on when it’s cold, which of course it was! Lovely log burner but the logs were to big to get in it! Shower trays could do with a de-mold. It in no way spoilt our holiday and we were more than happy to be there after a long day exploring.- Mrs King, February 2020
“Lovely house in remote spot, overlooking loch.”
Spacious and comfortable, we really enjoyed our stay.- Mr Sims, September 2019
“Maintanence could be inproved and bedding also.”
It was a verg spacious house with plenty of room for 7 persons. Beautifull view at the Loch.- Mr Eggink, August 2019
“Very spacious and well maintained property in an excellent location.”
Well equipped for a large party apart from a couple of items fed back to the owners who were very responsive during our stay.- Mr Howe, May 2019
“There is now building work opposite the house which may have an impact on the view and the general noise which should be noted on the description.”
For the owners - the 3 sofas in the lounge area are very uncomfortable and probably very old now with little or no support. Its sad that the living room furniture is not positioned/designed to appreciate the view over the loch but rather positioned with your back to the view. The upstairs shower is blocked and not draining well. On a positive note the beds were very comfortable and the house is very nice, it was clean and warm and the kitchen was reasonably well equipped, we did have to go out and buy a chopping board and some black rubbish bags. The welcome hamper was very nice and appreciated- Mrs Burns-brown, April 2019
“We drove up to the house in the pouring rain, but it was so beautifull, after we crossed with the ferry it was still half an hour left but we were so bussy looking around that we never noticed it until it was mentioned by the third person of our party (who did the driving).”
When we arrived at the house the central heating was off, but we found this was not a problem as the heating in the house worked perfectly and within 10 minutes it was very nice and comfortable. The house was very big for 3 people, but it was so relaxed, the showers were excellent (good water pressure) and looked gorgeous, do remember to turn the warm water valve. The kitchen was amazing, the fridge was large with two large freezer drawers, we were so impressed by the kitchen. The fireplace worked perfectly, the fact that around the corner of the kitchen door there was wood and coal you could use, made it really convinient and comfortable. We saw a lot of beauty, made a recommended walk that we found in the folders. For our trip home we left at midnight and couldn't take the ferry, we took the small road up to forth william. It is advisable that if you have to drive at night, to make this road atleast ones during the day so you know what to expect, because there are a lot of sheeps and deer. But it was also well worth it secretly, because we finished our vacation with a view of a massive deer, the big pappa, who got up right infront of us. We were very blessed that we were allowed to stay in a place and a environment like this. Would we return? For sure, if we get the oppertunity to be in the same place, we would go back and to that house. Thank you very much for a lovely place for our holiday. p.s There is a place for glass recycling in the village (strontian) on the square, we found it on our drive home! A lot less difficult than we thought it would be (we come from the netherlands and such containers here are usually at very strategic places that are hard to guess) p.p.s If you want to go geochaching, there are two boxes close by, for the one behind the house, don't climb up behind the house unless you want to walk in mud, there is a path just down the road.- Mrs Niel, November 2018
“Under the beds it was very dusty.”
For the rest the house was perfect as wel as the location. Beautiful views and in the middle of nature with a variaty of wildlife. We hope to come back some day.- Mr Kornelisse, September 2018
“Great location - handy for facilities in Strontian village and very spacious accommodation.”
Roads, beaches and hills all very quiet with few other visitors. One of our party has mobility problems but found the space and the solid floors made it easy to get around the downstairs.- Dr Wyatt, July 2018
“Marine Cottage is in a splendid location in such a beautiful part of Scotland.”
Wonderful holiday with family in such a comfy and convenient house. Corran Ferry really convenient, saves such a lot of driving to get Ft William.- Mrs Greenwood, June 2018
“Excellent location and beautiful cottage”
Fabulous cottage with great views, in an ideal location for exploring Ardnamurchan and visiting Mull. The property is very comfortable and well kitted out. We had visits from pine marten(s) most nights, saw sea eagles from front garden over far side of loch (with telescope) and otters nearby. Plenty of space for our party of four adults and two boys and would happily book again.- myzornis, June 2018
“The best thing about Marine Cottage is the wildlife that comes to visit !”
