“Shore Cottage
The view is outstanding, but that is where it ends i’m afraid, its a shame that the outdated and inefficient storage heating system doesn’t give off enough heat so that you could sit out there and enjoy it.”
This is a weekend cottage where you would only have an overnight bag as there is next to no spare room to put anything. There is no storage space within the bedroom so you have store your bags under the only space available which was under the small table in front of the panoramic window, and then live out of them.
There is a small picnic table and 2 chairs which I can only assume is what you are meant to erect to enable you to eat from (even less space now)
The shower and toilet are so small (like standing in the sink) you can hardly turn around, when you clean your teeth you head butt the glass shelf (when you rinse your mouth out) which covers the tiny sink.
The kitchen is one cooker/one sink and a 2 ft sq area to prep your food in (after you have moved the toaster and kettle out of the way)
The bedroom has no storage space whatsoever and only a small gap between the bed and the wall to enable you to edge your way around the bed to get in, the bed also feels damp when you first get in to it
The wardrobes are sited in the living room and one is full of old books and junk and look as if they are going to topple over, if you turn the shower off by the pull switch it trips out the RCD. No heating in the toilet/shower area.
The whole place needs decorating and at the moment requires a complete and thorough clean up, the whole house has a damp smell and also feels damp and after a week all your clothes (worn or not) will need washing.
Traffic noise is a complete nightmare with cars zooming passed your front window (2mt away from the road) at 60+ mph. The whole house vibrates when any large vehicle passes.
For some reason there are 2 televisions both of which do not work correctly with one of them starting up on full volume every time you turn it on, which you have to do several times before it works.
The whole area out side is a tripping hazard waiting to happen so be warned, also the inside has a few mats and rugs which can trip you up as well with the rug in front of the fire keeps creeping up and covers the fire hearth every time you step on it.
All in all at £431/wk its about £300 too expensive and is probably in need of a visit by a sykes rep as this does not bode well for Sykes quality standards.
All in all this didn’t really get our 3 weeks holiday off to a flying start and if we could have got an early start to our second week in Pitlochry we would have left early, not a good start.
After using Sykes for a good few years this may now make me look elsewhere for cottages.
