“School House is a pleasant cottage and the hot tub saves it really, as for the price paid we did expect a greater level of finish.”

The bathroom is new, the kitchen has been poorly painted but was ok, aside from the fact that although this is a new rental property, the fridge doesn’t close properly and I had to use a spoon handle to work the washing machine buttons. There was no clothes airer however and so no where to dry clothes/towels. When we came it rained non-stop for 3 days, so drying our things was a bit of a problem. ...

The heating isn’t great, our first night it sounded like non stop water was leaking from somewhere everywhere time the heating came on, and the tops of the radiators don’t get warm. My husband had to top up the pressure in the boiler several times on order for this sound to stop, but if someone didn’t know how to do this then it would have meant that sound was constant. Hot tub was great, however there was an outdoor table next to the hot tub but no chairs to sit on which was strange. There were chairs in the greenhouse but the door was broken so it meant we couldn’t get in, it was hold on by one of the latches at the top but we couldn’t slide it open which was disappointing. Although it is an old property, we’ve stayed in old properties before which have been clean and well presented, this one however there is black mould and damp on most windows as in the mornings the windows are wet through with condensation. There’s a hole in wall in the hallway and just the general overall finish should be of a higher speck for the prices charged. There’s a local shop that closes at 5pm, a local cafe which is still opening however the pub is closed due to Corona. After 5pm, the nearest shop is a 20 minute drive so just make sure you have your supplies in! The cottage is also near a cycle path so great for running/walking/cycling. We were there when the school was on half term, but the cottage is directly opposite so I imagine school drop off/pick up times could get busy.

Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased you think that the School House is a pleasant cottage in a great location and enjoyed the hot tub. I would like to respond to your points. The central heating system is brand new, boiler and radiators with nest thermostat. The fridge freezer is brand new and requires to be closed gently so it does not spring back open. The washing machine looks to have been poked with a spoon which caused damage. This has now been replaced since your visit. The beautiful dome in the garden was in working condition, however I found the door off the hinges and lying on the ground after your visit so this will be fixed when possible. The character property does have single glazing and this can result in condensation. I'm sorry it rained in Scotland for three days and the pub was closed due to covid restrictions. There was a tumble dryer in the cupboard and there is a large drying area in the garden and I have since purchased a clothes airer. As per your problem with the new heating system, my contact number is left with guests and I am on hand to resolve any issues with the heating, as it can be remotely controlled by myself or repaired by my heating installer. This is a new property on Sykes and we are taking all feedback on board and improving all the time. Thank you, Owner of School House. - Sykes owner relations

About the location

Callander 7 miles.

The small village of Strathyre, Gaelic for 'broad winding valley', lies at the head of Loch Lubnaig, sheltered by Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Shian, just seven miles from the historic town of Callander. Strathyre has long been popular with visitors, starting as a resting place for cattle drovers and today offering a café, a local village shop, Post Office and a pub serving food. Beautiful, lush green forests cover the hills on each side of the valley, attracting walkers, cyclists and fell runners annually, with the Strathyre Stuc a Chroin 5000 hill race (a gruelling 5000 ft ascent) competing every May. A short drive will take you to Callander, with its 18-hole golf course rated to be among the top ten courses in Scotland, whilst a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants and the McLaren Leisure Centre are also available. Every July, Callander hosts the World Highland Games, and the town’s Rob Roy Tourist Information Centre and riverside walks through The Meadows are not to be missed! A lovely location for all the family!

Note: There are currently no photographs of the kitchen, as this is undergoing refurbishment and will be ready by the end of March 2020.