!!!! The house could be lovely, but in real need of some TLC, on our arrival, the outside windows were covered in old cobwebs & spiders, indoors too, outside area needs a general tidy up. The furniture is looking very tired, along with the curtains & cushions. The tap in the downstairs bathroom was very loose, and the toilet seat also. Floor boards upstairs are VERY creaky, the flooring between the lounge/kitchen wasn't fixed with a bar, and hurt your feet when walking over it. Showers need some attention too, and hanging space in twin rooms would be a good idea, we had adults sleeping in them, who had to share the double rooms wardrobes! It wouldn't take much to bring this house up to scratch, I work in holiday letting myself and our guests would not be at all happy with this house, but we didn't want it to spoil our holiday after travelling up from Cornwall. This is the second time we have been disappointed with Sykes properties, doesn't bode well for any future bookings!- Mrs Parrott, June 2018
“Eight of us spent a relaxing and lovely week at Marine Cottage in early May.”
The cottage was well equipped and had fantastic views of Loch Sunart as well as a couple of nice easy walks out of the back of the house. We appreciated the giant fridge and cooker as we stayed in and cooked each evening, and the big dinner table and lounge were spacious and comfortable too. There's a very active bird feeder out the back and a friendly pine marten stopped by one evening to eat the peanut butter we'd left outside. The only slightly negative thing to mention is that the upstairs floors are very creaky and the bathroom fans loud, so it was hard for anyone to go to the toilet during the night without waking everyone! Nevertheless everyone seemed to sleep very well most nights, even those of us who are not good sleepers. One day we took a wonderful drive around Mull and back which I would highly recommend. We also climbed Beinn Resipol which was stunningly beautiful and exceptionally boggy at the same time. If you like meat there is a freezer full of beef products from the local farm in the Resipol campsite shop - the sirloin steaks were excellent for a treat.- Mr Ball, April 2018
“The house is spacious, comfortable, well equipped and ideally situated for touring the Highlands and Islands .”
It’s not quite as close to the Loch as it looks in the pictures but the Loch is only a five minute walk. Beautiful location and the welcome gifts of milk, eggs, bacon, rolls and shortbread were very much appreciated. Loved the log fire.- Mrs Gray, April 2018
We stayed there at the beginning of November for a week and it was just perfect as a place to stay for a week for 2..!!!!!- deanm147, December 2017
“This is an excellent property in a fantastic location.”
If you want to get away from it all and enjoy the most beautiful surroundings and wildlife then this is the place to go. Loch Sunart is stunning and surrounded by wonderful mountains, hills and unspoilt forests. The property is 10 mins walk from the well stocked shop at strontian and within easy reach of fort William. The wildlife we saw in December was incredible with deer, seals, otters, herons, eagles and even a pine marten. The cottage itself has got everything you need and the views are spectacular over the loch.- Mr Killion, December 2017
“Great place to get away for a week.”- Mrs Miller, November 2017
“An excellent cottage with good facilities, clean and comfortable.”
The welcome pack was best we have ever had.- Mr Edwin-Scott, June 2017
“Superb cottage in a fantastic location, this was our 3rd time at Marine Cottage and we are going back in Ocober this year and have already booked for March next year all booked through Sykes Cottages.”- Mr Gough, April 2017
“We really enjoyed our stay here.”
The setting is very peaceful and has excellent views of Sunart loch. The cottage was really homely, warm and comfortable. Look out for lots of wildlife!- Mrs Musset, February 2017
“This is our second visit to Marine Cottage this year, it is are home from home in Scotland, we have re booked again for a 3rd & 4th visit in 2017.”
Excellent cottage in lovely part of the world.- Mr Gough, October 2016
“An excellent property in a wonderful peaceful and quiet location, Definitely a place to relax.”
The welcoming provisions from the owners were very much appreciated. Wildlife literally on your doorstep, Pine Martens, Deer, Birds of Prey, a photographers paradise! Ideally situated for trips to Mull. Strontian, a short walk from the cottage has a small village shop for food and fuel, and places to eat. We could not fault our stay at Marine cottage.- Mr Smith, September 2016
“A clean and well appointed cottage, in a beautiful part of Scotland.”- Mr Kerr, June 2016
“Marine Cottage is fantastic, it a very comfortable, spacious and modern accommodation.”
It was good to have 3 big bathrooms to avoid queueing and the dining area was spacious enough to sit 8 people comfortably without squeezing. Great sitting area for socialising together. Location was perfect - just on the edge of Strontian but near enough to walk to superb restaurant, pub or a shop. A warm welcome from owners. The views were fabulous also.- Mrs King, June 2016
“We liked the high standard of accommodation, and that it was in fact as spacious as the photos suggested!”- Mrs Taylor, May 2016
“Marine Cottage was immaculate with everything at your finger tips.”
We were really impressed by the quality of the cottage. The view overlooking the Loch was a bonus. The owners were really helpful and we would definitely re-book Marine Cottage.- Mrs Taylor, April 2016
“We would highly recommend this property.”
