  • "The property was lovely as was the late afternoon / evening staff at the leisure centre / reception."

The day time staff however made us feel really unwelcome, even my kids was taken back by the way the day time staff treated us. We visit Brunston Castle resort with the intention to look for a place we could easily escape to as a family on a regular occasion and if the opportunity presented itself, maybe even invest there. However after this weekend we won’t go back there due to the way we were made to feel unwelcome. The surface around the pool has just been repainted and I would advise people to be very careful as it is very slippery.

  • "Lovely lodge, very clean but hot water tank limits multi use and kitchen sink tap was faulty."

Nothing a little maintenance wouldn't sort.

  • "The lodge was clean and comfortable."

The site was very quiet, but just what we wanted. We had no trouble booking the gym or the pool for when we wanted, and Mr Chippy, the chip van, was an added surprise bonus!

and the local supermarkets do onsite deliveries too

  • "We love Brunston Castle but missed the bar, pool etc with them being closed."

At least the mini golf flags were out (take your own putters whilst Covid19 is about) and the kids climbing frame open. We stayed in number 28 and found the accommodation dirty. The kitchen sides were dirty. There was food crumbs and sweet wrappers in the lounge. We moved the single chair by the patio door and found toe nail clippings on the carpet and chewing gum stuck to the ashtray outside. The shower was warm in the morning but we had no hot water in the evening when getting ready to go out. This was sorted by changing the timer settings on the panel in the kitchen. The bed mattresses were hard and none of us slept that well. The outdoor furniture comprises of 2 plastic square tables and 6 plastic chairs. 2 of the chairs were broken and the others were uncomfortable to sit on. However. The kitchen had a Nespresso coffee maker, washing machine, full size fridge/ freezer, dish washer and plenty of crockery and glasses. The rooms are a good size and parking is directly outside the property. If travelling with children we can highly recommend the following activities: Heads of Ayr Animal Farm Park Culvean Country Park Ayr sea front by the pavilion. A trip to Arran from Ardrossan. Great places to eat: Yasmins, Indian in Girvan. Cecchinis, Italian in Ayr Little Rock, cafe bar in Brodick Pavilion cafe in Ayr Souters Inn in Kirkoswald (expensive by very nice)

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Brunston Castle, the lodge was very well equipped and very comfortable to stay in."

As our stay was just a few days after the lockdown on this type of holiday was lifted, this did not deter from our enjoyment, some facilities where not open but again this did not bother us. Would view listings from Sykes Cottages again.

  • "This cottage was by far the worst I have stayed in and I as really disappointed in the standard and cleanliness of this lodge."

I contacted Sykes and informed them of my problems and my concerns and also asked them not to get the owner to ring me as I did not want a confrontation with the owner whilst I was on holiday, guess what this request was ignored. The subsequent conversation with the owner was pretty much what I was expecting he could not understand that there could be any issues as he loved going on holiday there and he could see no problems with his property. The problems were dirty and stained carpets, he know about this and they were in the process of getting them replaced!!!!, dirty windows and a deck area that was slippy and needed pressure washing. no remote for tv the owner told me to contact receptionist they might have one !!!!. The lodge photographs well but in reality it is in the centre of the complex and gets very little sun doe to trees and its orientation. This lodge had a similar complaint earlier in the year but I was assured by Sykes that the issues had been taken care of this was not the case. I was contacted by Sykes and given £50,00 compensation this was very little considering myself and my friends had spent a week of our time and the cost of the lodge in a very disappointing and dare I say grubby accommodation.

  • "When we arrived the lodge was nothing like pictures in website."

All carpets where marked and dirty, not a single window was clean and the balcony was covered with spider webs. Really put us off a bit, the site is lovely but feel we wasted our money as picture are totally deceiving and we spent most out week out with the lodge.

  • "We have stayed in many self-catering holidays but we think this has been the best one so far, especially for little details eg."

dishwasher tablets, teabags, coffee etc to get you started. The lodge was spacious and very comfortable...and very quiet :-) The lodge also had laundry stands, ironing board, hoover, etc etc. The only downside was, the wifi signal was very poor in the lodge we were in probably because it was down near bottom of site but we used our own data to keep up with social media!!!!! The indoor pool was great for our 2 teenage boys :-) Staff all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend Sykes Cottages! :-)

  • "Short break at Brunston was exactly as expected if not better."

Facilities were perfect. Lodge was clean & cosy. Only downside was that there were too few pieces of cutlery! Could have done with some extra knives & teaspoons for mealtimes. Otherwise great.

  • "Our first visit to western Scotland and will definitely not be our last."

Our holiday was fantastic and we can't wait to go back to Brunston Castle. The staff on the site were first class and so helpful. Internal site roads could do with some work to fill the holes and the site would benefit considerably from having a drinks licence. Overall, a really enjoyable holiday in a fantastic location. Would recommend to anyone.

About the location

DAILLY

Ayr 16 miles.

Located on the Water of Girvan in South Ayrshire, Dailly, or ‘New Dailly’ to distinguish it from ‘Old Dailly’, was developed in the mid 18th-century as a coal mining village. The ruins of the Robert Adam-designed Dalquharran Castle stand on a hill overlooking the village. The ruined church at Old Dailly dates from pre-Reformation times, and houses the mysterious Blue Stones; thought to be Charter Stones, ancient symbols granted to an area in place of a written charter, several legends have grown up around them. One holds they were Sanctuary Stones and would protect anyone sitting against them, and another belief is that their mystical powers would bring good fortune to anyone touching them. The village of Dailly today has a pub, shop and post office and the series of Dailly Trails make for ideal walking, forming part of the Carrick Way. Dailly’s proximity to the Ayrshire coast makes it an ideal venue for exploring the many golf courses, beaches and castles, including spectacular Culzean Castle, and with the Galloway Forest Park nearby and its many walks and cycle rides, this is a great location to use as a base for touring.
