Great walks from door, e.g. the beach/bay and a 5 minute drive to nature reserve which has fantastic walks for all abilities. Good food at Tayvallich Inn, just under half a mile away. No wifi, which I did think it had when I booked. I feel wifi would be good (not a criticism but a suggestion).

.. you stated the cottage had WiFi, but it doesn’t. So it was difficult to contact family at home. No landline and not all mobile phones will work in the that area.

“This accommodation is ideally situated.”

The area is stunning with some amazing walks right on your doorstep. It is a very peaceful area where you can really relax and recharge your batteries. There are some great boat trips to go on - visiting the Corrievreckan whirlpool and Jura - we saw lots of wildlife including dolphins on the way back from Jura, sea eagles, golden eagles and porpoises, deer and red squirrels. The cottage is very comfortable with everything you need to enjoy your holiday. On a clear night the stars are amazing as there is virtually no light pollution. I would highly recommend this accommodation. But my recommendation would be for four guests or less. Our children were with us for the first night and I think it would be a bit cramped with six people the whole time. It was fine for one night.

Alternatively, appreciate your surroundings at first-hand by taking some time out on the lawned garden.

Stroll into Tayvallich to reveal its charm, discover a pub also hosting a seafood restaurant, as well as a handy village shop along the shores of Loch Sween.

Stunning walks and cycle routes are abundant in the area, running along the magnificent Knapdale Peninsula and Crinan Canal, as well as luscious countryside.

Ferry rides to Jura are available from Tayvallich Jetty, or you can catch a ferry over to one of the many other Islands from nearby towns, or perhaps venture into mainland Scotland and reveal a world of different things to see and do.

Ar Deireadh is a superb, homely base for a family or group of six seeking that long-awaited getaway.

About the location

TAYVALLICH

Arichonan 3.5 miles; Crinan 8 miles; Kilmartin 11.5 miles; Lochgilphead 12 miles.

Situated on the Knapdale Peninsula to the west of Scotland, in the region known as Argyll and the Isles, Tayvallich is this charming harbour village with an excellent seafood restaurant, inn, coffee shop, shop and post office. The town’s name has Gaelic origins, and translates to 'the house of the pass’. It sits on the shore of Loch Sween in a horseshoe bay surrounded by woodland. A mecca for boating and sea kayaking with public slipway and pontoons. An all purpose sports court sits next to the village hall, where ceilidhs are regularly held. A 10 minute walk takes you to the opposite side of the peninsula, to a pretty little beach called Carsaig Bay where you can enjoy views across Jura Sound and spectacular sunsets over the Isle of Jura. Fast ferries travel across the sound so you can easily explore the island. On the peninsula itself, there is plenty to see and do to explore the history of this delightful area. Visit the medieval Chapel of Keills and admire its display of carved stones, as well as its beautiful view of the MacCormaig Islands. You can also explore the National Nature Reserve on the Taynish Peninsula, which is home to one of the oldest oak forests in Britain or explore the Scottish beaver trail in Knapdale Forest. The 12th century Castle Sween sits on the opposite side of the loch, and Kilmory beach is easy to reach and a lovely destination for an afternoon stroll and picnic. The village is an ideal base to explore the Mull of Kintyre and enjoy it’s world class golf courses, surfing and beaches or visit Oban, 1hrs drive north, gateway to the western isles. A stunning, secluded corner of Scotland, with endless heritage and beauty to discover as well as plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and fishing.
