For the last few days it came up with a warning saying it would shortly stop working with BBC channels. We contacted the owner. The only other minor problem was that the bottle recycling bin was missing. A few more plates/bowls and more cutlery would also be useful. However we had a good time and certainly would be happy to go back to Alma cottage again.

  • "A lovely cosy property that has been well renovated and is in an absolutely wonderful area."

We had a couple of problems that were also mentioned by others, the first being getting out of the drive onto the road is extremely dangerous as it is a very busy road. We overcame this by one of us going into the car park of the shop opposite and directing the driver out onto the road, but it is an accident waiting to happen as the cars speed down the main road so do take care. The second issue was that of the toilet being so far from the bedrooms so it is a long trek in the night for those requiring the toilet in the night. This too could be overcome quite easily by putting a small toilet and washbasin in one of the upstairs bedrooms. We were also not too happy about an electrician being booked to come during one of our days there. Although we did work around it, it was a little embarrassing for us all. That saying, we had a wonderful week and got out and about and saw a lot of lovely places and were able to come back to a nice, cosy, warm cottage that had all you required to give a very pleasant stay. Thank you.

Had everything we needed. Great location. Love Tyndrum for being in some lovely countryside and nr some Munros. Also has shops, cafés and pub very close by. A few big cobwebs were found in the cottage, but otherwise clean. A bit odd having the bathroom off the kitchen but we got used to it. Biggest concern was the pulling out of the parking area due to lack of visibility of oncoming traffic from the right.

  • "When we arrived the cottage was snowed in."

We had to dig a path through 2 feet of snow get the car in and access the door, 7pm at night. We feel provisions should have been made for this. My husband has a back injury and shivelling snow did not help. Not dog friendly, dog accomdating. No enclosed garden and dogs had to be kept on lead at all times so as not to trespass on neighbors garden. No division between the gardens and hard to tell where the boundaries are. Apparently a neighbor complained our dogs were on their garden, but all other cottages were empty. Obviously someone was watching us. Our dogs were 100% on a lead which was tricky with all the snow and and a wild garden to navigate. I did ask prior to going to the cottage about the garden but was given a vague answer. Would recommend for people without dogs, as ideally located for hiking.

It is a tastefully redecorated miner's cottage, with all mod cons! It was super clean, well stocked and when they said 'pet-friendly', they were not exaggerating. Our Hosts Scott & Nicky supplied a bed, bowls, treats and toys for my Border Collie Loki. Ideally located in the Highlands, right on Great Western Road at the West Highland Way. Hills, rivers, woods and trails abound as does the wildlife! We had great time and will defiantly be back. Tea, coffee, drinking chocolate, biscuits and a pint of milk were waiting for us on arrival. The lounge and dining room were comfortable and roomy, with lots of electric sockets and good Wi-Fi; the beds were comfy too. I did not find noise from the road troublesome. The kitchen is modern (induction hob and good utensils) but the space is limited. The bathroom was accessed from the kitchen. The private parking at the back of the property was accessed by a sharp turn directly off the A82; turning right out of the property was a little hair-raising, but the speed limit is only 40 mph so not too bad.

The only thing we had a problem with was the boiler which kept cutting out and this happened about 3/4 times a day. No big issue for us as we hit the reset button and it came back on but issues with the boiler had been highlighted in a couple of reviews from earlier in the year so this is clearly an ongoing problem and during the winter months this is not ideal especially for anyone who doesn't want to have to reset a boiler multiple times. As I said not a problem for us but could be for others.

Thank you for your feedback. - As you have rightly said this has been a recurring problem. The last thing we want is continuing hassles for our customers, so we had a new boiler fitted in April 2021. We do hope to see you again. Property Owner

Perfect location for visiting so many places and, of course, for the West Highland Way, other walks and not far from Loch Lomond. The Real Food Cafe is excellent for fish and chips. There's a grocery shop just across the road. House looked beautiful - very well decorated and equipped - and was very clean. Lovely to have a separate dining room. Bathroom is downstairs but that was fine. We were concerned booking that it might be noisy next to the road. You could hear the road, obviously and there is traffic at night but it didn't bother any of us at all. It certainly didn't affect our sleeping. Absolutely loved it. Would go back again tomorrow.

