“We had a very enjoyable stay in Rose Cottage.”

The pictures of the cottage need to be updated as the cottage has been repainted on the outside and the double bedroom in the older part of the cottage has been carpeted which was lovely. Post office/little shop was lovely and they do takeaway food on a Friday night which was very good. We took a day trip to Isle of Bute we caught the ferry from Colintraive about 30 min drive from Rose Cottage. We hired a boat from Loch Goil Cruises £75 for three hour cruise weather was beautiful and you can take your own picnic on board along with your fishing rod. Scenery was beautiful. Benmore botanic gardens were ok we did see red squirrel. Inveraray is a lovely place to visit with its lovely castle. Only thing I would say it would be good if the cottage had stair gates for younger children but apart from that our stay was excellent.

“The cottage was fantastic.”

Lots of space for our family of 4 (2 adults, children 6&9). Loads of room to spread out. Two TV's, DVD players etc etc. Even had a keyboard which our daughter could practice on. The setting is lovely overlooking loch Fyne, great sun sets. Lots of places to explore. Trips to Gigha and Bute were highlights. The George hotel in Invararie was great. Highly recommend for food and or a drink with cosy and friendly atmosphere.

Beautiful views out over the Loch and central location for exploring the area. We enjoyed a great barbecue in lovely back garden - though access to it, while fine for us, would not suit very elderly folk or young children.

The cottage also has good views of the loch which is just across the road. We used both the local pubs the Creggans for eating the food was very good the other one in the village the Clachan is a small but very friendly bar.

It was very roomy for us (4 adults, 1 ten year old and 1 two year old). It was perfect for exploring the area and we were just across from the Loch. The owner made us feel very welcome and helped me with ideas of places to visit and places to eat. We will be coming back next year for a longer stay.

It was very spacy (and we were 2 adults and 3 teenage kids!), 2 sitting rooms, one with wood fire, great facilities, garden with BBQ,... Good spot to start expeditions to the nearby region. Absolutely great value !

“We had a lovely holiday in Rose Cottage - it was a beautiful location and the cottage was warm and comfortable.”

It was great having two living spaces as we were a family group of mixed ages so it allowed the kids to have their own TV room! We would highly recommend this holiday cottage is you are looking for a peaceful getaway. The only thing we'd like to highlight is that we felt some of the kitchen equipment was lacking - in particular there was no cheese grater. Otherwise, all positive.

My only comment would be that the saucepans and frying pans were quite old and we would have liked china mugs for tea, but that's a very minor grumble which didn't spoil our holiday at all.

“Lovely cottage”

We stayed at Rose Cottage with our teenage Son for a week. The owner was there to welcome us complete with fresh flowers on the table, a bottle of wine and some cream cakes - what a welcome. The cottage was clean, comfortable and exactly what we expected from the website. The cottage worked extremely well for us as a family. Our son stayed in the double room on the older side of the cottage, having his own bathroom and his own living space if he wanted it. The newer part of the cottage was a delight. Comfy seating and plenty of it, the log burner which we lit some evenings. The kitchen if a little dated had everything we needed, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, not that we needed that. Everything was really lovely and fresh and clean. We would highly recommend it to our friends and we are already planning a return visit. It was ideally placed with a nice walk to the pub or up to the bistro for a gorgeous Scottish breakfast! Great location and easy drives to Colintraeve for ferry to Bute, Dunoon, Crinan (gorgeous).

“GREAT BREAK AT ROSE COTTAGE”

Spent a week at Rose Cottage with family and friends. Cottage was excellent, very cosy and ideal for three couples. Having two separate bathrooms was very useful as was the two sitting rooms (especially as we were staying there during the world cup, men in one room and ladies in other!!). Rose cottage is in fact two cottages made into one and overlooks Loch Fyne, it was very well equipped and very clean. The owners were very welcoming and the cookies and wine were a nice touch. The garden was lovely and we were blessed with some beautiful weather and made good use of the BBQ. Would love to come back again and would recommend it to anyone.