The location, views and quietness are excellent. The house is very well equipped and decorated. The amount of wildlife on the doorstep was amazing, especially the visits from the Pine Martin.- Mrs Whittle, April 2016
“We would highly recommend Marine Cottage.”
All the rooms were bright and clean with lots of bathrooms to suit large families and a large kitchen with all mod cons. The owners were very helpful, caring and understanding.- Mrs King, February 2016
“The cottage provided a peaceful and secluded setting, not overlooked by neighbouring properties.”- Mrs Dalgetty, November 2014
“A beautiful well equipped cottage.”- Mrs Allen, October 2014
“Extremely comfortable and well equipped cottage in a lovely area”- Mr Hirst, September 2014
“Simply Amazing, Rural Location”
I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. The lounge/dinning area is expansive and leaves plenty of room for lounging on the two leather couches or sitting at the 8 place round dinning table. One bedroom was downstairs (great for Grandad) and the other upstairs (great for us and the kids). Three shower rooms (one with a bath) are more than sufficient. Lovely wooden floors throughout which meant the kids could make a mess and we could tidy it up with little fuss! The Cottage has basic Sky channels, a DVD player, HIFI and WIFI. The WIFI was of a good standard with only a few dropped connections and could usually sustain a 1mg+ connection throughout the house. Signal was better in the lounge of course. The Cottage itself enjoys great views up the Loch and is only a short walk from the path to the beachside. The path to the beach was quite soggy when we visited to wear appropriate footwear. From the Cottage you have 3 or 4 local choices for food without driving more than 10 minutes. Anything else is quite a drive though and requires careful planning on your return from trips out or cooking at home - which we did alot of the time on the large double sized electric hob and oven. If you plan to be in Fort William or on the "real" mainland for much of your trips I would make sure you factor in Ferry times and costs, but I imagine if you're looking this location that isn't your real concern. Be prepared though, the location is on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula (effectively) which is accesible by Ferry for £9 or so a trip (which leaves every 30 minutes and takes only 5 to cross) or by longer single track road to Fort William which takes around an hour or so.- JP-HEXH, September 2014
“We'd love to return.”
We had a lovely stay in this fantastic cottage on the outskirts of Strontian overlooking Loch Sunart, beautiful views from all the windows. The house was beautifully clean tidy and warm with plenty of coal/logs for the stove. The owner had even lit the stove for our arrival.....a lovely welcome. The highlight of the cottage was the pinemartin who visited almost every night to eat the peanut butter we had put on the log store right outside the back door to entice him. The kitchen light and us with our noses pressed to the door didn't deter him. There are a couple of shops and cafes in the village for necessities. There's also a hotel/pub overlooking the bay. Fantastically positioned for touring the area, although be prepared for the very narrow roads!! Not much traffic though and plenty of passing places. We had a fantastic relaxing time and would love to return someday.- alimoses, August 2014

Myself and three friends rented this property. It has been one of the best holidays we have ever had.The views are absolutely mind blowing. The property itself has been done up to a very high standard. It has luxurious furniture, amazing kitchen and appliances including cutlery, pots and pans, plasma tv, sky, dvd player, book, games and wi-fi. It is very easy to get to and has good privacy. The landlords are very very nice people and the local people are very welcoming. There is a pub, hotel, petrol pump, two local shops and a cafe. The property is not that far from Fort William and other tourist attractions. The beach is a five minute walk and is good for fishing. There are many, really nice, footpath walks within the immediate area. We will definitely be back again in the near future and would recommed to all. To summarise, great location and views, value for money, amazing facilities and really welcoming locals.- Majid C, May 2013
“Excellent modern cottage, in great location near to sea loch.”

Everything was else was great, we had a really nice stay and would stay here again, thanks.- Mrs Garnett, May 2013

Strontian lies on the north shore of Loch Sunart and is the main village serving this sparsely populated but stunning area of the West Highlands of Scotland, generally referred to as the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The area offers a relaxed pace of life typical of the Highlands with friendly and helpful people, quiet roads and spectacular scenery. Strontian boasts good local facilities with shops, pubs, a petrol station, Post Office and local hotels providing an excellent standard of cuisine. There is a real buzz about the village especially in the summer months and wonderful live music can be heard in the Sunart Centre where famous Scottish bands along with local musicians entertain on a grand scale. From Strontian you can drive the spectacular mountain road over the shoulder of Ben Resipole and down to lonely but beautiful Polloch, on the shores of inland Loch Shiel.