Even magnetic torches on light switches if needed during the night. Sykes tend to tell you to bring loads of things eg oven gloves, but this cottage had taken care to provide everything. Boiler was a problem but the owners acted promptly to get it fixed. They carefully tell you of things to note, and the only slightly inconvenient aspect in our opinion is that the bathroom is downstairs.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your understanding in getting the boiler fixed as quickly as we could manage. Although the weather was not the best we still had a lovely stay. The cottage is warm, clean and comfortable. We had a bit of a problem with the boiler (hot water not working) but is was sorted by the owner quickly. As previous reviewers have commented there is quite a bit of road noise (HGVs pass within a few feet) but surprisingly it didn't keep us awake at night. The kitchen, as mentioned, is small but manageable for 2 (wouldn't like to have had more people there!). There is a little shop over the road and a pub within a short walk which serves good food. Be careful if you park your car at the back of the property as you enter the road on a blind bend

Lovely to have a king size bed. It’s a great position for exploring and useful to have facilities on the doorstep. Shame about the road noise but they have done all they can to prevent noise intrusion in the house and we were warned about it beforehand The kitchen is very well equipped just a shame it’s not a bit bigger. We only heated things up and made picnics but we would have struggled to do much more and it must be difficult for 4. No idea how it worked with 6! Also the fridge is too small and the thermostat quite erratic. The dining room would have made a great kitchen/ diner but we realise when they did the conversation that was used as a bedroom. A lovely touch to leave extras for the dogs. They enjoyed their treats ! It’s a shame part of the garden can’t be enclosed. It would have been lovely for our dogs to potter around off lead.

Felt at home immediately. The ventilation system allows you to keep windows closed at night, thus keeping the midges out. The only concern is that the fence panels at the back restrict visibility when driving out onto the main road, where vehicles approach at high speed from both sides, but there is the option of parking across the road near the village shop. Along the same lines, a gate would be helpful to prevent small children or pets from getting out onto the road.

  • "Alma Cottage is a delightful, well equipped and comfortable property that fully met our requirements."

There is very little to comment upon as the description given very accurately describes the property. This includes the few negatives, including the proximity to a busy road, which can be very busy but very quiet in the evenings, and the house appears to be well insulated against both the cold and the noise outside. The car parking, as described, is a little awkward for two vehicles parked along side each other. There is enough room to park but manoeuvring in and out of the parking area can be awkward. One vehicle would not have a problem. There is no 'dining area' only a low, drop leaf table in the lounge. It could be remedied with a full height folding table and stackable stools. However this would not stop me renting the cottage again. The lounge chairs and sofas are very comfortable but would benefit from the addition of supportive 'scatter" cushions ! We were a party of 4 adults who managed to 'choreograph' using the bathroom without much difficultly. However, for a party of 6 the single bathroom facility in the property might prove a challenge ! The property is extremely well placed for exploring the area; walking sections of the West Highland Way, which passes the front door; and accessing this part of Argyll and beyond. The village itself is very well catered for with Post Office, grocery shops, 'petrol' station, train services, cafe, pub and restaurant and good quality gift shops all within close walking proximity. A lovely property, thoughtfully renovated to a very high standard. It was a delight to stay here.

  • "We had a pleasant holiday in Alma Cottage."

It is a cosy little place. As pointed out by previous tenants, there is no dining table and the kitchen is relatively small (albeit modern and well equipped). I guess that the dining room was sacrificed for the sake of an extra bedroom. As such, the cottage is well suited for people who like to dine out in the evening (the local Real Food Cafe is recommended), but it is less than ideal for people who prefer home-cooked meals. We belong in the latter category, but we managed, and at the end of the day, we were happy to have the extra bedroom. The cottage is right next to the A82/A85; however, due to its thick walls, the cottage is well insulated against traffic noise, and it did not bother us. The cottage is also right next to the West Highland Way. If you have a dog, then it needs to be on a lead whenever it is let out as the garden is not fenced off. Other than the aforementioned minor issues, we enjoyed our time at Alma Cottage.

That meant that all meals had to be eaten whilst sat on the sofa, which is not something we do. The cottage has sleeping for six people and this would have been a challenge. Fortunately there were only two of us, so we got by, but it was disappointing not to be able to sit down and eat properly after a long day on the hill. About the location

TYNDRUM

Crianlarich 5 miles; Inverary 27 miles; Callander 35 miles; Oban 36 miles.

Sitting within the stunning Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and with the Gaelic name Tigh an Druim, meaning ‘the house on the ridge’, Tyndrum began life on the drovers’ routes bringing cattle from the Highlands to markets in central Scotland. Its importance for travel in the Highlands is still apparent today with two railway stations and a petrol station feeding the popular road, which divides just north of the village to go to either Oban or further north over Rannoch Moor. Tyndrum boasts a Tourist Information Centre, a couple of restaurants, a pub and the famous Green Welly Stop, which contains a shop and restaurant and is always popular with visitors. For walkers, the West Highland Way passes through the village and continues north to the majestic Rannoch Moor and spectacular Glencoe. Visit Ben Cruachan and the power station situated inside the mountain, or take a trip to Inverary on Loch Fyne and sample some delicious seafood. You can even try your luck hunting for gold as there is a history of gold mining in the area. Tyndrum is an ideal base for your Highlands holiday.
