4 Customer Reviews

  • "The owners were very helpful and welcoming."

The facilities in the studio were adequate for our needs and everywhere was neat and tidy. The coffee maker obviously hadn’t been used for a long time and needs a good deep clean. We felt the design of the kitchen area needs a rethink and it’s not easy to use a microwave/multi function oven so low down. The positioning under the sink was not ideal. But we copes and made some delicious meals. Having the cafe next door was a bonus for gorgeous breakfasts and proximity to the ferry for Gigha island was very handy. We were very grateful for the use of the washing machine. We were happy with our stay and thank them for their kindness. If you need to know anything about the area then just ask them.

  • "Clean, compact well planned accommodation."

Comfy bed, efficient shower, well equipped kitchenette. South facing garden area for sitting out. Close to ferry for Gigha, which is well worth a visit. Plenty going on at the terminal: excellent café. Tayinloan a good spot for those wishing to explore Kintyre.

Interesting to watch the comings and goings at the ferry terminal to Gigha opposite the apartment.

About the location

TAYINLOAN, KINTYRE, ARGYLL AND THE ISLES

  • Campbeltown 18.8 miles
  • Tarbert 18.6 miles
  • Lochgilphead 31.8 miles

A stone’s throw away from the ferry to the Isle of Gigha, which is a scenic sail away, a beautiful tranquil place which is community-owned and has its own temperate microclimate thanks to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. Tayinloan is midway down the West coast of the Kintyre Peninsula, and you are well placed to discover all that this famous Peninsula has to offer, for instance, Campbeltown, which is famous for its whiskey, and the oldest operating Art Deco Cinema in the UK, and Machrihanish, where the US and RAF were based, with the longest runway in Europe, where you can catch a flight to Glasgow. Alternatively, walk to Westport along one of the longest sandy beaches on Kintyre with spectacular sand dunes and untamed surf from the Atlantic Ocean which makes it a Mecca for surfers from all over the world. Further round, there is The Mull of Kintyre with its lighthouse, Southend, a fantastic beach, along with St Columba’s Footprint, and caves. Head up the East road through Peninver, and on to Carradale, a sleepy picturesque fishing village. Why not head to Clonaig, where you could take a day out over the Kilbrannan Sound to the Island of Arran (The Sleeping Giant), also known as Scotland in miniature, on account of its geology? Go on further to find Skipness with its Castle, and Seafood Cabin and Smokehouse in its grounds - a great day out for kids and adults alike! To complete your round trip of the peninsula head on to Tarbert, where the fishing fleet keeps the local hotels, restaurants, and A&D Johnsons fishmongers. As you can see there is all of the above and so much more to see and do around the coast, not forgetting to mention the hiking trails, mountain biking, wildlife watching, fishing, and ample opportunities to unwind. Come to Kintyre, there’s something for Everyone.
