“Overall this property was excellent the period features and decor are amazing The jacuzzi was awesome and the kids made the most of it The internet & phone coverage is poor I would recommend bringing WiFi boosters The main lounge is not as warm.”

As the rest of the house ...

As the rest of the house All the bedrooms are spacious and have plenty of light The grounds and garden area are vast and the kids will enjoy playing games etc The property could do with some TLC the blinds were a bit awkward to use Some of the taps in the bedrooms were dripping. However this did not take away from our experience we had a fantastic stay and the owner Alex was very friendly and accommodating he provided extra bits when required and dealt with minor issues immediately Would highly recommend this place Our family had a brilliant time

The property

This huge apartment is one of four to reside within a grand castle-style country house, surrounded by private land, countryside and offering distant views of Loch Lomond, in the small village of Buchlyvie on the outskirts of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

Auchentroig House offers grand and spacious accommodation across two floors for a group of family and friends wanting to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil break, while being within easy reach of the countryside and lochs of the nearby national park.

The property is accessed up a long driveway, with ample parking in front of the house, surrounded by stunning countryside and with a communal lawn to enjoy.

Enter the apartment into a stunning entrance hall with exposed wooden flooring, a woodburning stove with seating placed around it and even a grand piano that those who are musically inclined will enjoy playing.

From this huge open-plan space, there is a spacious kitchen/diner with plenty of space to prepare and enjoy group meals, while the utility room houses a range of handy appliances, including a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave.

The living/dining room offers an alternate spot to enjoy meals together, as well as ample seating to relax onto, while enjoying the view of the surrounding grounds, with a quirky curved space in the corner, surrounded by windows, where you can sit and enjoy a cup of tea or a spot of lunch whilst enjoying looking out onto the garden.

Also on the ground floor is a convenient powder room with two toilet cubicles and two basins.

Heading up the grand staircase to the first floor, you will find six generously-sized double bedrooms, most of which have their own feature fireplace, and all of which are bright and airy and have lots of storage space for your belongings and are spread out along two corridors that are accessed up three small steps.

You’ll be spoilt for choice upstairs not only for sleeping arrangements, but with bathrooms – there is one shared by two of the six bedrooms, which has a stunning Jacuzzi bath and a separate shower cubicle, as well as a family bathroom with a shower over bath.

On this floor, there is additional socialising space in the snug area with seating, where you can sit peacefully with a good book or enjoy watching TV with the rest of the group.

Buchlyvie lies on the outskirts of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park and offers a pub and restaurant, as well as access to the nearby Flanders Moss nature reserve, an important wildlife habitat formed over 8000 years ago, Strongend mountain, which is the highest peak of the Fintry Hills and offers some breath-taking scenery at the summit, while the hills themselves offer several scenic walking routes to enjoy.

Head into the national park and explore the Lochs on foot, bicycle or by boat, the most famous of which is Loch Lomond, known for its legendary monster thought to inhabit its waters!

Join the West Highland Way, a 154km-long path that runs from Milngavie to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands and offers hill walking as well as opportunities for mountain biking and horse riding, and is Scotland's first Long Distance Route, designated as one of Scotland's Great Trails by Scottish National Heritage.

Hikers will enjoy the challenge of climbing Ben Lomond, on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, standing at 974m and on a clear day, is visible from Ben Nevis and why not spend an afternoon exploring the grounds and gardens of Balloch Castle and Country Park, surrounded by 200 acres and offering nature trails, guided walks, and picnic lawns, so you can enjoy lunch whilst overlooking the pretty Loch?

The city of Stirling is a short drive from the property, with its medieval castle set on a craggy volcanic rock, as well as the National Wallace Monument, a site commemorating William Wallace and proudly displaying his sword.

About the location

BUCHLYVIE

Aberfoyle 11 miles, Loch Lomond 11 miles, Stirling 14 miles.

The village grew originally in the 17th century due to its location on the old military road which is now the A 811 and developed further with the arrival of the railway between Stirling and Balloch, at the south end of Loch Lomond. A further connection was added to Aberfoyle to accommodate the increasing tourist numbers. The lines were all discontinued by the 1950s and the main route through the village is the main A811 between Stirling and Loch Lomond. The village today has an inn, a supermarket, post office and coffee shop/ pottery shop and an art gallery. Most of central Scotland can easily be accessed from the village with Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, Stirling and Glasgow all within easy reach.

Please Note - Due to the new Government legislation the price of this property has been reduced from 21st September to 7th November 2020 to accommodate smaller groups in line with the Rule of 6 regulations.
