  • "A beautiful home, very clean and has everything needed for a home from home stay."

Owners had gone to the trouble to put a Christmas tree up which was much appreciated. Great location, quiet, and easy to travel to points of interest. Owner took the time to check in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. The only thing worth noting is the mattress on the double bed, it was uncomfortable, almost dipping in the middle; minor and would not put us off returning. I fully recommend this property to families and we would definitely return. Thank you for having us in your lovely home.

Hi John Mattresses have been replaced in both bedrooms last week. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you in the future happy new year Jason Cristy and Erin Property Owner

  • "We had an absolutely lovely stay at Darnhay Cottage, the weather wasn’t kind to us on a couple of days, but the comfort of the cottage more than made up for it."

We did manage to get out and about, even though it feels like the middle of nowhere, you aren’t far away from anywhere. We loved the big TV and the log burner was great, the beds were extremely comfortable and the linens and towels were very nice. We especially enjoyed the beautiful cake that was waiting for us on arrival. Thank you.

  • "Lovely clean, well-equipped cottage."

Despite the weather, we had a great much-needed break and the cottage was so good that we didn’t really worry about not going out too much. Saying that, we did have good days out travelling on the coastal route (beautiful views of Arran) and walking in the grounds of Dumfries House. The Victoria sponge on arrival was an extra bonus and delicious!

  • "Lovely clean and welcoming cottage which was very well equipped."

. Only negative was it was a bit cold as heating was set at 21 degrees . Highly recommend and would stay again

    Reviewed by JackieDec 2021

  • "Unfortunately I was cold in the cottage and the owner controlled the heating temperature setting."

No logs were available to purchase from the owners either. I also found the bed extremely uncomfortable.

Julie, we are disappointed with the feedback you have left. The heating is on constantly during winter months and is controlled by a thermostat that the occupant has control of. Regarding the logs I can only sell them if I have them and they are readily available from the local shops and supermarket. I would not sell people unseasoned logs which can be difficult to burn. Regarding the beds which there are three we have not had any bad comments on any and one is a new mattress this year, but we all have a different preference on mattress type. Property Owner

Friendly hosts who were around if needed. We explored the coast, had a day on Arran and a leg stretch at Loch Doon. We would return if we plan to holiday in this area again.

The cottage was excellent for our party of 4 adults. Well equipped and a lovely cake on arrival! The hosts were friendly, gave us all the information we needed and left us alone to get on with our holiday. Had we needed them, they were available and very approachable. An excellent spot, plenty of parking, great views and loads of bird life. Would highly recommend, it's a brilliant location for seeing this area. Thank you Jason and Cristy.

  • "Beautiful fresh clean cottage."

Upstairs well appointed but low combed ceilings. Watch out for the edge of the bed frame upstairs it can catch your shin by surprise! Everything necessary for a relaxed holiday is provided. The wood burning stove is so warm and welcoming and heats the whole house in no time at all. You need a car to get about but not far from Ayr to enjoy a walk on the Promenade there are plenty nice restaurants to enjoy in Ayr also. The Sorn Inn in Sorn is also very welcoming for a good hot meal. Even in October we enjoyed excellent weather and were able to sit out on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine. Great place to unwind. We all enjoyed our stay. Many thanks to the friendly owners !

  • "Me and my young family had a brilliant time in Darnhay Cottage."

It's a fantastic barn conversion suitable for families of four or couples. Christy is a welcoming host, and you can easily explore Ayrshire and Galloway from the base. We also ventured north to Loch Lomond, which was a bit further, but certainly manageable in a day. Would thoroughly recommend Darnhay Cottage for anyone keen to explore the stunning scenery of the area!

Comfy beds and nice log fire, which was lit on our arrival. The on-site Owners were very accommodating with great knowledge of the area, they gave help when needed and recommended good places to eat. Situated close to Ayr for shopping and the beach. Within walking distance of Mauchline and Sorn, in a lovely part of Scotland and we highly recommend this cottage.

The weather was very kind to us considering we went on the 16th November no rain whatsoever! The wood burning stove was very welcoming once it was lit and extremely warm in the cottage. We had days out every day, Glasgow, Edinburgh Ayr and Kilmarnock all within 1&1/2 hours from the cottage 11 out of 10 I would give it if I could thank you for a lovely week

  • "Fantastic fantastic fantastic!"

!! We had a fabulous week at Darnhay cottage. The cottage is beautiful and has a lovely modern traditional feel. The cottage is very well equipped with all mod cons such as washer and dishwasher. The owners are very welcoming and happy to help in any way. The cottage is in the middle of nowhere, which for us was lovely as it was so quiet and peaceful. There are shops, pubs and local take aways a short 5/10 mins drive away. It was a perfect base for us to stay and explore Scotland. It was 1.5 hours from Edinburgh castle which was a fantastic day out, Ayr beach is lovely and clean and an hour away from Weymiss port to catch the ferry to Bude which was a brilliant day out. As a note, I am a wheelchair user and the cottage was very easy to access due to the slope to the front door and due to the cottage being open plan it was very easy to manovre around. Highly recommended from a family of four - would definitely return!! :-)

Hosts close at hand if you need anything and very friendly - a wonderful home baked cake was left for us on arrival.. A beautiful quiet setting but within easy travelling distance of the coast and many local towns. The main downside is no internet connection but the owners advise that this is due to be remedied in the near future. We would not fail to recommend the cottage.