The lounge area is very spacious, and having a second sitting room was a bonus. Everything you need is provided and more. A warm welcome from the owner on arrival was nice as was the bottle of wine and biscuits left on dining table (nice touch). The cottage was much larger than expected. Would definitely recommend it. Great holiday all round.

“Lovely cottage with reservations!”

This cottage is in a beautiful location with a lovely view of Loch Fyne. It is very clean and nicely furnished. It's basically 2 cottages joined together by the kitchen, one side it's been kept in the original style, the other side completely modernised. Therein lies a few points I would point out. The older half has a very narrow staircase leading to a family bedroom and a bathroom. The bedroom has painted floorboards which are somewhat creaky. The bathroom is new but the door opens to the top of the stairs, as does the bedroom, there is no landing and could be dangerous for young children. There is a mat by the bedroom door but it slips and a child running could slip straight onto the staircase. The modern side of the cottage has a lovely open plan downstairs but the staircase goes upstairs from the living area and is open on one side, so again dangerous for children or an elderly person. The kitchen joins the 2 sides and we stayed there as a couple and found it small, especially for a 3 bedroom home. There are 4 linked fire alarms in the property and as we found out they are extremely loud when they are set off by a bit of cooking! you need to have alarms, but 4 all going off at once was deafening especially when it took 20 minutes to get them to shut up! The blurb describes a garden and it is lovely, however it is not outside the cottage it is outside the neighbouring cottage and is surrounded by a hedge. You therefore could not leave children unattended out there to play because you can't see them from the cottage. One last thing the cottage opens straight onto a parking area and the main road just beyond so again children could not play outside unattended and there are several lorries that seem to use the road and a main route through. As I said it is a lovely location and the owner makes sure it is very clean etc. If you are staying there as a couple or a group of adults it's fine but if you have children or are elderly you need to make sure it would be right for you.

But even better was the evenings in a large comfortable lounge in front of a beautiful solid fuel burner, ideal way to spend an Autumn evening. The welcome we received from the owner was both warm and welcoming. Unlike some cottages we have stayed in this cottage was exceptionally well equipped.

The property

This charming mid-terrace cottage is situated in a delightful rural location in the village of Strachur, in the wonderful Argyll region of Scotland.

Set in some of the most beautiful scenery Scotland has to offer, this Argyll cottage boasts flexible and stylish accommodation, making it an ideal base for families and friends.

With lovely views across Loch Fyne, this Strachur cottage offers two sitting rooms, which are situated either side of a central kitchen and each wing has stairs leading up to the bedrooms, bathroom and shower room.

One of the sitting rooms has a dining area and cosy woodburning stove, whilst the smaller sitting room has a warming open fire, plus there is also access to a sloping garden at the rear of this Strachur cottage, with a lawned area, a summerhouse and a BBQ.

The small village of Strachur sits alongside Loch Fyne and has a shop/tea room/Post Office and a petrol station, as well as the famous Creggans Inn.

With Dunoon and Inverary within easy reach and walking, cycling and fishing all around, this Strachur cottage is the perfect base for a country break.

About the location

STRACHUR

Dunoon 18 miles; Inverary 21 miles.

The small village of Strachur sits on the east shore of Loch Fyne on the west side of the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll. From the Gaelic meaning Glen of the Heron, Strachur is just over 60 miles from Glasgow. The original village centre is located about half a mile inland from the loch shore and today it offers the Smiddy Museum and Clachan Inn. On the shore of the loch is a shop, Post Office and tea room and just north is the famous Creggans Inn, previously owned by the renowned adventurer Sir Fitzroy MacLean. The charming town of Inverary is on the opposite sides of the loch and is reached by a pleasant and picturesque drive, passing by the well-known Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. The Town Jail is worth a visit, as is the striking castle which you pass on entering the town. Surrounded by magnificent lochs, forests and mountains, Strachur is located in one of the most spectacular parts of Scotland.
